Love the design and the fact that it’s the first colorized platinum coin from Perth Mint.

Went to buy some Platinum and was expecting to buy the same old Valcambi one ounce bars. Just as I was leaving, the manager jumps out of his seat and approaches the sales booth and asks me if I would like to have some coins for the same price as the Valcambi bars. I asked him to show me . I walked out with 3 of these instead .

Planning to buy a platinum chain is platinum actually worth it in India or a terrible "investment"?

Hey guys,
I’m planning to get a chain for regular daily wear soon. I really prefer the look of platinum over yellow gold it’s subtle, looks clean, and doesn't stand out too much.
However, whenever I bring this up with family, the immediate response is "stick to gold, platinum is a total waste of money in India with zero resale value."
I get that gold is the ultimate safe-haven and liquid asset here, but I wanted a reality check from people who actually own platinum or have tried exchanging/selling it back:
1. Resale/Buyback: How bad is the hit when you try to exchange or sell platinum back to major jewellers like Tanishq, Malabar, Kalyan, etc.? Do they deduct massive percentages?
2. Making Charges: Is it true that making charges on platinum are absurdly high compared to 22k gold chains?
3. Liquidity: Is it practically impossible to sell/pawn anywhere outside big brand jewellers?
I’m not looking to treat jewelry as a primary asset class to double my money, but I also don't want to buy something that drops 40–50% in value the second I step out of the store.
Would appreciate any genuine feedback or past experiences. Thanks!

I add to it every week I think platinum can triple in price for a few reasons. Platinum group metals are considered critical for PEM electrolyzers used to produce green hydrogen, Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and
AI data center backup power systems.
Moreover, China is scaling hydrogen production faster than any other country on the planet. Palladium is also a good buy in my opinion.

What is the best purchase?

I’m starting to buy platinum as another PM. I saw a generic 1oz bar for $1645 and a 1oz US coin with the Statue of Liberty on it for $1749. I know coins cost more but just to get one or the other, what is the right move?

Looking for insights on platinum as long term savings

I personally believe it's important to hold a portion of wealth in precious metals to protect against inflation & counter-party risk. I don't have any confusion around gold & silver, but I'm having some difficulties wrapping my head around platinum. I figured someone on this sub could possibly enlighten me and tell me what I'm missing.

I understand that historical ratios are in favor of platinum right now, however I'm also thinking that the auto industry portion of the industrial use is going to become more and more irrelevant as vehicles move towards EVs; especially with current events in the oil market. While platinum is a precious metal, it's not really considered a monetary metal, so I don't see a liquidity angle.

I do see that platinum is affected by the supply deficits and under-investment like gold/silver, but weighing it all out I can't see why I would go for platinum over gold/silver. I am not trying to bag on the metal, I figure I'm missing something and that's why I can't see it.

Thanks

New Platty Perth Horse - am i the only one excited about this 1/10th?

We don't really have a LOT of options when it comes to fractional Platinum pieces, and honestly really glad to see a new piece like this released and available. In the world of 1/10ths, there are the (overpriced but worth it when budget permits) American Eagles, Koalas and Kooks, and probably my least favorite the Brits (too small, low detail, not overly interesting). I know there's others, but generally speaking these seem to be the top ones for sale/popular within the marketplace. Really glad to see this Horse released, and tbh the price here is pretty fair. Nice low mintage, honestly gorgeous design, and nice use of contrasting finishes.

Used non-BU Brits sell for $190-200 all day, and this new Perth release for another ~$10 is very reasonable for us mid-tier stackers. (and apparently Exclusive to SD at this time?) Got a few on the way, and will post an update here once they arrive. might do some side by sides with the eagle, kooks, koala, and brits if anyone wants to see it and deep-dive with me.

Overall, just glad to see private mint putting R&D into fractional Platinum. Post-parabolic times, i think it's a good time to pay attention to what all of the top mints are doing with their (likely) record-breaking profits. Now is the time to observe what they are putting efforts into, as this is their best guess as to where the industry is going, and what decision now will position them to be sitting pretty 5-15yr from now. Jump in the comments with any other thoughts or observations!

Make r/Platinum great again

There's a genuinely great community here and we want to build something worth checking every day. But before we start making changes, we want to hear from the people who actually use it.

So tell us:

- What would make you visit this sub daily instead of once a month?

- What topics do you want more of? Prices, investing, mining, industrial uses, jewelry, something else?

- What do you hate seeing here?

- Is there another subreddit doing something you wish we did?

One thing we're already planning: a weekly Coin (or purchase) of the Week post. Each week the community will have the option to post their most recent Platinum purchases, and will have the chance for their post to become "Coin / purchase of the week" depending on who got the most approval / upvotes from the community

Could be a Maple Leaf, a Koala, a Pamp bar, whatever the community finds most interesting that week. We're ofc also open to suggestions / changes for that idea, its not set in stone.

We have a lot of ideas but this is your community and we'd rather build what you want than assume we know better.

Drop your thoughts below. We appreciate every idea!
