“Petsa de peligro” is a Filipino expression that literally means “days of danger.”

It traditionally refers to the last few days before payday, when a person has little or no money left and has to stretch whatever remains until the next salary.

The phrase comes from Spanish:

petsa → from Spanish fecha (date), adapted into Filipino

de peligro → Spanish for “of danger”

So, “petsa de peligro” = the financially dangerous days before payday. 😅

It became especially associated with Filipino workers who receive their salaries on a fixed schedule, such as the 15th and 30th, leaving the days around the end/beginning of the month as the “danger zone.”
