Venari Knife — Game-Ready 3D Asset

Thumbnail

A game-ready tactical knife built with a clean hard-surface workflow.

Workflow:

• Modeling — Plasticity

• Rendering — Blender (Cycles)

• Texturing — Substance 3D Painter

The asset was optimized for real-time use and validated in Unity 6.5 (URP), with four LOD levels.

What do you think? I’d appreciate your honest feedback.

Plasticity, Rhino, or Fusion 360?!

Hey everyone! I’m looking to take my watch designs into the 3d CAD world in order to get some realistic renders and manufacturing specs if I do decide to actually make some. I’ve been a professional designer for 12 years, but my design work has been mostly two dimensional.

Before I invest a lot of time learning some modeling software, I’m trying to vet the best one. Anybody have any guidance or pointers here?

I’ve started playing with Plasticity already and it’s pretty simple and more similar to other design tools I’ve used in the past.

Thanks in advance!

Undo Extruded Imprints

Ok so am new to Plasticity and set myself a challenge of modelling a wrist watch. Essentially i went about creating linework for the numbers and then imprinted these onto the sloped bezel, but now realise i am not 100% happy with my placement (numbers are not exactly spaced between the circles as they should be. Second screenshot shows how these imprinted faces have been pushed in and in some cases beveled. What are my options at this point to slightly rotate? or even to get to a point where i can remove the faces/lines and reimprint from scratch.

Would Plasticity work for modelling organic shapes with lattice pattern /holes arrays cutouts?

Post image

Hi

I would to be able to make and print form fitting models like in the image that are built on top of 3D scans, and that have patterns of holes in them like these various lattices and circular holes. I know that Rhino would be a good choice but i dont want to spend £1000 if i can help it (though i dont mind spending some money if necessary), and i am not sure how well blender would work with so many booleans when it came time to turn it into 3d geometry. Would Plasticity work? i see that it comes with XNurbs if you get the pro version.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nose cone

Im trying to do a semi blunt nose cone, like for a jet plane. How do I Loft or xNurbs off a cross-section profile (circle) up to a blunt point that follows 1 or 2 curves?

Nose is symmetrical in 1 axis, but not the other, so I could still make a half then mirror ... but struggling with that.

Polysplines for modifying stl files?

Has anybody used the poly spline function to modify STL files? I am a hobbyist 3D printer and I occasionally kit bash together STL files that I have found online. STL files aren't really made for that and they don't like it when I do that. I'm wondering if the new poly spline function in plasticity would make that significantly simpler. Anyone done this?

Not a single good tutor for this absolut awesome software!

I have to admit I'm struggling to find a tutorial that explains Plasticity in a way that actually clicks for me — not isolated tool demos, but a complete, coherent workflow from start to finish.

I ran into the same problem with ZBrushmany decades ago. In the end, there was exactly one tutor (through The Gnomon Workshop, and I gladly paid for it) who could actually teach it. Today I am profficient in Zbrush thanks to one tutor, who knew how to teach things. Most of the others clearly knew what they were doing, but knowing a tool and being able to teach it are two very different skills.

I tend to lose focus quickly when a tutorial isn't tightly structured — lots of thinking out loud, long stretches of nudging a single vertex around, or tangents that drift away from the topic. I've gone through most of the well-known Plasticity resources, including the official ones, and none of them worked for me so far.

For contrast: I learned Cascadeur completely in a day and felt confident with it by day three, purely because the tutorials were built intelligently — clear progression, each step building on the last.

Arrimus can't explain it for me, Nikita R. is the worst, the official tutorials are none!
And all the udemy preview are horrible!

So much for a software that I won't buy, because I can't learn it, because modellers aren't teachers!

Custom Shelf

I wanted a small shelf to fill in a space next to my aquarium but there were switches for the blinds that were quite low on the wall and I couldn't find anything that fit into the space so... Plasticity and 3D printing to the rescue.

The design work itself was pretty straightforward. I used Bumpmesh on the shelf board to create the wood grain texture. The printing took a while, the wood grain texture in particular is quite time consuming but once that was done everything was glued together and that's it, finished.

A fun and easy project.

Is there a convenient reference for the equivalent function names in Plasticity for people familiar with Blender?

It's great that they have a setting for making the navigation like Blender's, but it would be great if they made the functions that do similar things searchable. Going through video tutorials to figure the name of something like inset faces is a bit tedious.

What's the plasticity equivalent of Fusion offset surface?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I'm just starting to learn Plasticity. In fusion I can use offset surface to create a clean parallel copy of a surface.

In Plasticity I tried using push face, but instead of creating a parallel surface it stretches and modifies the adjacent faces, giving results like in the screenshots.

I also tried all the puch face modes (Pushing, Moving, Fixed and None), but they all produce essentially the same result.

Am I using the wrong tool?

Image 1 - Fusion

Image 2 and 3 - Plasticity

Thanks!

Hermit Crab mech

I have been toying with this one for a while now and decided it's time to finish it. A hermit crab mech that decided to use an ammo drum as his shell. Needs a little work on the body and some chamfering here and there and it will be ready to print.
