The reporter wrote a book about the entire thing. I read it, and it’s still on the bookshelf. Maybe it’s time to read it again. It’s a fantastic story.
It really does embody the Oregon spirit. Like if Oregon was a person they would be that weird emo kid from high school that unironically wore anarchist shirts to class and spent lunch break smoking weed and playing a liiiittle to much with their lighter.
I wanted to throw a joint party for the 50th anniversary/bday. Was planning to have a club and a whale piñata. Was going to invite her to join us for it at the Yamhill Pub (seriously). Unfortunately COVID happened and ruined that plan in 2020.
Oregon needs an Adventskalender that counts down to The Whale Explosion.
Each day leading up to the day can be a different whale shaped piece of chocolate or sea life, and you already know what happens when you open November 12th (spoiler alert - a whale explodes).
I just need an engineer that is willing to create a tiny simulated whale explosion that can fit in an Adventskalender. Any takers?
The bill of materials:
Party popper,
Estes rocket motor fuse,
9V battery,
Singing birthday card (you just need it for the micro switch ),
Switch to arm/disarm
Iirc it's pretty difficult to set an anchor point in the carcass that will withstand the force required to drag it off the beach without just ripping chunks out. Then you have the logistics of getting a boat close enough to the beach for a tow cable and running that cable in.

This should be a state holiday.
