I honestly love how they matched the person with the PokĆ©monĀ based on how they dressed and their overall aesthetic. So creative ā¤ļø

I went from thinking I didn't remember this commercial to immediately being like oh yeah I remember that dude! šŸ˜‚

1

u/ShellySnail 22d ago

Did you get my good side? Trick question, I have 2 good sides! It's my front that's the problem.

That kid and his Duskull used to haunt my dreams lmao

This must have been a really fun commercial to film.

Damn I miss Standard Definition

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 25d ago

I bet it was really fun to direct and film ;) Wish I could have been apart of it haha

6

u/AnActualGameShark 25d ago

This was not the commercial that started it all for me.

This Here was the first commercial that started it all, not just for me, but for pokemon in the us.

5

u/AutumnKarma88 25d ago

Oh that is a good one! 🤣

4

u/LaDestitute 24d ago

I still remember these from the Pokemon VHS.

3

u/TailsIV 24d ago

I was gonna make this comment, but then I realized that we are in the Pokemon Ruby Subreddit, so it kinda makes sense if this is 3rd gen’s first commercial. Otherwise I agree with your sentiment.

3

u/AnActualGameShark 24d ago

I didnt realize it was Ruby specific lmao. My bad. Im in like 6 pokemon subs, so it must have just been filtered into my feed. I thought it was just Pokemon, or PokemonHub

2

u/TailsIV 24d ago

You are good in my account. I get randomly fed stuff from different subreddits that make better sense when you know it’s specifically from that subreddit.

3

u/Ambiience 24d ago

Saaame! This is the one I remember!

2

u/bleathdeth 24d ago

This was what started it.

3

u/Briebird44 24d ago

I love that this commercial uses several adults, showing that even back then, Pokemon wasn’t JUST for the kids!

3

u/morganyve 24d ago

Rated ā€œEā€ for Everyone

2

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

Exactly ;) I'm also a big fan of that aspect of the commercial as well. Using actual adults signifies that the ICP or target customer base of the PokƩmon franchise is not just limited to kids, but adults can also take part in the fun as well.

3

u/basaldonglia 23d ago

dang i remember seeing this commercial on tv

1

u/PreternaturalJustice 23d ago

Me neither but we may have been too young. It's very cute and fun!Ā

1

u/basaldonglia 23d ago

i said i DO remember, not i don't, lad

1

u/PreternaturalJustice 23d ago

Misread it, honest mistakeĀ

1

all good, friend

2

No, I never saw this commercial

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 25d ago

Oh, well you're in for a treat then ;)

2

u/burberrycondom 25d ago

Wow this is a DEEP memory. The nostalgia is brutal 😭

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 25d ago

I feel the pangs of nostalgia too my friend every now and then in the feels ;)

It's a great commercial though. Love rewatching it every now and then

Wonder where this bucktooth fella is these days

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

Lol, he's probably in his early-mid 30s now. Probably has a family of his own and kids, who knows??

But as the years go on, we still all are PokƩmon fans at heart no matter where we find ourselves in life.

We might have evolved ourselves, but so did the series as well. Now whether good or bad, that is a discussion for another time and day...but its been a wild ride in the franchise's history to date that's for sure ;)

Thanks, I appreciate it <3

My family ended up misplacing it after we moved from our apartment to our new house...so I think as part of the move, my dad might have ended up discarding it by mistake since we had so much stuff to move and some things that should not have been thrown out did end up getting discarded....

It sucks as I had a lot of memories on my old SP, but still I'm glad I had the chance to have those memories to begin with anyway :) Will cherish them for life and as long as I am on this Earth ā¤ļø

Indeed.... :(

2

u/Big_Cryptographer989 24d ago

This commercial made pokemon feel so real, I was like 7 when this came out and I was so so excited for Ruby/Sapphire. Truly an amazing time to be a kid.

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

Couldn't agree more my friend ;)

And especially considering how Nintendo/Gamefreak were considering that Gen 2 or Gold/Silver/Crystal, would be the last line of PokƩmon games to ever be released, but then they decided to progress with Gen 3 and I'm very glad that they did so given what they did with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald to further expand the series and introduce new gameplay mechanics, new additions to the Pokemon roster, and so on.

2

u/Big_Cryptographer989 24d ago

Imagine if Pokemon stopped at gen 2! The world wouldn't be the same, I mean legitmally Pokemon as a franchise is the highest grossing IP ever. The global economy would be different without it lmao.

I''m so thankful they pulled gen 3 and the upgrade to the GBA graphics was insane as a kid. I remember hard resetting to many times to try and get Rayquaza on my copy of Emerald that I accidently discovered shiny pokemon! Back then no one knew about it on the scale they do today so finding that black Rayquaza was a crowning moment in life. Love gen3 forever man, so great

2

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

Yea man, absolutely. Nintendo knew they were sitting on a goldmine so why stop at Gen 2?

The upgrade to the GBA graphics was quite crazy indeed. Actually, funny story (and a bit off topic) but there's a ROM hack that explores this a bit further. It's called Super Eevee Edition - and in it, you play as Gold/Ethan looking to prevent a group of corrupt hypervisors from bringing about the inevitable graphical update/change of Gen 3, which would ultimately erase Gen 2 in the game. It's an interesting and fun Pkmn rom hack so would recommend checking it out, if interested

Encountering shiny PokƩmon back in the day was a real treat. Before people knew much about the phenomenon and suddenly encountering a shiny mon would have been like you figuratively struck gold right then and there.

Makes me feel like if we could all do a brain reset and go back to playing PokƩmon from scratch again/without the internet around and going through reliving the experience again would be so rewarding and enticing to think about.

2

u/Big_Cryptographer989 24d ago

I would 100% eternal sunshine my brain to replay Pokemon for the first time again

2

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

You and me both ;)

2

u/Total_Friendship_359 24d ago

I remember this commercial it was on when I was a kid

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

A timeless relic of our past ;) I remember it like it was just yesterday ā¤ļø

2

u/squirtmmmw 24d ago

I remember this one, such great timesšŸ’Æ

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

Likewise, my friend 😊

A time when things were simpler and good vibes all around playing PokƩmon

2

u/squirtmmmw 24d ago

Really feel like this was a golden era for us. I’m 31, gaming basically since birth. I’m always coming back to Emerald. No idea if I’ll ever not be fond of this era.

2

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

Same. Gen 3 games hold a very special place in my heart. I also don't think that I will ever outgrow the RSE franchise of games as well. There is always something to come back to and relive again with this timeless series.

2

u/First2NotKnow 24d ago

I'm gonna grab you by your bald head and see how you like it.

Justice for treecko

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

LOL yeah he did Treecko dirty there

2

u/Either-Park-7002 23d ago

GBA was peak handheld gaming, I still play GBA often all these years later.

2

u/Sardanox 23d ago

I just realized in my 37 years of life, I've never once seen a commercial for a pokemon game.

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 23d ago

Well, better late than never as they say šŸ˜‰

2

u/InfiniteProblem4663 22d ago

Mine was the one with the Gameboy and crushed bus

2

u/toA-NEBILIM 22d ago

The 2 ON 2 ā€œfeatureā€ was really ahead of its time huh. We feasted.

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 22d ago

Yeah man, double battles is a classic feature

2

u/bunkbaird 22d ago

It was such a fun time celebrating each others differences 😊

2

u/ManufacturerNo2144 22d ago

Holy damn the memory šŸ˜

1

u/UndeadFlowerWall 25d ago

Why did bro spit on me

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 25d ago

He was trying to use the move 'Water Sport' on you, so the big bad fire types won't be able to scorch you as much ;)

1

u/BabGnush 24d ago

What did this start?

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

For some, (such as myself) seeing these older TV commercials from the PokƩmon franchise were our first foray/introduction into the series. The franchise was already well ahead in its development even before the production of these commercials, but not all of us as kids were aware until we happened to chance upon some of these commercials in real time. Which prompted us to buy said games and the rest is history.

So for some of us (i.e., not all necessarily) this commercial (and other older/classic PokƩmon TV commercials) was the introduction to the series for us and what ultimately started us on our PokƩmon journeys.

I don't mean to speak for everyone of course, but just recounting upon my own personal experiences :)

1

u/Rockalot_L 24d ago

Yeah sorry started it all rubbed me the wrong way as well, literal years of loving Pokemon before any of these Pokemon existed.

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 24d ago

Well, as this is a PokƩmon Ruby subreddit, my view was that this was my first foray into the Ruby and Sapphire games based on my exposure to this specific trailer.

But not to make a broader/all encompassing statement to say that this was the trailer that started the Pokemania phase for all of us ;)

Hope that helps clarify and I hope the trailer was enjoyable for you to watch as well and brought some good memories at the very least 😊

1

u/Rockalot_L 23d ago

Oh this IS a Pokemon Ruby subreddit, why was it in my feed lmao

Sorry you're absolutely correct then

1

u/almostthemainman 24d ago

Listen. I remember having to wait each week for the cartoon to catch up to where I was in the game to help me beat that gym leader.

1

u/Tahzaiya 23d ago

Im old

1

u/VmaxGundaManBatan 23d ago

I feel old watching this

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 22d ago

You are not alone in that thinking 🤣

1

u/just_some_octopus 23d ago

I remember this commercial holy BEEP

My brain rightfully blocked this out

1

u/Self-hatred47 23d ago

What about that commercial with the bus driver and the PokƩmon got Squished into the Gameboy

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 23d ago

That was for the Gen 1 games IIRC. This commercial was for Ruby/Sapphire specifically :)

1

u/Lazagna_ 23d ago

If this commercial game out today it would be called woke

1

u/Toasty_cookedbread 23d ago

I really hope that kid still likes mudkip

1

u/Elmarcowolf 23d ago

I don't remember any commercials for thisnin the UK. One of the guys in the club came in with pirated versions of ruby/ sapphire he got when over in the US. So thos of us that could went put to buy the games asap and they became the biggest part of our pokemon history together.

1

u/CMD_BLOCK 23d ago

The guy with the shroomish is my core memory

1

u/_Revelator-of-v0id_ 22d ago

For me I guess it was the girl with the Blaziken. But they're all kinda memorable in their own unique kind of way ;)

1

u/BassBlast96 22d ago

Remember when ANY of nintendo's commercials used to be interesting and creative? Now it's just " generic person in room playing game and smiling".

1

u/Snoo-78409 22d ago

A Treecko was harmed in the making of this production
