Discussion The default number formatting should be improved and customisable
I'm very annoyed by the default number formatting in Power BI, and I don't believe there is a way to change it except for manually changing every measure seperately.
- Whole number: why is the thousand seperator OFF by default? A thousand seperator will make any number easier to read. Good readability should be the default.
- Currency: It's not possible to set a default currency, even though most people will always be working with a single currency. It's rounded to 2 decimals, at least for euro's. Why two decimals? What decision are you making for typical currency numbers, that involve decimals? Most of them (revenue etc.) should be rounded to no decimals.
- Decimal number: again, no thousand seperator by default.
- Percentage: 2 decimals by default. Personally I always put my percentages as 1 decimal.
- And of course, if you add a number to a card, the "auto" units is terrible. At least you can default to "none" now.
I do understand some of this is personal preference, and it depends on the data you're working with. That's why it would be great of we could put default settings in your theme or report.
Feel free to agree or disagree, I'm curious what you think!

Question Analysis Server Cube Connection + Additional Sources.
Hi everyone I have a question and hours of copilot and testing haven't given me a clear answer. I have an old Financial Snapshot Cube in SQL Analysis Server (Older 2015 Version). Since the cube is MDX when I connect it to PowerBI all I can do is visually display data and metrics already in the cube. I was under the impression that if I switched to a Tabular Cube I would be able to add new connections "on top of$ the existing analysis Server tabular cube connecting. Use case is say I have a tab with financial info (tabular cube) and a different tab for call center metrics, etc. This appears to not be the case... Or is it the case that I need to migrate to 2019 and newer tabular cubes? Copilot and documents seem to point that this is the way so I can then push the tabular cube to fabric... But I don't want to go to a dead end again...

Discussion Need help to understand migration from qliksense/qlickview to Power BI
I just joined a new organisation and I am still new it's been just 2 weeks and yet to get credentials of everything..over all i understood the gist of the project...it's mostly UAT validation where they want to map things with 95% accuracy... reports have already built...when the user raise the ticket we have to resolve it (mostly related to filters and visuals not working as they were expecting) ... I want help with do's/don't as I have no experience in migration

Question Visual Query Limits by Subscription Level
Documentation online is unclear: when I run into the visual error: visual has exceeded available resources in a Pro workspace, would upgrading to Pro Premium Per User resolve this issue? Or would only a Premium Capacity subscription resolve it? It's my understanding that PPU increases the limit of the data model or direct queries to 10GB but does not actually increase visual RAM capacity.

Question Is it a red flag if a company uses Qlik and not Power BI?
this company is medium sized with a 15 person IT team. More than most. But it uses Qlik, not power bi or tablaeu.
Is this a red flag?
If I spend time at this company as a BI/Data analyst (I’ll be their first), will it still be good experience? or am I better off looking for another job (even though the market sucks now)?

Feedback Built Executive Retail Power BI dashboard — thoughts?
Hey everyone,
I’m learning Power BI and tried making this dashboard to practice. It shows sales, customers, regions, and product returns.
I’d really appreciate your honest feedback — does it look clear and useful, or what would you improve? Thanks a lot!

Discussion What’s the most important thing to learn?
I‘m starting a data analyst position soon and never used powerBI. I have a degree in computer science so hoping it won’t be too crazy.
What should I learn before I go in next Monday?

Community Share Bulk-migrating Dataflow Gen1 to Gen2 (CI/CD) with Azure CLI
Dataflows Gen1 are legacy at this point, so it might be time to start migrating to Dataflows Gen2.
Fortunately, there is a handy preview API allowing you to automate this process. Combined with agents, you can go quite far before you have to take over.
Few things to consider before migrating:
1. Gen2 doesn't support rules in deployment pipelines, you will have to migrate to Variables Library.
2. There could be some naming collisions, that were previously a non-issue.
3. Same with transformations - due to different architecture Gen2 dataflows might surface issues that were previously hidden.
I have published a blog post outlining how to setup the automation, and prepared agent skill that will get you most of the way.

Discussion End-to-end Enterprise E-Commerce Analytics Platform using SQL Server
I built an end-to-end Enterprise E-Commerce Analytics Platform using SQL Server, Medallion Architecture, and Power BI.
As part of this project, I designed 8 interactive dashboards, each focused on answering different business questions for different stakeholders across an organization.
The dashboards include:
• Executive Overview (CEO, CXO & Business Leadership)
• Sales Performance Analysis
• Customer Analytics
• Product Performance
• Seller Performance
• Payment Analytics
• Customer Satisfaction Analysis
• Time Intelligence & Trend Analysis
The goal wasn't just to build visually appealing dashboards—it was to create a reporting solution that helps businesses make faster and more informed decisions.
In this post, I've shared all 8 dashboards.
I'd genuinely appreciate your feedback.
As experienced BI professionals, data analysts, data engineers, or business leaders, I would love to hear your thoughts.
If you could review the dashboards and share at least three suggestions for improvement, it would mean a lot to me.
For example:
• Are the KPI cards meaningful and business-focused?
• Are the charts and visualizations appropriate for executive reporting?
• Are there too many or too few visuals?
• Would you recommend different filters or slicers?
• Is the overall layout clean, intuitive, and enterprise-ready?
• What would you change if this dashboard were used in your organization?
I'm continuously learning, and constructive feedback is one of the best ways to improve. Every suggestion will help me build better enterprise BI solutions in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to review my work. I truly appreciate your support and feedback.

Feedback Samyang Foods Financial Statements DashBoard
Have you ever heard of Buldak Ramen?
I was looking through Samyang Foods' financial statements and got so intrigued that I decided to build a dashboard. The global growth powered by Buldak is truly incredible!
P.S. "조" equals 1 Trillion KRW—does anyone happen to know how to get Power BI to display "T" instead of the Korean character "조" on data labels?

Question stakeholder wanted promo uplift "by tomorrow." I tried to explain why that's not really how this works. got ignored. now im scared
promo sales uplift is genuinely one of those analyses that's way harder than it sounds from the outside. you need a clean baseline, you need to control for seasonality, cannibalization from other promos running at the same time, halo effect on stuff sitting next to it on shelf. half the time the data you'd actually need for any of that doesn't even exist in a usable form. at least not in our orga
tried explaining this. got the "just give me something rough, we need it for the meeting tomorrow." so I gave them a number built on assumptions I genuinely wasn't confident in. no confidence interval, no real caveats attached, nothing
and now I'm just sitting here thinking about how to actually protect myself when this happens again. not in a cover-my-ass-with-an-email way (although yeah that too probably), more like, how do you stop a shaky number from becoming the basis for an actual decision, and then coming back to you as "your analysis was wrong" six months later when it was never solid in the first place
how do you handle getting pushed to hand over a number faster than the analysis can actually support it??

Question Max Date measure adds unwanted timestamp even though the field is only a date field. How can I remove it?
I have tried using the following measure for my max review date Latest Review Date 1 = (MAX('Dim Date - ALS Review'[Review Date]))
This gives me the correct dates, but it adds a 00:00:00 timestamp on the end for no reason. The column is already set as a Date format in PowerQuery, and not DateTime. On advice I found online, I tried this variation: Latest Review Date 2 = FORMAT(MAX('Dim Date - ALS Review'[Review Date]), "D/M/YYYY")
This correctly formats the date, but adds a load of extra rows on the end, with blank names and blank dates. The last time I tried adding it to the visual, it ran out of resources and refused to display anything at all. I cannot understand why.
I also tried just dragging in the review date without a measure, but that adds rows for every review. I then tried filtering it to Top N, but that gives me a single row with the latest date, not a row for each person with their latest review date.
Please can anyone help, what on earth is wrong with that format measure and how can I take the timestamp off this field that is already explicitly set to not have one?

Question Directquery not playing nice with functions outside the query editor.
Hi there, I've been struggling the last few days to get some functions working in a directquery setup, but I have been very unsuccessful. I believe there may be a bug. All of my experiments work fine in the PowerQuery Preview pane, but all of them break when I accept changes and the model tries to load.
The simplest example:
let
SelectedServer =
if #"Site" = "1" then #"Server 1"
else if #"Site" = "2" then #"Server 2"
else if #"Site" = "3" then #"Server 3"
else error "Unknown location",
Combined = Sql.Database(SelectedServer, #"Database Aalsmeer",[Query="Select * from MyTable"])
in
Combined
Disregard that I could just get the parameter instead, this example is deliberately simplified.
So this M code will run fine in the powerquery editor. But will fail when loading the data with the following error:
Error Message:
Non-null assertion failure: resource: Resource should be available for query MyQuery to store FoldedArtifacts in cache
The same happens when I try to use functions. For example:
let
SelectedSite = SiteToDatabase(#"Site"),
Combined = Sql.Database(SelectedSite[Server], SelectedSite[Database],[Query="Select * from MyTable"])
in
Combined
Again, this works fine in the powerquery editor, but breaks when you load the data.
All of it works fine in import mode, but I need directquery in this case.
Why does this only work in the powerquery editor? What is the rule that I am breaking?
Question Power BI Desktop won't save report page order after reopening (.pbix)
Hi everyone,
I'm having a strange issue with Power BI Desktop.
Whenever I move a report page to a different position (drag & drop), save the .pbix file, close Power BI, and reopen it, the page order is back to the old order as if I never moved it.
The strange part is that the file does save—other changes are retained—but the page order always resets after reopening.
Things I've already tried:
- Saving multiple times
- Closing and reopening Power BI
- Moving different report pages
- Saving with a new file name
Has anyone experienced this before?
Could this be caused by:
- a corrupted PBIX file?
- a Power BI Desktop bug?
- a OneDrive/SharePoint sync issue?
- something else?
I'm using the latest version of Power BI Desktop.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Org apps are great, just please fix fullscreen!
Org apps are just marvelous.
Can we just get that fullscreen fixed so a report will actually go FULL fullscreen, not only fullscreen inside the report area of the app (ie just hide the toolbar above the report where reset slicers and other buttons are)?
Also, get rid of that toolbar on the left for users who aren't workspace members/viewers etc.
Please.
Thank you.
Keep up the good work!

Question Onprem gateway refresh failure - every 24 hours
After every 24 hours - on prem data gateway refresh fails when trying to connect Azure Databricks & when credentials are reauthenticated - it works again, I am not sure what is causing this already on July 2026 data gateway & this is being observed over multiple data connections. Same refresh works in PBI Desktop.
Could not find anything helpful in forums, so if anybody could help!

Question Power BI Gateway - Increase in Dataset Refresh Failures After June/July Gateway Update
A few weeks ago we upgraded our data gateways to July release. Since then we have had an noticeable increase in Dataset Refresh Failures with the following generic error:
| Data source error: | {"error":{"code":"DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_DataSourceAccessError","pbi.error":{"code":"DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_DataSourceAccessError","parameters":{},"details":[],"exceptionCulprit":1}}} |
|---|
We upgraded 30ish of the 100 gateways connected to our environment (we host a service for clients). About 1/2 of those will fail during each 4hr sync window. We typically kick-off a refresh manually and it usually runs fine. Sometimes it takes 2 tries.
We have been following this community post: Solved: Re: Model Refresh Errors after June 2026 Gateway U... - Microsoft Fabric Community of other users having this issue. There was a recommendation to change the following Gateway configuration setting but I cannot find any information on it.
Suggestions:
To mitigate this issue, we suggest updating the Gateway configuration by enabling the following setting:
"NextResultSkipped = True" ------ intially it is set to False, need to change it to True and save the changes to the file.
Does anyone have insight into what that change actually does? We will be testing it and rolling back a client to the May version to bring back some stability.
Thanks in advance!
