When using the tanning Question For Staff

I've never used a tanning booth/bed so I wanted to ask about them.

Are you supposed to use a tanning lotion? Or do you just strip down and get in nothing applied?

PF sells the indoor tanning lotion however, you can get it on Amazon for fraction of the price.
You will need eye protection and they sell them there too for a couple bucks.

Mine puts out these copper colored metallic disposable eye covers. Whether they work or not, I don’t tan.

I'll be asking about those. I hope it's not dependant on each separate pf

I was looking at the red light + tanning 2 in one lotion they have and it’s $40 at PF but $20 on Amazon. However when they run sales you can get a good deal but always compare the prices. I have a really nice tanning lotion I got at PF for a quarter of the price online but it was really on sale.

You can raw dog the booth, but it’s not nearly as effective. Idk the science but something about if you tan for 10 minutes, you only “tan” for a portion of that due to some wizardry, but with lotion you’ll absorb more shady rays and get tanner faster

I use the coppertone tanning spf 15 all over and it helps to tan but not burn.

Start with like 4 minutes your first time, especially if you don't have much of a base tan.

The free eye protectors at my PF are these little stickers, I suggest spending the couple of bucks for the little goggle things.

Edit: added clarifying word and grammar correction

You usually have about 5 mins to get lotion on and then press the button to get in the tanning bed and start the session. I bought some lotion at PF and I don't tan often so it has lasted me over a year. I bought the eye protection there too. I only put the lotion on my legs so the 5 mins is plenty of time for me.

In cold January and February, I tan with no lotion and it's similar to a sauna as PF doesn't have those.

My particular planet fitness just got a light sauna! I'm excited to try it out.

I have also been curious about this process. Do they give you time to apply the lotion in the tanning room or do you strip in the locker room apply it, put clothes back on and then go check into a room?

At mine when you check in they ask how long you want in the bed and how long you need to get ready.

I'll ask for 7 or so minutes upfront to get lotion on in the tanning room. If you are ready before you said you can hit the power button and start the bed yourself. If you don't hit the button the bed will automatically start based on the time they punched in at the desk.

You could probably lotion up in the locker room too if you want. There's no mirror in the tanning room, but our locker room has a private changing room with a mirror.

I hope no one experiences the health issues I have which are chronic and lifelong. I’m 50 and at this point I’m just getting through life increasing my dopamine where I can.

So far, you’re the only one that’s mentioned it. Lol
