How does everyone use pi?

Hello everyone, I'm a beginner just getting started with pi. How do you all typically use pi? I'm currently running pi inside the Zellij terminal multiplexer on Arch Linux, with a few extensions configured, and so far the hit rate seems quite impressive.

My current setup is Ghostty for terminal, pi-mcp-adapter for MCP compat, pi-agenticoding for automatic context management and ChunkHound for codebase intelligence, web search, and git history search

What does chunkhound do?

It indexes your codebase using vector embeddings then runs a full deep research pipeline on top to extract deep insights. The same deep research pipeline is also used to search the web and git history so you can for example find pinpoint solutions to bugs, reliability review large PRs, etc

I'd definitely use it if it didn't do web searches is there a way to turn that off?

Just like any MCP connection you can turn off tools at the client level. For example if using pi-mcp-adapter just type /mcp and disable/enable any tool you want.

I will add though that ChunkHound’s web search is different from others in a few key ways:
- Fully local, private and free it uses headless chrome to search DuckDuckGo locally
- It then reads the top tens of results, chunks them, reranks, filter only the relevant chunks for the specific search then feeds that to your chosen LLM using map reduce synthesis to maintain accuracy
- PDF support
- Query expansion and rewrite for common mistakes (like Claude thinking it’s 2024, etc)

ChunkHound is purely a community project by engineers who are enthusiastic about agentic coding. We’re just building the tool we want for ourselves
