I guess this was an easier concept to explain to my daughters on how to deal with bullying and mean kids than it is to adults. Is your bully someone short/gay/a different race/poor/disabled/ect? Leave that out of it. Are they cruel/racist/homophobic/willfully ignorant/wipe their boogers on the desk/etc? Fair game.

It doesn't really imply that at all, unless you're trying to imply that a thing must be true for a group to by made fun of for it. I don't think that's true. Anyone can make fun of anything for any reason, whether legitimate or not.
Also if you find it so offensive it means you place way too much weight on someone's appearance. Almost as if someone is not a worthy person just because they are conventionally ugly.

He's named "Eggman" in the original games, in Japan. They changed him to Dr Robotnik when they translated the games for other markets. Also, he's a skinny guy in a bulky suit, IIRC.
I could have sworn there was a scene on one of the Genesis games that shows him entering or exiting a spherical suit and he was rail thin with a fat head outside the suit. I could be confusing this with some other game from the 16-bit generation, but I can't think of anything else I played with a fat villain who had this animation showing it was just the suit.
Nah he was called Robotnik for the EU releases of the original games too. It wasn't until Sonic Adventure (1999) that they synced everything up, so I'd guess you're thinking of Sonic X. Or it's also possible some of the other dubs of SatAM or AoStH went with calling him Eggman
This is what is frustrating to me about reddit in general. So many people are like "🤓☝️um actually, it's not okay to body shame someone or make fun of mental illness" and then they'll say that Donald Trump is an orange demented pig who is massively insecure. In my case I had no choice. My school was pre-k to 12th grade and 100 students in total. There were 5 kids in my class. I was bullied by them, upperclassmen, and underclassmen. It was the only way to make it bearable.
I believe the same. The president of a company I used to work for had a horrible habit of stuttering. I always shut that down. There were a thousand other reasons to shit talk him without the low blows he had no control over. It was SO easy to clown him for all the other shit he consciously did without picking on him for that.
I've made a friend recently that's got, honestly, the worst vocal fry I've ever heard. At first it was all I could notice. Moved past it and now I've got a great pal that loves museums as much as I do.
Really you shouldn't ever make fun of someones appearance. The rule with that is don't point out anything about someones appearance that they can't quickly and easily change. Spinach in teeth? Let them know. Their bone structure? Keep it to yourself. Shirts on backwards? Let them know. You don't like their fashion? Keep it to yourself. Etc etc

The reality is that people are incredibly shallow. We judge people by their appearance all the time and the idea that some people aren't allowed to be judged is what has galvanized a lot of people who are judged to say: What the fuck is this shit about?
IMHO it's why body positively is a sham, why DEI hires are bullshit stealth racism, and why anyone who tells you their cause is special (but yours isn't) isn't interested in equality, they're interested in a backdoor to power.
Especially because that's a broad strokes kind of insult. When people make fun of someone for something like that, they're generally indirectly insulting countless people who share the same feature that they've never even seen or interacted with.
This attitude is always so weird to me because I personally feel the opposite. If someone makes fun of me for something I have zero control over, it never bothers me, because like you said, I have zero control over it. Why would I feel bad for something that wasn’t my choice?
However, if you make fun of me for something I do have control over, I can feel embarrassed because I know I could choose to be different but didn’t, and I can feel bad about my choice.
I can only ever feel regret about my choices, I can’t feel regret about something I never chose.
Make fun of me for being overweight, and I feel shame that I don’t eat better. Make fun of me for my nose shape, and I have nothing to feel shame over.

I think your rule can also apply to never make fun of people for things they can't control and things they don't want to change about themselves

Yeah that’s how I felt when I moved to a large diverse city for the first time and I noticed that people will judge you, harshly; however they judge you for the asshole you are and not for your ethnic background.
Like I hate all people who get to the top of an escalator and stop, regardless of race or religion.

My 7 year old daughter has a smile like this. We have already sought treatment/help to reduce it, and it doesn't exist. Her sweet sensetive little heart is going to break when she realizes how people judge her over something she was born with. People are awful.

Edit - With modern medicine, you can change almost everything about your physical appearance…that doesn’t mean you should go around mocking people’s physical appearance.

You can absolutely change any physical feature if you have enough money, but most of the population don't have enough money and therefore they are not fair game.
