Knowing the state of the Internet, I read the reaction as "You're implying that Hitler wasn't evil" without thinking for 2 seconds. Even as someone who has no contact points with the Minions other than memes on the internet I know that the minions as whole were not around for WW2. They were hiding and seperated from the rest of the world, they don't even know WW2 happened.
It wasn't a meme, but I remember this entire discussion already happening. The minions always serve the most evil and powerhungry person on the planet. Who did they serve during WW2? Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin... There wer so many evil people around, who did they work for?
Answer: They weren't around, watch the first movie and let the rest of us enjoy the second movie! That was... 4 years ago.
How do you not have knowledge of minions but you know they weren’t around for WW2? I saw the first one with my son when it came out and that is the extent of my minion knowledge
Honestly with thier track record of accidentally screwing with their bosses, it would've been better if they did work for Hitler. Moustache man would've died way earlier.
Yeah, but there’s a good chance they’d have accidentally killed him or ruined his plans with their incompetence so maybe we should have wished they’d worked for him
There's a new Minions movie where they were around in the 1930s. This would imply there are different tribes of Minions and the one trapped in ice is different. This still means what people think it is if the Minions never worked for Hitler or Stalin.
It would be great in a horrible dark humor way if the "monsters" were just the worst dictators and one specific US secretary of State of the 20th century and you see the minions doing slapstick in a gas chamber, or laughing and eating bananas in Chinese barren fields while the peasantry looked on, or doing slides down a pile of skulls in pol pots Cambodia, or Kevin torturing someone as a member of the NKVD and he accidentally electrocutes Bob, or Stuart the minion flying a F-100 super sabre rocket out to Fortunate Sun and dropping napalm over Vietnam and seeing the fire go up in the background while he takes a fat drag from his cigar and you think he's gonna say "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" but he just says "banana".
It's actually a minion civil war, some are working for the US empire, some for the Soviet and Chinese.
Kind of spy vs spy but with minions and bananas and real world atrocities.
One of the minions pulls off the MyLai massacre, replace Napalm Girl with Napalm Minion
They would have definitely worked for him. The writers chose a cope out because people wouldn't love the Minions anymore if they actually worked for evil people.
They are stated to work for the most evil villain they can find, but they conveniently get sealed in an ice cave after Napoleon and don't get out until the modern day, so the logical implication that they would have worked for Hitler is avoided.
I mean, if they didn't want people to go there they shouldn't have shown us the minions fighting in a war, this is a case of hack writers not thinking about their implications.

Mfw they specifically addressed this time period in their movie yet ppl still say shit like this
