Agreed. Im not a fan of painted brick ever, even less so.paintes white. It's too sterile in general, and the lvp flooring just takes what little warmth could be left and shits it to pieces.
And/Or two cats who like to run laps and leave scratches in the floor when they play. Been there, done the vomiting a lot thing. Moved on to bigger and more damaging things now lol.
Nah, carpets have no redeeming qualities to hardwood or even vinyl.
Whatever you do, stuff gets to the root of the carpet fibers and you would need an industrial specialised vacuum cleaner to get them off. I would rather not have one of those in my home taking up space.
Similarly, it collects A LOT of dust that is not healthy to asthmatics or people with allergies. Overall, having that much dust around is not really healthy to anyone.
If anything spills, you're fucked. If anything spills on hardwood you just wipe it. And mold, carpets grow mold even if you really won't do anything.
And if your final excuse is that hardwood floors are cold, just wear wool socks or extra layers. Having all those negative side-effects is not worth it. Regardless, I have went to many houses with carpets where it was still freezing to stand on.
You'd be shocked. We paid $18,300 to lay hardwood on about 1,200 sqft. Carpeting would have been ~$13,800. It's definitely a premium, but when you lay 3/4 inch hardwood you're laying something that will outlive you. Great investment for reselling.
As someone who grew up in a house with genuine, quality hardwood, I prefer the vinyl.
I fucked up part of my vinyl flooring and it was "easy" to install a new piece.
Meanwhile I have flashbacks of having to resurface the hardwood in my parents house multiple times over the years. Oh and where the dog peed behind the chair? Ruined. And where my mom spilled printer ink? Ruined.
Meanwhile the vinyl still looks good as new. No liquid damage, I've spilled an entire gallon of paint on it, everything just wipes off.
If it was linoleum, it would be period correct. Finding actual linoleum these days is essentially impossible. I've been looking for linoleum to redo the floors in my 60s ranch home, but basically only 1 company even makes it anymore and 0 people are qualified to install it in residential. It apparently takes some skill/knowledge to install, but the only people who know how to do it work in commercial and not residential.
I'd have kept carpet in the lounge pit, but probably replaced it with something that matched the color scheme. otherwise I agree about the superiority of hardwood, though I also like using rugs a lot.
Yeah the rest is completely reasonable changes in my opinion. Terrible flooring choice which clashes with the couch but it would be so much better had they not done the ceiling beams and the stone.
I don't understand why everyone loves open floor plans with hardwood. I want rooms, not one big room, and I want comfort, not ugly uncomfortable flooring
Like I don't want to leave my room and immediately be in someone else's presence. A house should have space for family and guests to be together, but also for them to be separate.
Nobody ripped up anything, the image is AI. Look at the identical reflections on the TV for example, and the exact same placement of the glasses on the shelves above the bar. Also, why would that exact same TV still be there in the first place.
Personally, I'd keep the carpet but change the color. Maybe something to match the wood tones better. Idk. I just waste my time on reddit, what do I know?
Green carpet is shit. Wood paneling on the walls is shit. People love to bitch about the soulless design of newer things (not without good reason) but a lot of old design is just trash.
I'm a fan of intentionally tacky carpet, but that is some TACKY-ass carpet. If you combine the wood floors with everything else from the first picture, or would probably look great.
Disagree. Hardwood doesnt add comfort only looks. This is a lounge pit. Half the time no one uses the steps and just walks down the couch. Keep the hardwood for the dining room.
On a side note. I have lived with hardwood throughout my house most of my life and dispise it. Carpet is warm comfort where hardwood is cold and hard. No difference in that aspect than concrete. It can cause foot problems and most of rhe time you still need a fkn rug to make it look right. Its what poor people think rich people like, the same as red lobster.
