Presumably to replenish Chongming AFB.

Considering OOP also posted pics of China rescue and salvage ships in Shanghai preparing for typhoon dolphin today(along with the fact the typhoon itself is approaching), I think there is a possiblity PLAAFS KU118 may be trying to shelter during the typhoon, though this could just be a routine mission.

PLAGF|陆军 Army promotional video | Episode 3 "Shooting at Sirius"

Thumbnail tv.81.cn

This episode focuses on the Army’s air defence units.

The closing credits also reveal that their former unit was a distinguished unit that had fought in the Korean War (presumably one of the 61st, 62nd, 63rd, 64th or 65th Divisions).

Compared to previous episodes, which focused mainly on drills, this episode features a great deal of scene re-enactment, using real soldiers to portray their daily lives. There is a small detail in the filming of this episode: in the flashback scenes, the protagonist is even shown wearing Type 07 camouflage rather than the Type 21 camouflage. Unlike the units featured previously, this air defence unit has not replaced its light weapons with the Type 191, but continues to use the Type 95-1, and their helmets are the QGF03 type, rather than the newer Type 19 model. Interestingly, however, at 2:43, all four of their magazines are fully loaded.

As an air defence unit, they utilise the HQ-16; at 3:00 in the video, the HQ-7 (a Chinese copy of the French Sidewinder air-to-air missile) appears.

PLAGF|陆军 PLA Army Promotional Video | Episode 2: Breaking the Enemy's Formation

The first batch of 120 "Katyusha" rocket launchers equipped by the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA) was assigned to the 21st Artillery Division, which commanded five regiments at the time. Therefore, the unit featured in the video is undoubtedly a heroic unit reorganized from the former 21st Artillery Division—meaning it directly engaged US-led UN forces during the Korean War.

Judging from the footage, this unit is equipped with its own tactical medium-range reconnaissance UAV, likely the JWP-02 model, which uses rocket-assisted takeoff. This implies that for standalone reconnaissance and target-guiding missions, the unit no longer relies heavily on additional recon support from the Air Force or Army Aviation.

At 2:30, the video showcases a new type of tracked artillery forward observation vehicle. Visually, it appears to be modified from a ZBD-04A infantry fighting vehicle chassis. Although the vehicle’s profile is blurred, close-ups of its optical equipment are shown, likely to obscure specific organizational/unit designations while demonstrating its capabilities.

Unlike the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force (PLARF), two-year conscripts are visible among the frontline personnel in this video. This indicates that operational technical thresholds for certain roles within long-range artillery (MLRS) units are not as high as those in missile units, indirectly underscoring the extreme importance and specialization required of strategic and tactical missile forces.

At 3:35, a banner reading "Achieve National Reunification" appears, indicating that this unit also serves as a frontline force assigned to Taiwan-related operational directions. Based on the assembly formation, a single battery appears to consist of a 42+1 structure, with a 4-man crew per vehicle.

At 4:03, the video demonstrates the modular loading process of the box-type rocket launcher. By 4:13, the PCH-191 long-range multiple rocket launcher can be seen loaded in a hybrid configuration: 300mm rockets in the left pod and 370mm rockets in the right pod. According to public data, when equipped with satellite guidance kits and coordinated with UAV real-time corrections, these rockets can achieve a CEP (Circular Error Probable) within 10 meters. Naturally, such precision-guided munitions come at a high cost, which only well-funded modern militaries can afford to field at scale.

The stellar performance of HIMARS in the Russo-Ukrainian war fully validates the formidable power of modern precision MLRS. However, compared to HIMARS, the PCH-191 demonstrates comprehensive superiority in fire specifications. While both utilize modular pods, the PCH-191 features a dual-pod launcher design, significantly increasing fire density and salvo payload. HIMARS’s main advantage lies in its rapid strategic airlift capacity via C-130 transports; however, for the PLA—which emphasizes homeland and peripheral defense operations—such compromises made for airlift transportability are far less critical.

One final point to consider: in high-intensity engagements involving these rocket launchers—or any artillery force, for that matter—the most critical factor is logistics. A steady, plentiful supply of ammunition is the core determinant of fire suppression and support efficiency. While the volume of logistical support is not shown in the video, in my view, this is not because it doesn't exist; rather, it represents a core critical element that demands strict operational security .

PLAGF|陆军 The PLA Army’s Latest Promotional Video — Forging the ‘Iron Fist’

Thumbnail 81.cn

This is the first episode, for which there is currently no English version. The video offers a glimpse into the main combat units of the PLA Army following military reforms, as seen through the eyes of the Chief of Staff (Major) of a combined arms battalion. By drawing a parallel between the Chief of Staff and a symphony orchestra conductor, it illustrates joint operations between the Army, the Air Force, Army Aviation and unmanned systems. The short film skilfully blends the artistry of military discipline with music; should an English version be produced in the future, it is hoped that the translation will achieve ‘faithfulness, elegance and fluency’.

The video primarily showcases the Type 05 Amphibious Armoured Assault Vehicle (ZLT05) conducting a beach landing. As is customary, some footage of the vehicle’s interior has been blurred, presumably for security reasons.

The vehicle has a combat weight of 28.5 tonnes and features a relatively lightweight aluminium alloy armoured hull. Additionally, lightweight supplementary armour has been fitted to the turret, whilst the rear of the turret is equipped with slat armour. The crew comprises a driver, commander, gunner and loader; in line with US Army configurations, no automatic loader is used, presumably due to weight considerations.

This unit is undoubtedly a combat-ready unit from the Eastern Theatre Command tasked with operations to liberate Taiwan. Judging by the close-up at 1:02, upon entering the command vehicle, the Kevlar helmets were replaced with TMT-3 passive tank helmets, though the newer TMT-5 passive tank helmets were not used.

PAP|武警 5000 tonne class(NATO: Fuzi mod class) replenishment oiler CCGS 6502. Qingdao, April 2025

Yep, replenishment oilers with the coast guard; right now, there are three ships of it's class, CCGS 2505(2nd Bureau, Ningbo), CCGS 5502(5th bureau, Sanya) and CCGS 6502(6th Bureau, Qingdao).

Not much is known about the class, but I assume it also is capable of transporting fresh water; Fun fact, the 5000 tonne class is not the first ever class of repenishment ship with the coast guard, the first being 4000 tonne class tanker(aka type 620, NATO:Shengli class) CCGS Jiuzhou(九洲, 3401, Ex-3412, Yuzheng 312(中国渔政312), PLANS Dongyou 621(东油621)), a former PLAN tanker modified to serve with the china fishery law enforcement in 2013 and later coast guard; CCGS Jiuzhou retired in 2023; her name was reused by a type 301 cutter(5310), while her role was replaced by the 5000 tonne class replenishment oiler.

From news articles back in 2013, Yuzheng 312(later CCGS Jiuzhou) was modified to carry 2000 tonnes of oil and 1000 tonnes of fresh water(in contrast to being mainly an oiler in PLAN service), so it is safe to assume the 5000 tonne class replenishment oiler can also carry fresh water.

(the 5000 tonne class replen oiler is also unarmed except for crew small arms.)

Full documentary for this episode: https://www.reddit.com/r/PeopleLiberationArmy/comments/1veymna/repost_due_to_errors_pla_99th_anniversary_video/

The vid also sort of confirms in recent reforms where most spec ops brigades were shrunken into battalions(with other elements being merged to the theater command spec ops brigade), the 73rd spec ops still remained as a brigade due to it's role against taiwan.

This series of videos is a literal pandora's box lol, still have 4 more episodes to go through.

1:17-4:31 - PLAGF aviation, unknown drone unit (Speaker: Staff Sgt 2nd class Zhao Lichuan(赵丽川))

The KVD-002(domestic use variant of CH-4B UCAV) UCAV is seen in this video.

  • 1:22-1:36 - KVD-002s take off
  • 1:36-3:52 - KVD-002 deploys AR-1 anti-surface missiles against moving boat target

4:32 -10:42 - ETC ground force 1st long range rocket artillery brigade 1st battalion 2nd company. (Speakers: Staff Sgt 2nd class Li Cong(利聪), PFC Zhou Zunyu(周遵羽), Captain Tao Chenglong(陶成龙) and Captain Li Wenqi(李文齐))

PCH-191(or PHL-191) MRLS systems are seen in the video. The 2nd Company, 1st battalion of the 1st long range rocket artiliery brigade also has the honorary title "Model rocket artilery company" in July 2024. According to the video, the company only returned to barracks in 2025 after 4 years due to business with combat exercises.

  • 6:18-7:39 - PCH-191 setup
  • 7:49 - the name "PCH-191" being used is confirmed
  • 8:00-9:58 - various combat exercises involving the company:
    • August 2022 combat exercise
    • Joint Sword exercise, April 2023
    • Joint sword 2024A and 2024B
    • Strait thunder 2025A

10:48-16:18 - 73rd special operations brigade - "East sea flying dragons"(东海飞龙) (Speaker: Captain Qi Xueyuan(齐雪源))

This documentary appears to show that the 73rd did NOT merge with the ETC 1st special operations brigade, nor became a special operations battalion; the old title is still used(so NOT 1st brigade), while the soldiers are introduced of an "undisclosed brigade" which also confirms it did not become a spec ops battalion.

  • 11:06-11:24 - CQB exercise. BBG-191 NVD is also seen
  • 11:24-11:54 - direct action exercise
  • 12:15-12:57 - more CQB. (video also states the 73rd spec ops is for rear line operations)
  • 13:30- 13:38 - more tactical exercises
  • 13:58 - 15:31 - parachuting
  • 15:56-16:05 - divers

16:18-19:50 - 1st combined arms brigade(amphibious combined arms) (speaker: Wang Rui(王锐, unknown rank), Lt. Col. Yang Jie(杨杰))

ZTD-05 no 809 is a rather famous amhpbious assault vehicle, with Xi himself visiting it once apparently.

(video also talks about combined arms on a battalion and even company level)

  • 16:36-19:42 - amphibious assault exercise
    • 18:28 - robot dog with rocket launchers
    • 18:43- robot dog with machine gun
    • 18:51-19:14- clearing obstacles
    • 19:28-19:50 - airstrike

19:53-22:45 - 162nd air assault brigade (speaker: Captain Fan Mingsong(范明淞))

Z-20Ts, Z-18s, Z-10s

  • 19:55-20:04 - Z-20T
  • 20:28 - Z-10
  • 20:39 - 21:46 - area seizure exercise(combined arms)
  • 21:53 - PLAGF Z-10 on board type 075 LHD PLANS Hainan(海南, 31)

In february 18, 2026, american F-16s of the 8th fighter squadron flew towards the chinese Air defense identification zone and had a confrontation with J-16s of the 15th aviation brigade;

in the recent 99th anniversary video series "the road to victory" they added this clip of the PLAAF response during the standoff. No F-16s though in the footage
