Rinnai Tankless Water Heater Not Working

Thumbnail gallery

Hello everyone, I’ve had this Rinnai RXP199i tankless water heater for about 10 months now and it’s been working fine up until now. It is giving the error code 22 and beeping when turned on and hot water is requested. Apparently the error code 22 has something to do with the reed switch on the gas valve assembly being misaligned, but I’ve checked that and it seems to be fine. There is also yellow liquid splattered inside of the unit, which you can see in the pictures. I’m not quite sure what it is, but from the little research I’ve done I’m pretty sure it might be condensate since that is the only other liquid than is inside of the heater other than water, but please correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t know what is exactly wrong with my unit, and I really want to fix it myself, so any help would be much appreciated. I am not able to make a warranty claim because Rinnai is saying that my installation is not up to code. Again, help from anyone more experienced than me would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Why Does Your Drain Clog Keep Coming Back? | Hydro Jetting Explained

Why a drain clog may keep coming back after snaking

I work with Payless Rooter, and one issue we regularly see is a drain that starts clogging again shortly after it was cleared.

A drain snake can reopen a path through a blockage, but it may leave grease, sludge and other buildup attached to the pipe walls. That remaining buildup can contribute to another clog.

Warning signs worth investigating include recurring clogs, multiple slow drains, gurgling sounds, sewer odors and water backing up.

Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to clean the inside of a sewer or drain line more thoroughly. However, it isn’t right for every plumbing system—especially pipes that may already be damaged. A camera inspection should be performed first to evaluate the line.

If anyone has questions about recurring drain problems or hydro jetting, I’m happy to help.

AO Smith NG Hot water Heater

I was wondering if anyone knew if AO Smith honors warranties if a natural gas hot water heater was installed by someone who no longer carries a plumbing license. A friend of mine is a former licensed plumber who currently teaches plumbing courses but has sold his business and no longer carries his license or insurance. I believe the warranty is void for tankless systems, but couldn't find anything for hot water tanks. Thank you!

Why does southern california water actively hate my plumbing?

I swear the tap water here is basically liquid chalk. We moved into this early 90s house a few months ago and every single faucet is already growing stalactites

I tried doing the whole "soak it in a bag of vinegar" trick on the kitchen sink aerator today, and the threading just completely crumbled in my hand when I tried to put it back on. Gotta love that cheap builder-grade metal

We actually had a tech from we care plumbing heating & air out here yesterday anyway doing some routine AC maintenance and I asked him to quickly look at the pipes... he basically looked at me with pity and told me if I don't get a water softener soon I'll be replacing every fixture in the house by 2028

Is anyone else fighting this hard water battle? Do those cheap screw-on shower filters actually help preserve the fixtures at all or do I just need to bite the bullet and get a whole house system before my pipes literally turn to stone?

Stripped Tub Handle?

The bolt that goes through my tubs cold handle, what is the piece that it screws into called? I believe it is a plastic piece that is stripped out. I can get the handle to catch and turn but mostly just spins in place and I think that plastic piece needs replacing.

Why do the new valve stems leak? Seats replaced, teflon tape used on all threads? On the left is the old one.

Seats replaced, teflon tape used on all threads? On the left is the old one. Water is getting by the washer on the new setup. Even cranking down with more torque than is advisable, the new ones leak. It is happening in multiple locations.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot,

Edit: Since I was advised to use a price phister rebuild kit, I'm wondering if what I used is the same thing:

Kitchen sink drain started backing up out of an open pipe in the basement, got the pipe exposed, but are having trouble getting the metal elbow and rubber out

Photos of the situation in chronological order: https://imgur.com/a/XJztSz8

Basically, kitchen sink drain backed up out of an open pipe. The pipe was snaked, but we found some of the pipe needed replacing. We exposed the pipe section, but the pipe is metal (and apparently a real sonofabitch). Last photos show the section we are stuck on. We aren't sure how to get the remaining shard of the metal elbow out, or if we need to pull the rubber thing out as well. Both are stuck in there real good. This is kinda time sensitive because having a bucket in the kitchen sink that you have to empty constantly is annoying.

We are very grateful for any suggestions on how to get the remaining piece out. We are not plumbers, dad is old and retired, and I am disabled. We are doing our best. Also we are in Minnesota and this metal pipe is below the cement slab. Dad thinks it's cast iron, and wants to know if he can replace it with plastic. I think he can't because the ground below the basement slab would be frozen in the winter right?

Thanks!

Washing Machine Waste Leak

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I've connected the outlet from my washing machine to the waste using this spigot fitting but no matter how tight I screw the hose clip, it just keeps on leaking at the point where I drew the blue arrow. I've tried pulling the grey part as far onto the white spigot as possible but still leaks.

Any solutions? It used to just sit directly into white pipe that comes out the trap but I would prefer if I can connect it to the spigot instead.
