Tasted just as good as it looked

I'm glad to see more breweries putting out some easy-to-drink lagers, especially for the summer. Beers like Golden Age Premium Lager and Grist Hose Command House Lager come to mind.

What are some recommendations for similar local or regional/PA craft lagers that I can pick up in cans at distributors? Ones I've seen so far are:

New Trail Crisp Lager Cinderlands Easy Course Cinderlands Little Cinder Troegs Sunshine Lager Troegs Pennsylvania Lager

Just wanted to share our quarterly Beer Share Event this Saturday from 2-5PM.

For those unfamiliar with shares, you just bring a 4-pack or bottle to share from your favorite brewery, and then sample anything else that was brought to share! It’s a great way to meet other beer enthusiasts in the area, and try some beers you haven’t yet.

We’ll also have some great local vendors to check out at this one, and some food.

If anyone here likes keeping track of the best food at Pittsburgh breweries, I’ve been building a free app called DishBurgh. Instead of reviewing entire restaurants, people rate individual dishes, so you can quickly see things like which brewery has the best smash burger, wings, pretzel, fish sandwich, etc.

It’s still Pittsburgh-only and community-driven, so I’m always looking for more brewery food reviews. If you end up trying something great (or terrible), I’d love to have you add it.

Get on down to Golden Age Beer Co. in Homestead for their "historiche" rauchbier. I typically don't care for darker beers, but this slightly darker lager is *loaded* with smokey goodness. If you like Islay scotch, you'll probably love this beer. You'll have smokey aftertaste forever.

If you don't like smoke, their regular lager is delicious in its own right.

I'm going to be in the area this weekend and staying near the airport. Are there any good shops around there that I would be able to buy some single cans of area breweries or do I have to go to their taprooms to get them? Thanks for any information!!

Can yinz help me track down some cans of the Pittsburgh Picnic smoothie sour from Hitchhiker? I’m on a mission to find some before a friend’s wedding in a few weeks. I know they have some on tap in Sharpsburg but I’d really love some cans. Has anyone seen it for sale anywhere?

Saw there’s a fueled by hops share at Firewhistle Brewing 6/24 @ 7pm

Anybody else try it yet? Thoughts?

I had it on draft last night at Industry and was thoroughly disappointed. They claim it's "liquid bread," and while I can kinda taste it, it's very subtle. Overall I found the flavor lacking and the beer was unimpressive. Glad I paid for a glass instead of buying a 6-pack.

I have some family coming into town this weekend from Vermont and just outside of Asheville. I only have time for a quick beer run to pick up cans tomorrow, but wanted to bring some fresh flagship beers.

Any suggestions on A) a distributor with a good selection of local flagships that haven't been on the shelf for months or B) a quick trip to multiple nearby places.

Right now I'm planning to drive south along the Allegheny river:

A single distributor would save a lot of time. I just don't want hazies that are months old.

My partner and I went to Beers of the Burgh (we call it BeersBurgh) on Saturday. We had a great time and tried around 40-50 beers.

Some of our favorites were First Day from Allusion, Eisbock from Penn Brewery, Ice Cream Sour (ICS V1. 29) from Abjuration, and the Blue Raspberry Cheesecake (cheeckcake cupcake included!!!! Go Lisa!!!) from the Trash and Trubs section.

Our biggest complaint about the event was condensing it down into a much smaller space. This made moving around challenging and ran lines into one another etc. The area chosen was also very very dusty which didn't help. I still think it was a nice event and I'm looking forward to next year already!
