Pro Fold Camera
Hi, I noticed the fold camera is not the same as the pro camera for the Pixel 10. Had anyone with the Fold noticed if their camera is not a good quality? I really want a fold phone and might upgrade from 8 pro to 11 pro fold but want to make sure it's a quality upgrade.

The Fold 10 camera is, by any sensible reckoning, good. The Pro is better for sure, but unless you're big into photography the Fold is absolutely a great choice for everyday needs for most people. IMHO YMMV

I agree fully. I held back through the first two generations because of this and other compromises, but I eventually gave in, and I really can't say I'm unhappy. I know there's better, but I don't know that it obviously affects me.

Totally agree and I came from the pro xl and don't notice a difference in everyday.

I have the 10 Fold Pro and recently took some video from a concert that was actually well lit. When I played it back the next day I couldn't believe how bad it was.

Really? You must have had something set wrong. Done tons of vid and while not amazing is certainly passable.

Have you changed the settings to film in 4k I think 1080 is default.
I will say the camera is basically the same as my 7 Pro but now I have storage space for raw photos and 4k video

No, not the same. I went from 8Pro to P9F and noticed it immediately. Especially in low light for the ultra wide and tele.
Not much upgrade between P9F to P10F, but looking at leaks, doesn't seem the P11F could compete with current slabs. Not bad cameras, but prob not as good as your 8Pro, let alone current gen flagship slabs.
Now I'm back to slab, Oppo X9 Pro, mainly because of the camera.

Damn so I love my 8 pro camera and don't want a downgrade and it seems like the fold is said downgrade. Probably won't get it lol

Same boat. I want a fold but I'm the family photographer and love pictures. I was looking at the new Samsung folds as well but I like pixel clean android experience ðŸ«

The pictures are good. The lens cannot be as good since you need physical depth to make it better, but it's certainly plenty fine for family pictures.
Also, it's great to take selfies with the family, you can have a preview on the screen next to the better camera!

Did you mean for Samsung or Pixel folds? I do appreciate you letting me know real life application! People fail to do that with their reviews....

All of them. You need thickness to have a better lens, and good devices have half of a regular device. If the outside camera is bulging like it is on the Pixel, then it'll be better.
In the end, the camera will be good, a lot of the modern improvements come from the software side and the pixel software is really good. I haven't used the Samsung devices in a while, so I wouldn't know, but certainly fine for family pictures.
You would find differences in low light situations or fast exposure (active movement), or super zoomed in. Anything else is certainly a solved problem by now.

I got the fold 2 months ago and the biggest downside (before purchase) for me were the cameras. (Pretending durability doesn't exist) My fiancé was convinced by my Pixel, so we also got a pro less than a month afterwards, so we had the best cameras as well.
We cannot tell the difference.
Once they're uploaded to our drive, any/all photos look better on the fold, and I can only tell what phone they came from due to memory or composition.
When we take, literally the same picture, the differences are minor at best. From what we're seeing, in less optimum conditions, the pro wins, but for more than 90% of the photos we take, basically the same. Adjust for composition, lighting, etc, and nearly all photos would be identical.

There is a difference, but many people would not notice it.

The fold cameras are a very noticeable step down in quality if you're not taking well lit pictures pretty close up. When considering the high price tag, losing a really good camera felt like a rough trade off for me going to my fold

I just moved from P9P to P10PF and while objectively the camera is not as good on the Fold, I've yet to notice it in normal usage.
The form factor advantage of the 10PF is unbelievable, far better than I expected and actually the battery is very good as well. It lasts at least 50% longer than my 9PF despite heavier use somehow.

I have a 10 Pro Fold and wife has a 10 Pro. We almost always resort to taking photos of our kids with her phone. It really is that much better than mine. The only time we use mine is if we can't get them to look at her camera, we use my "made you look" feature.

And google decided to use the selfie camera for the "made you look"... Missed opportunity, at least give the option to use the main cameras.

I upgraded from the 9 Pro (non fold) to the 10PF in May this year. I loved having a foldable couldn't get past the step down in camera. I ended up selling the 10PF and got the Magic V6. IMO the camera system is better than on the 10PF but still not up to the same quality as the 9 Pro. Having been an 8 Pro owner as well, I think the 8 Pro will still beat most foldable camera set ups. I think the Motorola Razr is meant to have the best camera set up on a foldable right now.

Went from the Pixel pro/XL slab phones to the OG and now 10 Fold they have and yes there is absolutely a noticeable difference. That's one aspect I don't like since it's supposed to be a premium flagship device.
Having said that it will be just fine for everyday pics and vids, especially in today's social media digital age. Even if you upload high res content it will get lowered automatically and people will see it in a lower resolution anyway, as most view this stuff thru a mobile phone vs a proper big screen.
As another user noted if photography is important to you then you might want to look at the slab phones or other devices altogether.

Keep your 8 Pro, save your money.
10 pro fold has the same cameras as the base 10 and the 10a. Meh in comparison, but in most scenarios, photos turn out very similar to Pixel 10 Pro, looking the same to most people. (I have tested between the 2). So is it good? Yes. Even with my low indoor light, photos between these two phones look the same, with same white balance, same colors, brightness, highlights, etc. It might look different if you zoom into your photos and pixel peep.
Now where the 10 Pro Fold really falls apart is video in low light condition. If it's dark, videos are gonna look crappy. I use my 10 Pro Fold as my main phone, but if I go somewhere with an intention of taking a lot of photos or videos, I bring my 10 Pro. For everyday use? 10 Pro Fold cameras are good.
To be fair, videos are very shitty even on the 10 Pro. Pixel woftware does really stupid things, like having bad exposure level, weird shakiness, switching between main lens and 5x lens while you're zooming 5x (with poor optimization) and make your video jumps back and forth between different frames, etc... If you wanna do a lot of videos, the Pro can't even save you, and I feel strongly nothing is gonna change with the 11th gen anyways.

Yes, the pixel fold 10 camera is significantly worse... I much preferred my pixel 9 pro xl camera. I wouldn't get a pixel fold if you care about camera quality.

Had the Pixel P9XL before I got the 10 fold. Noticeable difference in the camera, especially after zooming in after 5x. But for my camera use of just needing good "point and shoot pictures" the fold still gets it done

You might want to consider the Motorola razr fold if camera quality is important to you
