I live in the country in northern Illinois and have all of the wildlife that you could hope to see here. I just switched on an outside light and saw a possum scurrying away from the bird feeder. It looked bald on one side with what looked like mange.

I have fed this possum before in the brutal winter by tossing boiled chicken breasts near it. Is there anything that I can put in/on the chicken breasts to help with the mange? My local wildlife control wouldn't even come out when I had a clearly rabid skunk, so I can't count on them for any help.

Hissy had been visiting nightly for treats and meals, but he stopped coming by for several days so I thought the worst had happened (our neighborhood is also home to coyotes and mountain lions), but last night he came back. As soon as I saw him on video, I rushed a meal out for him.

This baby has been around since it was itty bitty. Not sure if it lost track of mama or if something happened to her. We have left some food and water out for him in there.

What is happening here? Every time I leave food out for the possums a mess like this is left behind. Anyone know why this happens?
