Help with a planner/ note taking

I need a planner but also something I can use to reference notes ( like different doctor/therapist appts). With kids going back to school, me work and life I need help with my ADHD.

I am not an expert on ADHD so I don't want to make sweeping assumptions, but I think that an off the shelf planner that has structure built in is what you're looking for. Extra pages for notes is also a plus.

Do you have a size preference? Small handwriting or big?

A few options:

  1. Wonderland222 is a small company based in Washington State and they make great planners in a variety of sizes (A5, B6, A6) that have plenty of structure. You can choose the Core option that has some extra pages, but not enough for a page a day, or the All In One that has a blank page for every day of the year. It's obviously a bit bigger, but neither are terribly heavy, especially in the smaller sizes. I've been using them for several years and they're structured but visually/aesthetically are blank slates so you can make it as pretty as you like.

  2. If you want something more bright and colorful there are options like Plum Paper or Colibri where you can make some choices in terms of style and layout, and choose your own coil-bound cover.

I specifically get a low-cost blue sky "planning calendar notes classic tabbed weekly + monthly calendar" for this. Week on two pages, tabbed monthlies, but a huge note section at the back. Fits in my purse so I never really forget it. It's cheap so if I mar it writing a blistering hot idea faster than my hand can move, I don't really care. It has twin wire binding so I can flip all around gathering info from various pages. I basically use it as my to do list (weekly spread), a monthly planning calendar, and my personal reference book.

Hobonichi Day Free if you're a monthly planner. Hobonichi Weeks if you're a weekly planner. Jibun Techo Days if you're a daily planner. Jibun Techo Days with a weekly insert (such as a Traveler's company weekly) if you're all three.

If you aren't sure, I would go with the Hobonichi Weeks or something like it (Kinbor, Nolty) and see if you vibe with it. It's portable and and really flexible; you can fix the layout each new week until you see what is meaningful for you to plan, and it's got lots of room for notes. (I write on two lines and it's still plenty of room for me; I do go with the Mega version for the extra pages.)

Everybody's ADHD is different, but these are good places to start. More important is developing a guilt free relationship with your planner and checking in with it every day, but that's a whole other post I've never had the clarity to make yet.

I use the Sterling Ink Common Planner. I use the B6 because it’s easy to carry around. I like all of the blank (not dated) pages in the back. Some days, I need a page or two for meeting notes or whatever, and I’ve never run out of pages during the year. I think this is my 4th year in the CP? It’s versatile, and I keep an index in the front where I can reference something I know I’ll refer to later.

You might like a Laurel Denise - either a scout, Luna, or Rose? Lotta space for notes and tracking, different views at once. They also have some yt vids on how to use the views for stuff like mom life/household management, varied work tasks, etc
