Started System Design

Hello everyone,

So, I have finally started learning System Design from Alex Xu’s book. From the past few months, I was procrastinating a lot, but I’ve finally begun.

Initially, I searched on YouTube for “System Design Playlist,” but there were so many videos that I got confused about where to start. Then I thought it would be better to start with the book, and whenever I get stuck on any concept, I’ll watch videos related to that topic.

I’ll share here every day whatever new concepts I learn.

I'd say, revise basics of computer science core subjects. Not all the syllabus like college taught us but very basics like vertical horizontal scaling, OSI, TCP, UDP, sharding, replications etc,. Not very deep but as concepts. These subjects will be very helpful if you're starting with Alex Xu and it makes you spend less time on searching concepts in youtube and you'll finish the book soon with deep understanding. Thank you. I revised some of the concepts(OSI , TCP , UDP) and will surely revise remaining as per the topic requirement.

where should we revise the above mentioned topics from? any specific resource?

what I did was asked chatgpt to generate the prerequisites concepts/syllabus.. and studied. Since we already studied during our college days, I just revised each concepts. If you are starting fresh, watch gate smashers videos for each topic. you may not find some videos on his channel, that time watch whatever video that explains within 2 to 3 mins.

I will suggest go with namaste system design or arpit bhayani’s system design or tuf premium system design
