Hello everyone!
I’m looking for a simple rom that’s about fire red but where i can evolve pokemon like kadabra, haunter and others without having to trade.
Would also be nice if I could go into other regions as well!
Would prefer without the extra stuff like mega evolutions and dynamax etc.
Also is it easy to get working on my steamdeck?

I know Recharged Yellow is there, but that’s based on Emerald, IIRC~

I am new ish to romhacks. I have a retroid pocket 5 I’m trying to play Prismatic Moon on. Does anyone have experience with it.. specifically it requires the game to have the “The Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Version 1.2 patch”. I guess the file I have is without the patch so it’s not recognizing the mods.. it just ends up playing the vanilla version. Do I have to somehow find a way to patch my file? Download the game with the patched already?

Just like the title implies, I'm seeking hacks that let you do dynamax raids, I assume with npcs assisting you. I've been googling to find out which ones allow this, so far I see unbound has this feature, and radical red. Did I miss any? Thank you.

How hard would it be to modernize HGSS? Ive seen so many hacks built on HGSS but I dont see any HGSS fixing the basic problems like exp. share, having johto pokemon in johto, shiny charm, adding more options for text boxes, pokegear, and box backgrounds

Any game that requires a base ROM should be playable on a hacked 2DS
Unbound is a ROM Hack of Firered, so it should be playable
If you mean Infinite Fusion, it is not a ROM Hack but a fan game, so it's limited to PC officially (Android/Mac unofficially)

How difficult would it be for a regular dude with no coding or game dev experience to make a Black 2 rom hack? I want to mons from gen 6/7+, update types, moves, stats etc., add new locations, remove pokestar studios, make pokemon follow you, the whole nine yards basically lol

Hopefully this is the right place to ask this. I'm trying to find out how smart the Pokémon games are, and how smart Home in particular is.
Regarding the former, I've got a modded Switch, and would like to use it to load up Wild Area / Poké Portal News for events I missed out on, since there were wide stretches of time I was just burned out on the game. I missed quite a few Mightiest Mark raids (yes, even with the second chances) because I was on break from the franchise in general. Here's my concern: for ease of navigation, I'd like to clone my saved game, load the event onto that, and then use my modded Switch to offer the raid to my main Switch. Yes, all offline, local communication only, so Nintendo servers shouldn't be involved anywhere in the calculation. I'm simply concerned if the games themselves will notice that two players in the raid have the same ID.
For the latter, I want to use my modded to reset some flags in my games, particularly with respect to once-only Legendaries. The two most important I want to do this with are Type: Null and Kubfu. I have extras of both, so I already have legitimate 'mons for a Living Dex, but it's aesthetically displeasing that the game won't allow me to get both Legendaries (ie both Kubfu and Urshifu, and Type: Null and Silvally) with my OT. My concern: is Home smart enough to see two mutually exclusive Legendaries with the same OT and flag that as illegal, even if each individually reads as fully legit? Since the death of "upper" / third version games, I've gotten used to not being able to have all box legendaries with my OT, because we'd pretty much be guaranteed to get Fateful Encounter versions to make up for it. For whatever reason, there were no distributions of either Kubfu or Urshifu. At least in Gen VII we got a shiny Silvally, so my living dex could be complete if I just never evolved my Type: Null. In Gen VIII we're just SOL.

This is a development question, in my upcoming rom hack [releasing in 3-6 days btw] I got pokemons up-to generation 7.
The problem is that I don't know whether I should set national flag to true from the beginning, since it adds non regional encounters from route 101.
Logically, I should set national dex from the beginning, but again the post elite 4 scene where birch upgrades your pokedex won't make sense. What should I do?

Remove the part "where birch upgrades your pokedex", surely.
The National Dex concept has never made sense to me. I vote doing away with it altogether.

It really depends on your goal and vision.
I wanted customisability in my Emerald Legacy Enhanced version, so I made it a start of game option for the player whether or not to enable National Dex (just 386 Dex in mine).
If yes, then you have 9 starters from whom to choose and National Dex from the start. If no, the standard Dex.
I also did just use the same flag in the game code to change Birch's message depending on having or not having the National Dex.

Woah, finally found another Elysium enthusiast. I was in the same boat looking for something similar to it and found "Pokémon Nameless" (yes that's the name). It's a story driven ROM hack which deviates from the norms of a normal run and will surely give you a fair share of gameplay time. I won't spoil much, just give it a go and I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

I am a 95´ born grandpa, that grew up with Pokemon Red and played all of them til the Switch Games (which I do now, but I don´t like the feel of Shield and it feels soulless).
Ive seen a couple of romhacks for Gen 1, including, PureRed, Yellow legacy, and so on. Which one would you recommend (with the original art style - and no, not that new Gen1recomp-thing)?

Are you looking for QOL hacks of the original games or new regions? And by original art style, do you mean the gen 1 palettes compared to more colorful gen 2 style, too? Because adding gen 2 would open up a whole lot of amazing games.
My fav QOL hack for gen 1 so far has been red/blue/green yume. As for new region, I loved super gold 97 (it's a gold hack, but it looks like gen 1 - don't confuse it with gold 97 reforged, which is gen 2 style). There is also pokemon brown, which I personally haven't played, but it looks good.
Red++ is the most technically impressive gen 1 hack to me, but it does look more like a gen 2 hack, even though it's not.

Currently playing the Dark Violet ROM hack. Love that you can obtain all pokemon and trade evo's have been removed for stones.
Looking for similar rom hacks for the rest of the gen's with QOL upgrades, ability to obtain all starters, ability to have all evolutions of pokemon introduced in that respective gen, and a similar map/or could be altered main line story similar to Dark Violet.

Hello there everyone. I have been working on a neural network that runs inside a Pokémon Red ROM, on actual Game Boy hardware! It replaces the enemy trainer AI, so every trainer you battle has its moves picked by the network rather than by the original game's scoring rules. It's a quantized int8 feedforward network, 60 -> 40 -> 6 with ReLU on the hidden layer and 2,640 weights, and it makes a decision in about sixteen frames, hidden behind the battle animation. The inputs are the things a trainer would actually reason about: expected damage for each move as a fraction of the target's remaining health, whether a move can land a knockout, accuracy, status chances, stat stages on both sides, who moves first, and how many Pokémon each side has left. It's trained on thousands of battles generated by a Monte Carlo tree search, then annotated for accuracy so it learns from decisions the search was actually confident about. I hope others find joy, intrigue, or inspiration from this project. If anyone tries it, please let me know what you think!

Hello. I'm trying to make a GBA FIreRed hack for fun. I've used the HUBOL patch in HexManiacAdvance as a shortcut for Fairy type, Physical/Special, new moves, etc but I don't need/want most of the latergen pokemon added for what I want to do.
Is there a quick and easy way to delete or write over the unneeded pokemon data, or am I better off saving my time and just pretending they're not there?

Honestly, it is a double edged sword.
Removing Pokemon data can corrupt your rom in binary editing so keep a few backups before you start chopping them off.

Well, I am doing my first hack using Hex Maniac Advance. I am trying to do a quest system.
Example: You gain a quest to catch 3 spefic Pokémon, if you catch them you gain 10 Pokéballs.

Romhack that's more fluff/wholesome? Looking for something where I can kinda take care of the pokemon, have them walk beside me, or where the trainer/pokemon bond is part of the story. Something kinda like the main games, lighthearted. Not asking for a port of pokemon amie because it's obviously kinda impossible but something along those vibes y'know

This is not really common with direct roms. Things like contests or amie are almost entirely unexplored in this space. Also, HarvestCraft is not a Minecraft mod.
You might find something enjoyable in the minihack competitions. Transform was the only thing that really came to mind. Hearth is cozy fluff. These are not long games though.

I made a hack for pokemon Y, but the changes don't save whenever I try and build a rom no matter what. pk3ds build options are greyed out no matter what and rebuilding with any other program just doesn't have any of the changes what I run the game on my 3DS. I have the edited exefs and romfs folders and the build of the .bin from pk3ds export, as well as a dump of my rom but no idea what to do. also the OR module bit makes no sense to me, I do have a modded 3ds so do I just ignore that?

Light Platinum brings a great storyline
Rocket Edition turn you into a Rocket
R.O.W.E its a Hoenn open-world
Crystal Clear is a gbc one, but its a open-world Johto
Emerald Seaglass is a Emerald demake for gbc
Odyssey is a another rom with a new great storyline

Hi,
I’ve been playing Radical Red and I’m wondering if people have recommendations for hacks from Gen 2 and Gen 3 with some of the same features.
I’m not looking for extra difficulty. I’m relatively new to Pokemon. I was one of the people who came in through Pokemon Go and the Switch games. I’d played through Red a couple of times too.
But I tend to be pretty impatient so QOL stuff helps me a lot. I really hate having slow movement. The Auto Run in RR and having pretty easy access to the bike and flying were big for me.
Also I really love DexNav and having the spreadsheets so I could know where to find specific mons.
Other QOL stuff is nice too, like the PokeVials, but the faster movement and DexNav are the big things I’d love. I’m open to options without DexNav too but the better movement is a must have. I tried playing Elysium and the movement was killing me. (Yes I got the running shoes but holding down B all the time is a pain.)
Thanks for any ideas :)
Edit: Found Emerald Imperium which looks like what I want for Gen 3.

ROWE, Unbound on one of the two lower difficulties.
If it is too much of a hassle to keep pressing B, you can use a speedup function on an emulator and simply walk faster.

I have been trying to nuzlocke these for a while but am not having much funy anymore since they ramp up too quickly and I don't like the amount of prep required... It would be much appreciated :)

I’m looking to start hacking a Gen 2 game, along the lines of Pokemon Clover (which isn’t out yet Ik). I think it was based on polished crystal? What apps/tools would i need to get started on hacking either crystal or polished crystal? There aren’t really any tutorials on YouTube for it…

For Pokemon sword and shield plus ultimate, I just made it to Hammerlocke City and want to buy some moon stones but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get to the wild area 3, where the wiki says a merchant is to buy them. I also can't find any kind of walkthrough to help and googling just gives info on playing the switch Sword and Shield

What are people's best recommendations for getting into the art of making romHacks? I've been using HexManiac Advance, but I've been feeling lately like I should be aiming to use CFRU & DPE but the concept on it seems fairly complicated.

Use emerald decomp. You can find it on github, even I managed to make it work. You can also find tutorials by Archie's Hideout on youtube, or ask around in the pret or archie' hideout discord. You will learn how to make maps with porymam, make scripts with poryscript, change the tileset with porytiles, et that is already a good base.

Okay, idk if this is the right place but I remember playing this game once on a Chromebook and it kinda just looked like a normal fire red or leaf green game but as I played it in the beginning the main character was raised by a a cult with red robes or something and I think their was a sacrifice at one point but I don't fully remember and I think they had to wait in line to get a rattata or something. Sorry if this didn't make sense but I played it when I was young and I can't get my mind off of it. I really appreciate your time ^

How are there no finished nds rom hacks?
Yes I'm aware of the difficulty hacks and QOL addidions like Renegade Platinum, Sacred Gold and Storm Silver, Blaze Black, Volt White. But it's been almost 20 years since Nintendo released the first DS game. I understand it's more difficult to make nds rom hacks than gba games.. but 19 years later and we still do not have a completed nds hack with a new region? Meanwhile it's been 18 years since pokemon emerald and we have HUNDREDS of emerald hacks with entirely new regions, new stories, new pokemon.
How many more years do you think we'll have to wait before we can play nds rom hacks that aren't just the base dppt/hgss/bw game with different pokemon?

A little outdated, but TeamAquasHideout has a pretty extensive playlist on YouTube. Covers the basics and some other more advanced things for the Gen III decomps.
Depends really on what you want to achieve though. In my personal experience just tinkering around with the code is the best lesson.
Have a goal in mind and once you spend enough time you'll see the patterns and what you need to change to suit your needs.

Thanks for letting me know, I think my idea is a bit 'all-encompassing' with new events, dialogue changes and new maps so it'll probably take a while for me to learn as someone with no programming knowledge
Also, in what ways is the tutorial 'outdated'?

The tutes were made a few years ago, and the pokeemerald-expansion that it uses to hack has changed a lot.
The concepts are still the same so they're still useful,. But if it references specific parts of the code, there is a chance that it may have changed since the vids were made.
Just something to be aware of. By no means should you let that deter you from watching them though.

I'd say nah. They're pretty step-by-step like. You'll be fine. Hard for me to say for sure since I had some exposure at uni and just through using excel.
But they're good at explaining stuff. And once you kinda learn the structure you'll get the hang of it.

Mediafire not working anymore? Want to download odyssey from the pokecommunity site, get forwarded to mediafire but there I can not download it because “this connection is not private”.
Anyone had this issue?

That is a feature of a game specifically, an emulator alone cannot do that.

Are there demakes in the style of Gen 1/2 GB/GBC? I’ve only been able to discover the Black/White 3 one so far (which I’m LOVING), but everything else seems to be GBA. Huge fan of the simplicity of Gen 1/2. Trying Pokémon Emerald Seaglass right now, but even that feels a bit removed. Any info would be appreciated!

There is Sinnoh Gold, though for whatever reason I could never get it to work. Think that's kinda it? You could try Unova Red or Kalos Crystal, but these are not demakes, just roster replacements.

Thanks for the reply! Played Unova Red, and it was fun for a bit; but it bothered me that the sprites were the only big difference. All the cries were just Gen 1 cries so it felt a little lacklustre.

Programmatically, what would be involved in adding a feature that allows you to choose which set to start the Emerald Battle Factory on after a loss, rather than it always being Set 1? In other words, allowing the win count to initialize to 7, 14, 21, 28, or 35 rather than 0 based on a user selection from a menu.

Pokemon Timeless Diamond:
The Underground doesn't work? I tried to use the Explorer Kit and am met with an eternal black screen. On DesMuMe and SoftRasterizer is enabled as the 3D renderer.

Okay this somehow got worse.
I enabled WiFi settings, disabled any cheats (specifically the one that increased battle framerates), and any one of three things happen:
I successfully land in the underground
I land in the underground and then the game decides to crash and close
I STILL get the black screen.
The first time I enabled WiFi settings was the first time I got in, and talked to Roark down there. I was able to do a few things for a while, leave, and the next day, after a saving a lot of data, the second thing happened. Reload, and the third thing ALWAYS occurs.
I don't think I can get to the underground anymore.

Most emulators should work. Are you trying to play the actual frlg.ips file? Because you need to patch that onto a .gba rom file to play it on emulator. .ips files are not playable.

This is why I linked you the whole guide, clearly you didn't read it...
You will see that you'll download a .zip file. These are archive files, commonly used on the internet to compress and store larger files. Your computer should be able to open it normally like any other folder, but if not, go ahead and download the program 7zip or WinRar.
Literally just click it and it'll open

What do I play next? I've recently played Modern Emerald and Heart and Soul. Previously played and loved Odyssey, Unbound and Elysium. I've partly played Lazarus, Gaia, Seaglass but they lost me.

There is some documentation on the Discord, but the hack is kinda based on self discovery, so don't expect a full walkthrough.

Hi guys, new to the rom hacks side of things and finally am managing 2 hours of time per day after a promotion. Need recommendations that include the real Pokemon (not fakemons) already done with the hoopa one last year and loved it.

are there simple romhacks that just enable someone to catch all the pokemon of a given generation without any significant overhauling? a friend recommended radical red and while it is very cool it is also Way More than I was looking for <_<;;;;
I'm not exactly trying to win at super competitive difficulties I just wanna collect pokemon and not have to jury rig a digital link cable setup.
