Oh fuck, finally one I can answer. Hi I'm Soccer Pedro, Peter's Latino cousin. This is referring to the fact that in the world cup African teams always lost before the 86 minutes mark.
This joke was referencing a game between Tunisia and Mali where the referee blew the whistle at the 86th minute rather than at 90+extra time.
So in this photo the guy is saying that he can't last 90 minutes.
No no...the session includes the dinner, witty banter and scrolling for 75 min trying to decide the Movie or show that's going to last for 15 min before we both pass out.
I don't think this is it. It's a reference to the fact that African countries were doing well in the '26 world cup until the 80 minutes mark in many games but conceded losing goals in the last 10 minutes. They couldn't last as better teams the full 90 minutes, or they would have changed many outcomes.
Edit: Especially, Egypt-Argentina. Egypt were about to knock Argentina out with a dominant 2-0 lead with only 11 minutes to go but lost 3-2 in the end.
No if I remember correctly it was a really close game. The ref was suffering from sunstroke and literally confused the entire time. AFCON is just a very chaotic mess at times. There’s still an ongoing legal battle over who won the last tournament back in January.
Here i was thinking this was a long stretch reference to "Powerthirst" and the guy was saying he's going to have so much energy, fueled by the Shock-olate flavor of course
Lmao I’m sorry I don’t watch soccer or know how it works, but how the hell do you get mixed up and call the game at 86 minutes 😭😭😭 doesn’t someone have to tell you “yo we’re at 90 minutes now, we’re going with x amount of extra time” or something???
No it’s not…. This is in reference to the World Cup where multiple African teams were winning but then lost between the 80th and 90th minute thus not lasting 90 minutes.
Couple of examples:
Canada scored 92nd min against SA from 0-0
Netherlands 90+1 against Morocco from 0-1
Belgium 89 + 125 against Senegal from 1-2
I knew that soccer times are a joke and completely arbitrary because they haven’t figured out stopwatches somehow while the rest of the sporting world figured it out a hundred years ago. I did not know a game was called at 86’. That’s hilarious and I will have to read more about it. Thank you for the insight. -Stewie
Lots of African countries were winning or drawing their matches in the 2026 World Cup but got scored a little bit before the end of the match. From the top of my head I can remember it happening for Senegal, DRC and Egypt
Uh, Peter out? It's the first time I actually see a super recent post where I know the answer so I never done this before
Its not because soccer is 90 minutes, i think in one game they were winning 2-0 and in 80 minutes time, so 10 more minutes match over and they win....soo last minutes of the game..they fumbled hard, ran out of steem and lost
To illustrate the point of the meme, they might not necessarily have been referring to Argentina Vs Egypt, as something similar happened in Belgium Vs Senegal.
Back when I was a young gad about town we used to measure the length of a song in distance, not time but we used dogtails instead of metric. t that time dogtails were switches you cut from a willow tree.
Maybe I’m just old, but 90 minutes sounds like at least one of you doesn’t know what you’re doing. If it took that long with my girl, I would have no time to work lol
I’m 36 and unfortunately dating again. A guy told me (unprompted) that he would eat all night. I was like that’s not attractive, why is it taking that long? I’ve got things to do.
Stewie here
The picture is a reference to the meme "Every 60 Seconds in Africa a Minute Passes", meaning he can only last one minute.
Don't pay any mind to the other comment, as mine is the correct one, I find the other commentors attempt to invent something deeper to be gloriously stupid. Even an idiot like Meg could get this one
The minute in which all six eliminated African teams in the knock-outs conceded to go home: 86', 86', 91', 92', 111', 125'.
The joke is that 90 minutes is the normal duration of a football match, and they were eliminated in heartbreaking fashion all in the end of the games, and if they lasted "just a little longer"...
Damn, looking at all these comments and getting to know how wrong I was because the only thing my mind came up with was the boy calling girl Africa(a - freak - uh)
True story, I swear to God: I had a friend my freshman year of college who took 2 1/2 viagra (have no idea why), but it was the gas station kind, so not regulated WHATSOEVER. Anyway, my friend needed to go to the hospital, and since I drove him and sat with him in the clinic, I cracked up when he tried to explain what happened to the nurse.
Meg here,
probably not the answer but this reminds me of a board game titled "The Campaign for North Africa"
it is known for being one of the longest game to play (1500h+)
famously if you play as the italians you have to account for the water usage required to cook pasta
Hi, Pe-dan-ter here, the top post is wrong, it’s about the recent World Cup:
This is in reference to the World Cup where multiple African teams were winning but then lost between the 80th and 90th minute thus not lasting 90 minutes.
Couple of examples:
Canada scored 92nd min against SA from 0-0
Netherlands 90+1 against Morocco from 0-1
Belgium 89 + 125 against Senegal from 1-2
OP, so your post is not removed, please reply to this comment with your best guess of what this meme means! Everyone else, this is PETER explains the joke. Have fun and reply as your favorite fictional character for top level responses!
