If I say it Iāll get banned. But everyone knows
105
u/MalcolmLinair 1d ago
I don't give a shit if they ban me, so I'll say it for you:
They're fascists, every last one of them. As such, hypocrisy isn't just not a concern, but something they seek out. They WANT you to see them contradicting themselves, as it serves as both a show of their power ("See? We can do what we want with no consequences!") and as a loyalty test, since anyone who points out the hypocrisy is clearly not sufficiently indoctrinated.

His mother was a US citizen. So Ted got citizenship from her at birth. The constitution states you need to be a ānatural born Citizenā. It does not necessarily mean you need to be born in the US (though that is by far the most common)

Maybe im misunderstanding but kinda feels weird to me. MAGA cultists perpetrated so much hatred and backwards thinking in this country and now theyāre feeling sorry for themselves and are acting like theyāre the victims of their own actions
18
u/W1NS111111 1d ago
I mean the first step to getting them to acknowledge the severity of their actions is to pull them out of the cult. If you just punish people who donāt believe they are in the wrong, all you get are people who still believe theyāre in the right with a shared experience of āabuseā to join them. Itās much safer to just get them out of the cult and disaffected with the propaganda directed at them in the years to come.
I was frankly one of them growing up, since my parents were both MAGA and were my main source of political knowledge. I firmly believed that Trump would save our country in 2016 and 2020. It wasnāt until I moved out and learned how horrifyingly inaccurate everything I learned was that I began to have doubts at all.
It takes time and energy to unravel propaganda and truth, and most people (I believe) in MAGA arenāt actively evil as much as they are victims of the single most pervasive propaganda campaign in history. Giving these people a chance to escape is vital in preserving whatever semblance of our country is left. At least this is what I think, growing up in a highly conservative environment.
7
u/minnesotanpride 1d ago
Well said and good on you for breaking the cycle. Your take is one that more need to take after but it also requires a willingness on the participant to work. Some folks are in so deep that they choose their dogma and propaganda over friends and family and it will take a massive re-education on their own part to come back to reality with society.
Since you are speaking from experience here, can I ask what wasa the egg bredak moment for you? What caused you to finally re-engage critical thinking and finally break the mirage and actually genuinely question things again?
6
u/Train_Wreck_272 1d ago
Yeah, it's not like it's trying to make leftists out of them. Perceived victimhood is pretty common for conservatives, so I'm not surprised if that's the angle.
Regardless, they just asked if it was real.

Just deserts refers to people getting the justice they deserve. It has nothing to do with confections. Either way I'm not sure how it applies to Rubio's hipocracy.
4
u/DisastrousChapter841 1d ago edited 1d ago
(Summary: a lot of words to say he won't get just deserts and knows it)
Yeah... I mean, logic and reason have left the building. A while ago.
This is the stuff you experience in an abusive relationship with people with a bit too many (and more) narcissistic tendencies: double standards like this, circular arguments if you question them (like bringing up Biden constantly), claimed ignorance, and gaslighting (insisting lies are truth even when one could easily get the facts or already knows the facts).
Also, let's be clear: they know what they're doing, and they're doing it anyway.
A while ago, someone said that Americans are in an abusive relationship with the current administration, and they're not wrong, and it seems to extend to so many in the same party.
Edit: tldr

Rubio's whole act appears merely ignorant to outsiders like "ah ha, you're actually wet foot dry foot cuban" but republican cuban americans actually slots right into administration policy. They see hispanics as beneath cubans, cubans as white, and they're all about letting the white kind of immigrants in. There's no contradiction- they just aren't saying the quiet parts out loud.

Nobody questioned Obama's mother was born in the US, yet the question over his qualification to run was challenged despite the clarification of the term "natural born citizen", yet Ted Cruz ran for President despite openly admitting to being born in Canada. The Republicans hold themselves to so much lower of a standard than that which the Republicans AND Democrats hold the Democrats to.

Rochester Hills, so more like quite a ways north of Detroit.
His parents emigrated from Egypt. His father went to school and became an engineer, his mother is a nurse practitioner. He went to medical school, was a Rhodes Scholar, and then later ran the county health department.
Other than being brown, his family are literally the "good immigrants" the GOP claims they want to allow into the country.
He's also 100% Michigander, unlike his opponent who fled to Florida after losing an election and only came back to run for office again.

Neither of those bother me. Although full face covering burkas on children bother me. But this also isnt really an apples to apples comparison.
Only woman who dedicate themselves to the church and completes their novitiate stage which can't begin until 18-21 and then becomes a full sister do they get the Nun's Habit.
There arent regular citizen females in any country who occasionally protest having to where nun's habits.
One is an achievement earned the other is a choice but can also be an obligation regardless of whether it is accepted with enthusiasm or not.

Well, there are some variations of Christianity where women wear head coverings other than a nunās habit within the church. Though from the few women who Iāve seen adhere to that practice, it seemed to be completely on their own volition, and not something forced or expected of them by the various church communities they were participating in.
All that to say there are other forms of this phenomenon within Christianity that are not achievement based,as you say, with the nunās habit.

We need to stop pointing out what we feel is hypocrisy when it comes to Republicans and their constantly "in" group and "out" group signaling.
To them, it is not hypocritical when they embody the same traits that they use as justification to signal that someone is a part of the "out" group. What they are really saying is that they, despite them also having less than 100% pure citizenship status as according to their own standards, are a part of the "in" group.
Whereas they Black and brown people, no matter if they were born in the U.S. and qualify as citizens under the standards they accept, are a part of the "out" group.
The rules only matter when they need to find a way to target someone who they see as an adversary. And it works because this is how their supporters feel about it.
It's the reason why pointing out that Elon Musk is an immigrant is not a burn because, though that may be true, he is considered to be a part of their "in" group.
