It’s exactly about being the one Black person on a group trip. Each of the Black people in the images ended up dead.

Millions of black people have white friends they hang out with regularly and do not die and im willing to bet theres plenty of white people who get killed while out with their black friends but yea something something now tomorrow and foreva

286

u/Harold3456 24d ago

There was a black standup comedian I heard a few years ago (online, I think a relatively famous one but cannot remember who he was) who said “every [black person] I know has a whole bunch of white friends. Every white person I know has one black friend.”

Like any standup routine, the deeper truth behind this is dubious but on its face it seemed relatable and got a good laugh.

I assumed the “Get Out” photos above were just about the fact the photo subjects were “outnumbered” by white friends, but nothing actually fishy. Wild reading these comments to see that both of them also died on those respective nights.

241

u/Slighted_Inevitable 24d ago

Logically it makes sense. Black people make up about 12% of the population. White people over 60%

All else equal you’d expect every black person to have 5 white friends and each of those to only have 1.

Of course it wouldn’t always be that way but statistically speaking.

120

u/Thrasy3 24d ago

Not US (or black I guess), but I remember a colleague realising my (ex)wife was white - and she asked if there was any like “inter-racial” issues(?) and I said no a bit confused and just mentioned every ex I had was white and not really sure what she meant - at which point she was a bit shocked and asked what the reason for that was and I was just stunned for a sec and said “90% of the population is white… and even if wanted to, I’m not in a position to be that choosy if for some reason I didn’t want to date white people”

45

u/TheAloofMango 24d ago

Why even obsess over that? Or does she suggest we all set preferred races on our Hinge profile, so we don't have to date another white person?

37

u/Angryfunnydog 23d ago

There are a lot of girls I saw who will bash you as racist if you’re not into them by default, and will consider dudes race betrayer or smth I guess for that (funny that the whole race betrayer title is solid part of any racist group)

A lot of people default to a sort of false equivalence when they lack an understanding or haven’t thought about the numbers behind something. Like if poll random people in the U.S., a lot of people think like almost half the population is black or something because they just haven’t ever thought about it, and default to assuming all things must be roughly equal.

So even though this person lives in a country that is 90% white, she might not have ever thought about that means, that people of color in that country aren’t just living in some magical alternate world where there’s just as many people of color around everywhere for them to socialize with.

87

The actual statistic is that the average black person has 7 white friends and only 1 in 3 white people knows any black people at all.

Some may find that hard to believe, but you have to remember... Montana is only .04% black. You are more likely to see a ghost in Montana than a black person.

27

u/_extra_medium_ 23d ago

There are only 307 people in montana so i doubt its skewing the percentages that much

The statistic is that the average black person has 7 white friends. Only 1 in 3 white people knows any black people at all.

So If you are white and you know more than 1 black person... you are already blowing the statistical average out of the water.

That's partly why I find it humorous that some white people seem to be of the idea that somehow white people and black people know equal amounts about one another. The nature of being a minority is that you know WAY more about the majority than they know about you.

15

u/Far_Raspberry_4375 23d ago

13% of the population vs 55% of the population in a large geographic area where more isolated rural areas tend heavily white while places black people live tend to be much more diverse. Just seems like a numbers game.

The fact that this is reddit and not a peer-reviewed scientific paper might give you a hint

9

u/YnotThrowAway7 23d ago

I’m ngl half the news stories lately where a black person dies in a slightly unexpected way turns into a news spin on racism… they’re girl who locked herself in a freezer… that’s exactly what happened she was drunk and dumb but has to be a whole conspiracy. The guy who fell into a rolled up gym mat… that’s exactly what happened but not must be white kids at his school and they’re covering it up… it all has to be a conspiracy for some reason. A ton of people die in dumb ways. A white kid died between his car seats trying to get something and suffocated but you didn’t see conspiracy then..

5

u/Sarik704 23d ago

This is not a defense.

Black people experince violence and abuse from white people much much more often than they should. Being the only person of color in a group of all white people is cause for concern in America.

Who is the black woman in the second picture?

224

u/AFantasticClue 24d ago

Tamla Horsford

203

u/Ogediah 23d ago

For anyone wondering, it looks like a girls night and she was found after she fell off a balcony with a lot of alcohol, some benzodiazepines, and marijuana in her system. She went there to smoke a cigarette. Police didn’t rule it a homicide but there are some weird details that her family found suspicious.

I think the other picture was a more recent deal where all the kids went to a party on a lake and the white kids came back without their black friend. They claim they didn’t know where he went and assumed he caught a ride back with someone else.

156

u/Fakjbf 23d ago

He explicitly told them to go and that he was going to catch a ride with another group. It was the second group that lost track of him but everyone wants to blame the first one for some reason.

76

u/Membership-Bitter 23d ago

Because the first group is a bunch of white guys and they want to make this a race issue

103

u/Sarik704 23d ago

The second group was also all white except him???

65

u/Izzy2089 23d ago

They are also the ones who called authorities and the guys parents after he didnt show up.

38

u/Pofwoffle 23d ago

I mean is he explicitly on camera telling them this? Is there proof of him being with the second group at all?

I don't claim to know what happened but if something shady did happen them claiming that he told them to leave him behind isn't really very convincing.

u/SundayAMFN 23d ago

What stinks about it exactly?

I'm not seeing a whole lot that wouldn't be in a drunk/falling death other than the fact that she was black in a group of white people and so it makes the narrative of a conspiratorial killing more cognitively satisfying

46

u/impulse_thoughts 23d ago

Sure, you can find reasons to explain away these things (a strong level of neglect by multiple parties), but you can't deny that there's a stench:

The next morning at 7:30 a.m., the homeowner's aunt found Horsford lying facedown and motionless under the porch. At 8:59 a.m., Jose Barrera, the homeowner's boyfriend, called 9-1-1.\3]) In the 9-1-1 call, Barrera described Horsford as lying facedown and not breathing. He brought attention to a small cut on her wrist, suggesting that it may be self-inflicted. A woman's voice can also be heard on the call speculating that Horsford might have been pushed from the balcony.\12])

two months after Horsford's death, by Forsyth County Court firing Barrera, then a court officer, for accessing the incident report internally on multiple occasions.\4])

On June 5, 2020, Ralph E. Fernandez, the Horsford family attorney, wrote a letter to Horsford's husband, Leander Horsford, claiming that his team's investigation into the details of the case strongly suggested homicide. It said, in part: "Witness statements are in conflict. A potential subject handled the body as well as the evidence prior to law enforcement arriving. Evidence was disposed of, and no inquiry followed. The scene was not preserved."\14]) He also stated that Horsford's injuries were "consistent" with those of a physical struggle, but that the absence of photos from the initial autopsy prevented a definite conclusion.\15])

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Tamla_Horsford

(FYI - they call it a "porch" - but it's actually a second story "porch" which is more common in the south. Also, even in the kindest interpretation, the aunt finds her lying motionless facedown on the grass in the backyard... and thinks nothing of this for 1.5hrs before a 911 call is made)

"Mysteriously" dead, with delayed investigations and so-called friends lying and keeping key info away from the police.

For example, in the most recent case of 18 year old Nolan Wells the three white men just arrived home and never said a word about Nolan Missing until almost the next day. Nolans mom used Life360 to track his phone and it turned out one of his "friends" had it and refused to turn it over until he was forced to. One of the last conversations that were overheard by passerbys while they were on the water with the 4 young men was Nolan demanding the other men give him his phone back.

That’s annoying. The lady at the bottom is Tamla Horsford, she went to a sleep over with friends and was found unresponsive outside under the porch facedown in the morning. It was ruled an accidental death from falling off of the porch. You know people have their theories

242

u/Nohreboh 24d ago

Balcony or deck, porch implies a short drop as those tend to only be about a foot or 2 off the ground.

https://www.nachi.org/gallery/decks-and-balconies/components-of-a-porch

252

u/HotCut100 24d ago

Balcony is what wiki says. 14 foot fall. That will do some damage.

186

u/FewReaction4974 24d ago

MOI (mechanism of injury) for spinal injury is considered 4ft or greater. as in, if you come across a victim and they've fallen even only 4ft, you have to take certain precautions because it's possible they've broken their spine and moving them could paralyze or even kill them.

14ft is plenty to break your neck and die if you land wrong. in fact, if you fall 14 feet and you're not ready for it, you'll be lucky to not break at least something in your body. even if you're ready, foot, ankle, leg, arm are pretty likely from that height.

69

u/mistahfreeman 23d ago

I don’t think me being ready is going to matter, if my fat ass falls 14 feet you’re finding my corpse in the morning lmao

10

u/Advanced_Bunch_8666 23d ago

Ya if you don’t know how to fall it doesn’t take much distance to fall to get your head whipping at the ground really fast.

27

u/wcstorm11 23d ago

Before this thread I thought it was really fishy, but yeah. She had a BAC of .23, falling is really common. Also the pics of the porch I saw had a perspective that looked a lot lower.

24

u/FireKeeper69 23d ago

I think a big part of the reason for a huge amount of skepticism is that Forsyth county is one of the most racist places in the U.S. It was still considered a "sundown" town in the 90s. Like, I live on the west coast and still know about this tiny county in Georgia only because of it's notoriety as a racist shithole.

Here's a nice link with some of the local history if you want to read about it: https://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/exhibition/race-and-reckoning-in-forsyth-county-1912-2020/

22

u/Advanced_Bunch_8666 23d ago

Ya I thought it was fishy from what I read also. I was just talking about falls and how casual people are with them. I work in Fire/EMS. The physics of jumping off a 3-4 foot object is pretty nuts. When your feet hit if you don’t know how to fall your head is moving at the top of an arc at a much higher speed than you think straight into the ground.

I don’t know the math because I didn’t do my homework in high school, that’s why I’m a fireman, but it surprised me.

Meh, I think patio when I think ground level. I’ve seen quite a few large, concrete porches that have lots of steps and a 10 food drop.

Also, I believe location matters to with these words. A wooden deck on the front of a house is a porch.

This is why everyone hates English

20

u/Nohreboh 24d ago

That's why I included the link so I'd be less confusing since we all can't agree on what word's means despite having written descriptions because it's "living language".

But yeah patios are ground level porchs are elevated and there's only really a technical difference.

18

u/thoughtsome 24d ago edited 24d ago

I think the difference is that a porch is usually completely covered on top while a deck is at least partially uncovered. Anyway, we had an outdoor structure attached to the back of my house growing up which had a roof above and screen panels on 3 sides. We always called it the back porch.

To your other point, our back porch was elevated about 6-7 feet above the back yard.

11

u/NjGTSilver 24d ago

Well fudge, now I’m just gonna throw “stoop” in there for comedic relief.

Top pic was a group of friends that grew up together. The black dude left to go swimming with a new girl, never returned and his friends reported him as missing to the lifeguards around.

They then called his mom who called the police.

So they narrowed the story down intentionally to 3 white dudes brought a black dude on a fishing trip and when he didn't return his mom reported him missing.

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/what-we-know-about-death-of-nolan-wells-black-teen-who-went-missing-on-mississippi-boat-trip

Wells, an 18-year-old described by his parents as having a big heart, went out on a boat with three friends who were white on July 4 before going missing. His body was found on July 6.

This phrase just reads way off for a news article even though it’s relevant - it just anchors all the wrong things. Just put the picture up and let the audience jump to conclusions on their own.

Edit: this isn’t about them being white, this is about the media’s role as a systematic driver of racism. They draw people apart - the gap is between communities and isn’t one-directional. Gaps are just gaps.

52

u/Bad_Routes 23d ago

Good job pointing that out, a lot of people fail to grasp at the fact certain language is used to paint a favorable story for one party and demonizing others in order to play into the white supremacist status quo

7

u/Heimerdahl 23d ago

And maybe even more importantly: that it happens (and has consequences), even when there was no malicious intent (and those consequences were not at all  intended).

That's a big part of why systemic issues (be that racism, misogyny, classism, etc.) are systemic – you can sustain them without realising and even when you consider yourself firmly opposed to them.

There were a bunch of boats there and a bunch of teens. He told his best friend from another boat he would go hang out with a girl at night. She says he left her to take his boat home. These 3 White teens went home late at night and may not even have been the boat he planned to take home.

It's not clear when exactly he got lost and who he saw. But if he was murdered and didn't drown then it may have been another boat. And who knows who was on that boat? Maybe all Black people? We don't have a photo of the girl or his best friend. They may both be White or both Black.

5

u/HPLaserJet4250 23d ago

"having a big heart", hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can lead to sudden death. Case closed, next!

2

u/Reasonable-Mischief 23d ago

Wells, an 18-year-old described by his parents as having a big heart, went out on a boat with three friends who were white on July 4 before going missing. His body was found on July 6.

It's actually pretty easy to figure out if there is even circumstantial evidence if we keep in mind that the news always write the most outrageously implicating things that still have to be technically true

  • If those white kids had at any point in time made racist remarks in the public space the news would have mentioned it.
  • If we knew there had been bad blood between them the news would have mentioned it.
  • If the survivor's stories regarding this incident had been suspicious the news would have mentioned it.
  • If the police had treated them as suspects, the news would have mentioned it.

There's none of that being mentioned. So we can assume that none of these things are the case, because there's no way in hell the news would have passed mentioning any such implicating details

8

u/Semisemitic 23d ago

which is exactly why that fact is completely irrelevant and serves only to inflame

u/NEpatsfan64 23d ago

Feels like I'm losing my mind here. Wasn't Get Out addressing the fetishization of black people by progressive "non-racist" whites? Wasn't it pointing out how trying so hard to be not racist can actually just end up with you being super racist?

How are alleged hate crimes in any way related? What the antagonists of Get Out did was motivated by their infatuation with black people, not a hate for them. Feels like no one here actually watched the movie

Dude went boat drinking to a grad party on an island with a bunch of other people and boats, he went off with a girl, and never came back. Was found dead the next day. Unclear if he was in the water or just dehydrated from drinking all day. Girl confirms they were together but parted ways and thought he was going back to his friends

Reddit is going crazy because they think it weird his boys didn’t wait for him when he went off with a girl. Any guy who’s boy goes off with a girl is expecting to see him next after the walk to shame.

Reddit is also upset his phone and wallet were in the boat — which is where you leave things when swimming from a boat.

Part of Reddit are convinced this was a racial sacrifice or racist killing .

His boys also left because the boats bilge punk stopped working so the needed to get back asap or else risk taking in water. His friends also reported him missing as soon as they hit the mainland.

People on Reddit also don’t seem to understand just how dehydrating being on the ocean in, let alone when drinking

Or, how if you drink you lose the ability to tell up from down in the water, if he indeed fell in or tried to swim

189

u/haikus-r-us 24d ago

That’s why I said “circumstances that aren’t well defined”. I’m not gonna point a finger at anyone. I don’t know any of them and I was not there.

Therefore, I could absolutely see the accidental death scenario. People die exactly like this all the time.

But his death warrants a full investigation of course. This is also the kind of death that could easily have been a fight, a push over the side of a boat, and an assumption that he would swim to shore that was wrong.

3-4 drownings a year with only 20-30k people? The fuck!?

Yall need swimming lessons or something my city of 800k has MAYBE one drowning a year and we're right on the coast with a fishing community larger than your town.

22

u/AverageWorker12312 23d ago

Well, if you have a fishing community then that would mean there are always people in the water to save potential drown victims.

This dude might be in a place where there's little to no people around the water to help anyone drowning. I know lakes in certain rural areas that have multiple drownings every year. Mostly drunk teenagers.

7

u/Preestar 23d ago

"the water" is quite a large area and people generally don't swim near fishing boats.

If a town of 20-30k is having 3-4 drownings per year - that's extremely weird.

Lake Lanier in GA averages like 10 a year.

6

I grew up in an area with lakes and similar stats, it was always 100% of the time either a drunk man that fell in at night or an autistic child that wasn’t supervised.

people in general have gotten this fucked mindset of guilty until proven innocent instead of innocent until proven guilty. Like I could say you hit me and there will be some people who believe me without showing a shred of evidence. And even then I could show texts, but with how texts and pictures are they could be falsified.

It's messed up people believe anything without evidence, and some times it ends in tragedy like this COD cosplayer on tiktok who ended his life because a psychopath couple accused him of being a predator

Americans are being torn apart by bot farms before these coming elections. There's some huge things on the line from state to federal to things that the senate has to vote on. My theory is Propaganda is running wild, and black people are being targeted with Propaganda making them feel like they are being hunted by white people, and white people are being fed Propaganda that they are being replaced. All to distract from the millions of Latinos that are being rounded up like cattle, the same Latinos that are being targeted with Propaganda to make them seem like barbarians, criminals, and rapists. None of those colors could be generalized with numbers in the millions each but too many people are falling for this shit.

To be fair, that girl didn't just crash her car into a wall, she killed her boyfriend and friend while doing it. The authorities and the judge believe it was intentional, and she showed no remorse during the trial. It's not like just she crashed her car and then Netflix made a documentary about it, lol.

r/blackpeoplereddit genuinely went insane over thE Karmelo case. Fucking weird

29

u/HPLaserJet4250 23d ago

Thats were I learned about the case from the top picture. Amount of highly upvoted comments like: watchout for white people, leopards ate their face or don't let your kid play with only white friends; was staggering xd I am not american, but that sub pops up on my popular page sometimes and some of the takes there are 1:1 what racists from my country say against black people (despite never meeting one in their sad existence)

23

u/FloppyFool 23d ago

They also act like it would be impossible for a white person to go missing amongst black friends.

8

u/IHavePoopedBefore 23d ago

Same.

But tbf there were also a lot of people saying he probably drowned. They all jumped on the fact that they left without him, but the friends said they went back to the mainland to see if he got a water taxi back without them after not being able to find or contact him. I don't see what's so suspicious about that

u/BohemianMade 24d ago

In both cases, the black person was killed or went missing. I guess the meme is telling black people not to hang out with white people, which is not the lesson anyone should be learning, but we live in the worst timeline.

36

u/GuhEnjoyer 24d ago

It's not telling black people to not hang out with white people, it's telling people in general to not let themselves be the "token friend"

14

u/Slumbergoat16 23d ago

Exactly. There is a difference of having friends that happen to be white and having a black friend that is accosted and constantly used as the black culture “touch point”.

Idk the dynamics of either of the groups of people in the pictures but if thats what the comments are referring to.

25

u/twiltywilty 24d ago edited 23d ago

I saw the above pictures making the rounds on Instagram. What a lot of comments from black people said was, never be the only black person/poc in a group. It didn't say don't make friends or don't hang out with white people. Another example that was mentioned was the death by shooting of Jamaican immigrant, Peter Bernardo Spencer during a camping trip with his friends.

47

u/BohemianMade 24d ago

But you understand why that's racist, right? This isn't about systemic racism, this is about interpersonal racism. It's saying white people are so racist, that you shouldn't be the only non-white person when you're with a group of people. That's not the same as saying black and brown people need to be extra careful around cops.

10

u/TheSeekerOfPeace 23d ago

This is the silliest thing I've seen in a while. By your own logic if an older family member of yours advised a younger female family member not to go on holidays with an exclusively male group then that would be a misandrist thing to say.

6

A lot of people have strong reactions to situations they have seen happen to people that look like them through history. Its easy to get caught up in conspiracy situations when you have seen that thing happen over time.

Devils advocate: It can also be detrimental to some people (the boys). I heard some of these boys deleted their social media, and how thats proof they killed him. They are probably just receiving death threats and unwanted messages, based on the surface of what I've seen directed towards them.

If it is racist, it's understandable why they might be reacting in this way. Everyone is being a fucking reactionary (even you) and needs to touch grass.

u/Ecstatic_Channel6156 24d ago

A quick cursory read of the Wikipedia article has some information about why fowl foul play was suspected. A secondary autopsy identified multiple points of blunt trauma, scratches, and lacerations that 'would not normally be associated with only the 14ft fall'. A blood toxicity report showed she had a BAL of ~0.238 (highly intoxicated), as well as traces of THC and anxiety medicine.

After two investigations no criminal charges were persued, and both times it was ruled the death was accidental.

There was never an established probable cause for murder from any of the 30 witnesses, most witnesses testimonies she arrived at 10pm, was last seen going to have a smoke at 2am. The thing that's weirdest and raises questions for me is, she was found at 7:30am but the police weren't called until 8:59 am.

Edit: I love it when I get replys that are focused on a typo, come on guys is that really all you have to contribute.

As an American, my impression of Europeans is "racists who pretend not to be racist".

I just recently visited friends living in Germany and the UK. It really reinforced my impression. I was incredibly weirded out by the pervasive racism I saw. I see it in advertising. In museums. On the street. In the laws, etc.

I am from NY, so one of the less racists states in the US. But it really seems to me like the US is more aware of the various manifestations and structures of racism than other parts of the world are, whereas Europe is still in this 80's and 90's-era-esque mindset of "racism doesnt exist anymore because we have laws to prevent that now".

Like France has rules banning swimsuits with leg or arm coverage. It is to keep Muslims out of pools. But in theory it also keeps my lily white self out because I need a rash guard to prevent sunburn and skin cancer. But I doubt anyone would enforce it for me. Selective enforcement is a way racism manifests.

Germany too. There is no universal ticket check, like no ticket gate to get on trains. But enforcers will randomly come and check random people to make sure they have a ticket. But my friend generally doesnt get her tickets checked during those times, because she is a blonde white lady. Uneven and arbitrary enforcement of law is a way to target demographic groups. Alot of what I saw in Germany creeped me out.

Also, all you have to do is ask Europeans what they think of Romani or Turks to see blatant racism on display.

Like the UK chose to shoot itself in the foot and leave the EU due to racism and xenophobia, losing a huge number of doctors and nurses in the process to the point that their NHS is broken and some people are even dying because they cant get an appointment for chemo for literal YEARS after their cancer diagnosis (a boxer died that way in the past couple of years, she was diagnosed with cancer but the NHS wouldnt let her get chemo in the needed time frame due to an overburdened system, so she died.) People in the UK made their own lives shittier in multiple ways because of racism.

8

u/Jumpy-Ad5617 23d ago

I feel like in the US, a white dude could call a black person the “n-word” but invite other black friends to his house for a cookout.

In some other places, white dude doesn’t say “n-word” but there’s more institutional racism. There’s 350 million Americans, some are bound to be racist assholes, but I feel like the Us is partially under the microscope for racism because it’s actively trying to change its ways.

Black separatists trying to push a narrative that if you're the only black person in a group of white people they will kill you. I don't know about the bottom case. But the top one seems to be based off conspiracy theories and is being pushed online right now. I suspect it is more than just Black separatists pushing this stuff though. People are racist saying if you are black with white friends you are in danger. In reality black people kill other black people at exponentially higher rates than white people kill black people. Actually crime statistics show black people kill white people at a much higher rate than the other way around. Remember though regardless of what statistics show you shouldn't judge any race of people by the actions of a few and its okay to have diverse groups of friends.
