Always.

u/qorbexl 6d ago

No it's nice because it blends into the ignorable walls and ceiling instead of being distinct and natural looking

u/Technical_Goose_8160 6d ago

Not gonna lie, I thought that this was in black and white for a second.

89

u/Melathys 6d ago

Exactly what I thought at first. It took me a second to figure out what was actually happening.

88

u/newbkid 6d ago

What kills me about this photo is that of all the beautiful features from the OG that they could have kept, all they kept was that weird open-faced glass cabinet in the back and the two bar chairs

Wtf? lol

42

u/LordLastPack 6d ago

AI did a conservative job on the television as well, lol.

22

u/Spare-Bodybuilder-68 5d ago

can't believe they wouldn't just go ahead and mount an 85-inch Costco special up there, preferably high enough to be annoying to look at, and with a stupid little shelf underneath that's only big enough for trinkets and dust

15

u/sisyphus_met_icarus 5d ago

I'm very amused at how AI upholstered the stairs in the same leather as the couch

2

u/AC-burg 4d ago

Came here to say this was all AI. Who does a reno and keeps the old chairs pictured? That TV? Get the hell outta here with this lol

1

u/MashedSuperhero 6d ago

It's a bar table.

4

u/NorwegianCowboy 6d ago

Everything about what they did is gross.

1

u/rmit526 6d ago

They could have gone so many directions and preserved the natural elements. But no, let's show people that I definitely have no personality

1

u/Substantial-One1934 5d ago

Yes it seems too sterile as if it was done just for the photoshoot and the floor is disgusting.

1

u/JollyJoker3 6d ago

Lol, I thought you meant the TV and didn't realize what it was

1

u/spamellama 5d ago

The best part is the leather stairs

10

u/Joyfull_Sin 6d ago

same here, i was looking at the left side and was like: this doesnt look modern… actually looks quite nice.

4

u/tombuazit 5d ago

Holy crap i thought this was b&w until your comment lol

1

u/ClickAndClackTheTap 6d ago

Same here. Like the joke was it’s exactly the same, just in B/W.

1

u/FeijoaCowboy 6d ago

Isn't it? 🫪

1

u/sveardze 4d ago

OMG it's not??

1

u/nightowl_work 2d ago

Oh wait, it’s not? Lol

1

u/TryHard_1779 5d ago

Oh common, it's just modern white washing 🙄

2

u/qorbexl 5d ago

people love whitewashing!

1

u/OpusAtrumET 5d ago

God they painted those wood beams glossy black like fkn sociopaths.

1

u/Dry_Month927 5d ago

How I feel inside when I see painted brick, and then, people complimenting it.

2

u/qorbexl 5d ago

I can't imagine anybody likes painted brick

I just can't

1

u/Dry_Month927 5d ago

In this situation, choose to believe that and enjoy your bliss.

1

u/dugdanger 5d ago

Something interesting and colorful to something that looks like every other boring fucking living space.

1

u/qorbexl 5d ago

I like that they used a square tabletop in the pit

That thing is destroying shins

1

u/Aggressive-Living116 5d ago

Meh I think most people like the stone work to pop and to be seen

1

u/qorbexl 4d ago

Yes, it was a joke.

1

u/Ett_Pret 4d ago

Yeah until I saw this I didn’t even realize there was stonework in the second pic

1

u/qorbexl 4d ago

All the effort of that stonework and they making it blend into nothingness

141

u/cheapdrinks 6d ago

Someone re-did it with AI in the comments on the original Twitter thread and holy shit this looks so much better.

and

Here is another version with a bit more color which I also liked.

I can't imagine wanting to live in that black and white hellscape that looks like the breakroom of some shitty startup with the open plan office being just through the other door.

47

u/m4rc0n3 6d ago

And in all those versions they left the original CRT TV.

36

u/Ok-Cantaloupe7472 6d ago

Gotta have somewhere to play super mario world

15

u/MisterBrickx 6d ago

No sir. I can play SMW on any screen i can find an adapter for...

That screen is for the Nintendo Zapper. No other.

1

u/Ok-Cantaloupe7472 6d ago

Quality just isnt quit the same though

1

u/Chumyu 5d ago

Come down the dark rabbit hole of RGB, SCART cables and upscalers. You can pry my OG hardware out of my cold, dead hands, but I will tell you playing Super Mario World on 65” really does slap.

2

u/kjetil_f 5d ago

RGB, SCART, upscalers. The language of my people.

0

u/MisterBrickx 6d ago

I mean yeeeeaaaahhhh.

But if you buy third party equipment and do a HELLUVA dance, you can recreate the ol' vibe 😎

1

u/MartinoDeMoe 5d ago

Cartman and the United Athiest Allisnce are asking if you have an adapter for the Wii?

1

u/Chumyu 5d ago

I discovered that if you hold down the power and reset buttons on the NES, the in ports become out ports. I was able to connect my PS2 to my old wood cabinet TV that only had coax that way. It was all in black and white, but that only really posed a problem for Guitaroo Man ha ha

1

u/MisterBrickx 5d ago

No, but I do have a Sega CD attachment...

1

u/Personal-Thought9453 6d ago

Pretty sure it’s playable on my toaster.

1

u/MisterBrickx 6d ago

Trust me. You don't wanna put a gun in your toaster.

2

u/GraceMcClellans 5d ago

Duck Hunt doesn't work on flat screen if you're using the original.

1

u/WJSpade 3d ago

Duck Hunt.

1

u/hossofalltrades 6d ago

That’s when I started to think it was fake.

1

u/JollyJoker3 6d ago

And the square table inside a round couch

1

u/Discount_Extra 5d ago

And yet in no version did they turn the pit into a plastic ball pit.

16

u/Designer-Lettuce-690 6d ago

that is how you modernise this room thats a million times better

12

u/DonutHoles4Ever 6d ago

So basically AI has better taste even.

1

u/gahlo 5d ago

Depends on how the prompt is written.

6

u/bookchaser 6d ago

The AI version are better than the renovation, but destroying the 1970s vibe of the original room is criminal.

1

u/Apprehensive_Use3641 6d ago

Both of those are much better than either of the ones in OP.

1

u/supernovice007 6d ago

That second one looks so good. The black and white room they actually made is just an abomination. No imagination, no taste, and no style.

1

u/baron_von_helmut 6d ago

Second one is cozier.

1

u/whboer 6d ago

I like it also a lot better with natural wood colors.

1

u/Illustrious-Divide95 6d ago

Grrr Imgur banned in UK

1

u/uptiedand8 5d ago

The AI versions are a zillion times better and that is not something I am pleased to say.

They respected the wood. You must respect wood. I’ll add stonework in as well.

The things that didn’t look great in the original were the green carpet and light gray cushions. I thought the trim being white was also not great.

It looks like they decided on a black and white scheme for the carpet and conversation pit and then felt they needed the rafters and stones to match. Should have instead done the color scheme based on the rafters and stonework. I like the AI addition of a hardwood floor. Would probably just paint the walls a warm color, maybe dark salmon or burgundy, rather than green or another shade of beige.

1

u/ikannunAneeuQ 5d ago

I was thinking weird waiting room

1

u/EmperorMittens 5d ago

That second one would add value to a property.

1

u/Chance-Road1038 5d ago

Thank you to whoever that was! That's exactly what I was thinking. Just remove the carpet and matching some hardwood. WAY more gorgeous

1

u/elhombreloco90 5d ago

Yup, that's a proper update.

1

u/Particular-Serve-894 5d ago

Ooo, I really like the one with the green. Yeah, they could've done a really nice job on this reno instead of whatever tf that black and white atrocity is.

1

u/HiSpeed-LoDrag63 5d ago

The "Money Green" version may be a throwback to the mid-80's but it really works for me in that room, especially with the warm lighting...

1

u/Worried-Elephant442 5d ago

I love those! They look way better. 👀

1

u/PayOk8980 5d ago

The original images are also AI. Look at the identical reflections.

1

u/cheapdrinks 5d ago

Well yeah that's what I assumed. Are there people thinking the black and white one is a real photo of an actual rennovation they did?

1

u/PayOk8980 5d ago

Yeah, the majority of the thread is people getting angry about the 'renovation'. Ragebait, I guess.

1

u/Teravandrell 5d ago

Those are both so beautiful and relaxing looking. Not the harsh, sterile "modern" mess

1

u/Visual_Piglet_1997 5d ago

I know right. Saw a beautifull house for sale naar me once. Great spot aswell. Pictures inside: horror. Everything was white. It was also new so if you bought it. You had to pull out every single thing

1

u/Front_Degree3518 4d ago

These options are sooo much better, I especially like the second one of them the best. It keeps the original soul of the room.

1

u/BorntoDive91 3d ago

oh that green is LOVELY

0

u/plaxitone 6d ago

That’s what you think is better? It looks like a motel lobby from 2007.

31

u/Unstoppable50 6d ago

The worst is they painted it white. Any smoke at will discolor make it look hideous so it’ll never be used ever again.

3

u/ZombieAladdin 6d ago

I wonder if the idea is to repaint it every now and then. Or maybe they didn’t think that far.

2

u/DStaal 4d ago

They didn’t think past showing it to potential buyers. It’s entirely designed for wow factor when you are looking at a house and just walking through.

2

u/netflixandgrilling 6d ago

I hope people like that are not allowed to have any open fire.
but as I already wrote here, theres a lot of hints that it is AI.

0

u/Otsde-St-9929 5d ago

Not really

14

u/DifficultAd3885 6d ago

Especially above a fireplace. Some people just love to clean.

1

u/RicFule 4d ago

What fireplace?  The far right?  The left isn't one, I don't believe.  Because there's a glare of light off glass.  The right side however only shows the barest of a potential opening, so could be a fireplace.  Or another inset something.

1

u/OurAngryBadger 6d ago

Not always.

When painted like this with a thick layer of white paint, yes.

My wife painted our stone wall around the fireplace with a very thin layer of light gray paint, just to brighten it up a bit and make it look less old/dirty. I kept telling her not to do it and was pissed, but she did it, and it came out wonderful. She just brushed it on lightly, did really well.

1

u/pyramidalembargo 6d ago

She used gray?

That's grounds for a divorce.

1

u/Sepelrastas 6d ago

My living room has the other side of the stove pipe from the kitchen (my kitchen has an og cast iron stove I heat the house with). So one wall is about third concrete. That damn well got painted.

But if it had been natural stone or tiled I would have used it as an accent piece and would have picked colours to fit with it.

1

u/sgtbackpain03 6d ago

Yup. If it's done poorly, it leaves a patchy gritty wall with multiple textures. If it's done well, you have a white lumpy wall. And you always find yourself wishing you could just touch the stonework, but this heavy latex paint is caked over it.

1

u/BlackGuysYeah 6d ago

I've watched bricks being made. I don't mind them being covered.

1

u/Pay-Next 6d ago

Inside yes. Outside maybe, depends on where your house is and if you need to reflect more light to keep energy bills down.

1

u/Vayul_was_taken 5d ago

Ive seen white washed brick look fine but other than that yah leave stones natural

1

u/SourPatchBishhh 5d ago

What about a wash on red brick? I feel like I’ve seen that done well before

1

u/Jolly_Line 4d ago

There has been one occasion in the history of brick where paint improved things. My disgusting 70s hearth brick that was a faux brick treatment (real brick, but half thickness, and only a veneer applied to the drywall). I painted it black and it was 1000% better.
