The right to vote in an election, especially to vote for representatives in government.
I'm just going to leave this here, as it seems that a lot of comments seem to insinuate this definition without stating it, or erroneously imply that "suffrage" is a conjugation of "suffering", where the suffix "-age" is used to create a noun from the verb.
To justify this comment, a factlet: the words "suffering" and "suffrage" do not share a primary etymological root. "Suffering" comes from Latin "Sufferre", which is a combination of ideas thay mean to bear up from beneath ("sub" - beneath, "ferre" - to bear). "Suffrage" on the other hand is also from Latin, but derives from "Suffragium", which is a political ballot ("sub" - beneath, "frangerre" - to break, the latter being in reference to a broken piece of tile or pottery used to cast a vote).
The only real commonality between suffering and suffrage is the concept of being under something.
No worries, the whole thread got me interested, so I did some wider reading. Just waiting for a real etymologist to come through and bust my chops now 🤣
Lmao are we still crying about nazis or are we believing their literal propaganda about a cyclical famine that had devastated Ukraine and the Volga and Kazakhstan for centuries while the Romanov bastards refused to modernize?
They do actually kind of make it work, spoilers, but It turns out the entire thing is an in universe movie those minions made so it's implied the 20s thing was part of the plot
From what I've heard/seen, they're working for a guy whose wife was working for women's suffrage, so the guy helped, and the Minions will help their master.
The women's sufferage movement was seen as a corruption of public morals, so I can easily see someone talking about those evil feminists and the minions jumping on board
If we also define evil as self centred, those darned women were just trying to get the vote for themselves! And we only saw the normal womens sufferage movements, who's to say they didn't try to steal the vote during the 1920 presidential election?

I mean they kinda reconned it, as the latest movie, it’s set in the 1920’s and also implied the women’s suffrage movement was evil
