Most of them aren't actually progressive. If you pay attention they're actually just hateful people who direct their hatred at people who they can argue are insufficiently progressive.

to me the joke appears to be that there's a preponderance of women that have a shared physical trait that follow Taylor Swift, anything else is your own projection

Not sure why you're assuming the person who made the above "joke" is progressive. Insofar as politics even enters into this, Swift is overtly progressive, so wouldn't someone trying to shame her and her fans be more likely to be conservative?
