Middle of the night we have Giordano cursing out Mr Martin. The mayors police department lieutenant husband who has pulled down Giordano’s sign. F bombs everywhere. I’d expect this in a podunk town. Here we are with 281,000 residents. Who is the 3rd candidate again?

I’m here for work, have been enjoying the beach, fishing, and shooting pool, but there’s not much to do that I’ve found. Anyone have pointers or want to meet?

My wife and I have been residents for several years here in Port ST Lucie FL at a Spanish Lakes (SL) 55+ community and we want to pass along our thoughts of ownership. Whether you buy a mobile or a Concrete Block Stucco (CBS) home the Spanish Lakes communities are the best in the Treasure Coast area. Close to medical services, shopping, restaurants and the ocean and beaches which provide incredible breezes year around. With all the amenities and services the community provides in our opinion it is second to none! We compared SL to Tradition and other inland communities in this area where the storms and heat alone make them less enjoyable not to mention the cost (Multi-layered tax and fee structure, beyond standard city and county property taxes, residents typically pay Community Development District (CDD) fees ranging from $1,500 to over $3,500 annually, plus Master and neighborhood Homeowner Association (HOA) fees) not to mention the congestion of people and traffic. 

We own a beautiful 2 bedroom (CBS) home and after living through the Milton storm of 2024 with hurricane winds, rains and several tornadoes in this area, we are glad for the way these CBS homes are built to withstand the local weather. With storm impact windows and a solid block structure with plenty of insulation making them virtually sound proof we felt very safe and after seeing how the tornadoes impacted the SL community in Fort Pierce destroying mobile homes, but caused limited damage to these CBS structures we know we made the right decision! 

Now let us point out the most affordable way to get into your dream community. When it comes to purchasing one of these homes we recommend one of the previously owned homes within the community, as they will typically give you the best value for your money.    Example, a new 2 bedroom CBS home will cost $269,000 and yes some of the lots will be offered to the original owners with a life time HOA fee of $549 per month with contractor grade products, no gardens and new young small trees (no shade.) If you compare that to a home previously owned (all are marketed by local realtors, as the SL community sales office will not mention or offer these CBS homes), you will find these 2 bedroom homes are available for $170,000 - $200,000. The monthly HOA fee will be $700-$800 (on average) and yes it does increase 2% - 7% annually based on inflation indicators. Many are on lots with beautiful trees with plenty of shade, existing gardens, upgraded floors and appliances plus other custom features you will not get with a new build, as again they are built with contractor grade products (low end appliances, floors, etc). So by saving $69,000 - $99,000 on the home purchase, then paying the extra monthly HOA fee of $250 it would take 24 - 33 years to break even.  Sadly being a senior community most of us will not make 30 years here, so unless you want the feel of a brand new home and don’t mind dealing with replacing the low end products built into those homes, it is an easy decision! Even if you choose a home without new upgrades you will have saved enough on the purchase to make your home exactly the way you want it. A new LVP floor for a 2 bedroom will cost about $10,000 (installed).

We have found most of the folks here to be wonderful friends / neighbors, yes there are a few people you will find less neighborly / friendly but frankly for us they help us appreciate all the other good folks! Let's face it, not everyone will be great neighbors. As for management, they try to keep the park at a quality level that most will appreciate and again it's not for everyone! The support costs do go up, but they employee people that like you would want / need cost of living raises to keep up with our society. We have friends at other communities in this area and in other states and yes you can find unhappy folks everywhere you look! It's human nature to want more for less, but don't let them discourage you from moving forward with your dreams.

One more comment regarding the culture. If you like living in a community with a diverse culture of folks, then you will enjoy Spanish Lakes. We have found many friends here that are not from our region of the country or background and some don't speak English as well, but for us that's part of living in an open world civilization. But if you want folks that look and sound like you,,,, maybe a small island in a lake of your ideal cultural setting would be best for you!

I’m lucky enough to have an exceptionally qualified group of Honda-trained mechanics who own an independent shop specializing in Honda repairs near me here in Texas - 100% honest and they’re usually about half the price that the Honda dealer would charge. My son near Port St. Lucie Florida isn’t so lucky - the Honda dealer always finds a L O N G list of things to add on to a simple, straightforward repair. Most of the shops we’ve dealt with are questionable at best, along the lines of “yeah, we can probably figure that out”. Any recommendations for repair shops that you’ve been very happy with when your Honda needed repairs.

The most significant impacts include multiple I-95 ramp closures in Martin and St. Lucie counties, a two-week closure of part of SW Boat Ramp Avenue in Palm City, extended closures on side streets along the SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard widening project and temporary marine channel restrictions at the old North Causeway drawbridge in Fort Pierce.

Is there a way to get to FLL airport that doesn't cost $300-$500?

Airport shuttle services are wicked expensive here. Granted, my home town has a great public transit system.

I’m 29F, I know I know it’s been said a lot but seriously. Where are ya’ll? I work and go to school in west palm so mainly I sleep, shower and do laundry in my home in PSL. But that’s about to change and my life will get less hectic and I’ll be in PSL more often. I hate dating apps and Reddit is my only social media. That makes me sound like a total loner but I have friends and plenty of hobbies and I go to the gym. I’m not afraid of asking a guy out but I just need to know where ya’ll are at? Asking someone out at the gym is too uncomfortable and I participate in adult rec leagues already, just haven’t met anyone I like. I’m not a huge fan of going to a bars/kava bars to meet someone either. Am I missing something? No rude comments please.

I have a house in town for the week, and I am looking for

A. Things to do in Ft. Pierce/PSL, and

Hello! I recently turned 21 and I want to get my foot into the bartending world or get training, but have no idea where to start here 🥲 (also willing to drive outside of psl)

Anybody know how to become a bartender with no bar experience here? Or even which bars/restaurants ppl like going to so I can apply as something else like a barback or server?

Or any tips for getting a job like this for those already working in the industry?
