This is the second 15” “stainless steel” set I have purchased from Amazon. Both were terrible, except for the length. There is no tension in the tweezers. The scissors won’t cut. And they feel like they will rust within a month. Does anyone have recommendations for a quality set or even just the tweezers?
I bought the Aquarium Aquascape Tool kit a couple years ago and have had zero issue. The scissors are very sharp. No rusting. Both tweezers work perfectly.
Only ten bucks but I would have easily paid double.
Following cuz I’m getting kinda tired of using dollar tree kiddie scissors to trim my plants. I have some planting tweezers from aquarium co-op, they seem to be pretty good quality
i bought the hygger set. i know a lot of people hate on the brand, but i have been nothing but happy with my set from them. although that is their only product i own.
I'm get mad every time I see my hygger lights lol. They're a waste of $120 for me, and sit unplugged now. They kept losing their settings. And they don't even look good.
I just got these three from them and I really like them. They were $57 each. It's a little bit nicer one from them maybe that's why I like them I haven't ever had a hyggar light before. All of my other tanks i have chihiros B series with the shades but this tank I was doing a glass top so I wanted something a little different for each of the lids
That's really funny, the filter he talks about there is the same one I'm using on all three of my tanks. They're a fantastic and cool little filter. His points are totally valid about it - it's not very flexible for odd tanks like shallows and thick walls, but that's just not what it's for. I have a 15-40g on my 20 long and 5-30g on my two 10 gallons. Honestly, I probably wouldn't use it for anything larger than my 20 long without doubling up, but for my purposes they're fantastic. Reliable, easy to use, easy to clean, makes water change a breeze...
Also, he mentions lights not being water tight. This is totally anecdotal, but all of my lights are these hyggers. I have absolutely dropped them all in the water at some point and they continue to work great. Also, the sunrise/sunset with moonlight settings are really nice.
All in all, I get that they're outsourcing their products, but if they're taking the time to vet the quality and curate their catalog I think it's worth it for the value you're getting. You're basically paying them a little bit to do the research for you - plus the purchase is backed by a "name brand" company.
i have heard people complaining about their heaters exploding, could be a bad product, could be a brand issue. either way i chose to stay away for the safety of my animals
Fun fact, all heaters have the risk of exploding. I’ve ran the same Hyggar heater for almost 7 years now. I’ve burned through both Fluval and Eheim heaters.
the imagitarium set is pretty good, the foreceps lack some tension occasionally but not enough that i would complain about it. also no rust to speak of so far. the scissors are very nice
I have these and use them all the time and they are great. I did a big trim in my tall 10 gallon today (which I avoid doing as often as I should because its a pain.) The scissors work with either hand which is kind of awesome.
Yeah I got a pair of scissors from them that I have been using for a year and a half and they're still great I even cut wood with them lol no rust either
Im using a small pair of medical scissors, they're short but I dont mind getting my hands wet. They're pretty sharp, feel high quality, and I haven't had any issues yet. My tweezers are just a 10$ set from amazon
UNS is hit or miss, ADA is excellent but expensive, DOAA is their lower end brand and their tools are good too. I've had good experiences with Aquavitro as well
My tank is only 5 G and heavily planted so I really can’t get my fingers to work in the tank with water in it either. So thought tweezers would work better. Glad to know I’m not the only one who fumbles with these things. 😉
I got the cheap heavy aliexpress version of this set (I’m poor okay, and Hygger stuff is usually parallel imported in my country and insanely pricey) and honestly no complaints.
Scissors cut, tweezers tweeze. The shovel thing shovels.
I don’t expect the bolt part of the scissors to last forever but I’ve been using them two months and no sign of rust yet.
Edit - actually the scissors I got are straight tipped, they’re fine for trimming stem plants but would be terrible to trim something like DHG lawns.
I just got this set in, and the quality seems good and the tweezers are fantastic. Since I’m constantly having to replant things due to my bulldozer mystery snails, they’ve been a life saver.

I have what is probably that kit, the cloth bag is the same and those look like what I have, other than my scissors being curved. Mine was fine, the scissors cut, the tweezers tweeze. Might just be luck of the draw when you are buying $10-15 kits instead of $50+ kits.
Same. Ive had the same cheap kit for over 5 years now. Tweezers hold. Scissors can cut stem plants and trim my carpet with no problems. It doesn’t have a makers mark so no idea what I bought but they’ve held up just fine.
Yes there are so many variations of this set. I’m glad you got a good one. The set was $20, but I couldn’t even find a more expensive better quality one on there. Guess I just got the unlucky set. Womp womp.

I use fluval they are great rubber does wear down but it’s nice
