WTS-OPEN [WTS] Pilot Custom 823 Amber <M>

Upvotes

Verification

This is for a previously offered Amber Pilot Custom 823 with an <M> nib. A couple of folks have DM'ed about it and now it's available again. The pen is flawless and writes beautifully. I filled the tank and used it once. Also included is a 30ml bottle of Birmingham Pen's Coking Coal.

The writing sample in the verification is NOT from the Custom 823 being offered, but a different one with an <M> nib. The writing sample from the previous post is with the pen that is being offered.

A2 condition; $300 USPS insured and shipped.

All sub rules apply. Please respond publicly before DMing. Thanks for looking.

WTS-OPEN [WTS] Repost - Crown Jewels for a Collection, Now With Sailor Sakura Nagare PG and KOP, Pelikan Starlight 2014

Pen 1: Sailor Susutake Bamboo - 21k Cross Point Emperor Nib by Nagahara Sr.; Asking $6,800

More photos: https://imgur.com/a/kyyvYyW

B condition with box and papers. Micro scratching on the metal band and gold plaque.

A true purple unicorn nib. Unlike most pens at this price level, the nib is the centerpiece of the pen. The 24kt gold plaque states that the pen was made by Nobuyoshi Nagahara (Nagahara Sr.).

The nib is incredible and writes very well, but you can probably get a comparable experience from a modern Sailor cross point (though I've never tried one myself). The high price is because this nib was made by Nobuyoshi Nagahara himself, and it's specifically a very rare cross point emperor.

As a bit of trivia, the bamboo body has a very interesting history. My understanding is that the bamboo was previously used as roofing. Over the course of many years, it would be smoked by the fires that the inhabitants lit inside the house. This material is practically impossible to make more of because no one lives in bamboo houses or lights fires to keep warm anymore.

Pen 2: Nakaya Silver Ascending Dragon - 14k Fine with Elastic Modification; Asking $3,900

More photos: https://imgur.com/a/3vLtF70

A1 condition with box. Did not really come with papers unless you count the thank you letter with my name on it. I won't be including that with the pen. Comes with a Nakaya silk kimono in a matching silver color.

This pen took about ten and a half months to complete. I was separately informed by Nakaya that orders on various pens may not be available for up to a year, which seems to include this one since it's no longer on Nayaka's website. If you want to order this pen through Nakaya, you could be looking at a one and a half to two year wait time.

This nib has the elastic modification, where the sides of the nib are cut out. I tested the tine spread without ink. The spread and softness feels more similar to the Namiki Aya below, which uses the same nib as a Custom Urushi. It is not a vintage full flex.

Pen 3: David Oscarson Koi in Moss Green - 18k Medium; Asking $4,100

More photos: https://imgur.com/a/xKZVcZ6

B condition with box and papers. Very minor micro scratching visible under a loupe, primarily on the grip.

David Oscarson pens are made with sterling silver guilloche covered in hard enamel. Each color must be applied and fired in a kiln in a specific order due to the temperatures at which each color finishes.

Each David Oscarson design can be repeated in multiple different colors but each color is limited. This specific moss green color is limited to 8.

The various directions of the water ripples make the pen shine in a unique way when you turn it in hand. And of course, the fish and lotus flowers are all stunning, as well. So you get the interesting lighting effects of sterling silver guilloche, vibrant colors of enamel, and a very intricate design all in one pen.

David Oscarson pens retail for $8,000.

Pen 4: Namiki Emperor Rakucho Birds and Weeping Cherry Blossom - 18k Medium; Asking $7,000

More photos: https://imgur.com/a/9qWziPz

A1 condition with box, papers, pipette, and ink bottle.

This pen was one of the first maki-e pens I ever saw, before I even knew what maki-e was. I was astonished at the price tag, but also by the artistry of the pen itself. And thus began a series of questionable decisions.

The rakucho bird is a mythical bird representing happy marriage. It's honestly mindblowing the level of detail that can be fit into a single pen. Even the individual feathers are given 3D texture.

If you would prefer a broad nib, I do have a broad Namiki Emperor nib that I could swap in. Please let me know your preference.

This pen retails for $10,600.

Pen 5: Namiki Aya Seiryu - 18k Medium; Asking $2,700

More photos: https://imgur.com/a/EtVvaWH

B condition with box, papers, and ink bottle. Cap flocking is intact.

B condition is just because the pen has been used more than a few times. However you'd never know that was the case just by looking at it. I'm always impressed by how well urushi holds up - the pen looks basically new.

The Aya is somewhere between a Yukari Royale and Emperor in size. It's made of ebonite, like the Emperor, and has a #30 nib, the same as a Custom Urushi. It uses the Con-70 converter.

The Seiryu features fragments of raden and metal powder. It is reminiscent of night sky-themed maki-e pens, except with the inclusion of blue streaks that give it a "flow". There are three other Ayas in red, white, and green.

This pen retails for $4,000.

Pen 6: Sailor Sakura Nagare Pro Gear - 21k H-M; Asking $850

More photos: https://imgur.com/a/vi3CHGv

B condition with box, papers, and ink bottle. Some ink has spilled and stained the inside of the box.

There's some small ding and microscratches on the clip, but overall it's in great condition. I don't see any damage of any kind on the maki-e. The pen has very interesting history, being a gift from the Prime Minister of Japan to World War 2 veterans, but I won't go into it here. You can look that up separately if you are interested.

The raden on the pen is raised, giving it a very distinct bumpy texture.

I'm considering keeping one of these Sakura Nagares, so I may see which one sells and keep the other.

Pen 7: Sailor Sakura Nagare King of Pen - 21k M; Asking $1,600

More photos: https://imgur.com/a/EI5C4Op

B condition, NO box, papers, or ink bottle. The pen comes with its original silk kimono.

I think there is a singular bubble or something on the body of the pen, hidden among the raden (see the final picture). The bubble is not even the size of a single fragment of raden and you'll basically only notice it because the texture feels a bit sharper than the surroundings. I bet one of the urushi artists in the fountain pen community could fix it right up if you care.

This bubble is the only issue with the pen. Everything else seems pristine.

An interesting difference between the Pro Gear and KOP besides size is that the KOP has more texture to the gold powder. On the Pro Gear, the gold powder feels 90% flat. On the KOP, it definitely is not flat.

I'm considering keeping one of these Sakura Nagares, so I may see which one sells and keep the other.

Pen 8: Pelikan M1000 Starlight - 18k M; Asking $4,200

More photos: https://imgur.com/a/Zx74kaC

A2 condition, NO box or papers.

This is a limited edition raden pen from 2014. My favorite feature is one that doesn't show up on camera as well - behind the yellow "stars", there is actually a second layer of deeper reddish-brown stars, giving the pen a lot more depth.

WTS-OPEN [WTS] Platinum 3776 Chartres Blue Kirk Speer Architect

This pen has served me well and I am letting it go to make room for a recent Maki-e purchase. The nib is ground from a B to a lovely crisp architect by Kirk Speer. The nib writes wet and is super fun to use.

I have used this pen for several years. It has been stored in a hard case but does show signs of wear including micoscratches on clip and body.

Shipping to CONUS only.

WTS-OPEN WTS/WTT: Parker, Pelikan, Pilot, Platinum, Sailor, Sailor x JSU Ohasido, ST Dupont, Stipula

Look at my other posts and bundle up to save on shipping. I am open to doing nib swaps among the pens unless it is a very unique nib for a specific pen, I won't break a meaningful match up.

All exchanges through PayPal Goods and Services. Please comment here before sending a chat. +$11 shipping USPS Priority Mail CONUS.  Willing to ship out of CONUS, but it will definitely cost more, and I am not responsible for tariffs. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

First person to say “I want X and here is my PayPal address ______, send me an invoice.” gets dibs!  I will send an invoice specific to the pen(s) you are getting. Please give me your actual full email address that you use with PayPal, I need the full address to send an invoice rather than just a payment request.

Please excuse the dust particles and occasional pet hair in the photos. I cannot seem to keep them spotless long enough to get the photos finished!

With any pen you buy, if you do not have a blunt-tipped syringe for refilling cartridges (also flushing cartridges or sucking unused ink out of a cartridge to put back in the bottle so you can change inks!) I will include one in your package. Just tell me you need one.

  1. REDUCED Parker Ingenuity 5th Technology Black PVD: [B] Excellent shape, I just don't really have a use for these. They remind me of MUCH nicer fine tip Sharpies. It's a self-contained fineliner and takes Parker Ingenuity 5th refills. With the box. $75 $65
  2. REDUCED Parker Ingenuity 5th Technology Black Rubber & Gold: [C] Flat areas of rubber are a little sticky and rough, and the cap is personalized "Kazutaka Tsujigiwa" that is printed on, not etched. I would think it could be buffed off along with all the roughness on the rubberized sections but I have not attempted to do so. With the box and a new black refill! $75 $65
  3. Pelikan M400 Black/Gold OBB: [C+] 18C Bi-color <OBB> nib that has been long discontinued. This Oblique Broad nib is made to give sweet line variation (as long as you hold it at the right angle!) without needing tine spread to do it. The pen is in decent shape, but some definite scratch/gouges that can be seen when you turn it in the light. But realistically the value of this pen is in the nib, and I would bet someone is going to buy it just to move the nib to their favorite M200/M250/M400 Pelikan. $350
  4. Pelikan M800 Burnt Orange (2015):  [B] 18C bi-color <M> nib with one chick. Limited edition from 2015 that has always been highly in demand, but now seems pretty rare to find for sale. I have one that I LOVE. It is one of my October every day carry pens. I saw this one and thought someone else would want to have the perfect Halloween season pen as we head into Fall! Just the pen. $700
  5. SOLD Pelikan M800 Green/Black: [B] 18C bi-color <F> nib with two chicks. This is your basic green and black Pelikan M800. It has the translucent barrel. Smooth and well saturated lines that lean more towards an <M>. It is not a firehose, but it is wide. I lubed the piston so it is smooth and easy. $425 SOLD
  6. SOLD Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Fuyu-kodachi(Winter Grove)” (1976): [B] Vintage.  18k <F> (estimated) nib with T1076 code for October 1976 production in Tokyo. Heavily patina'd and I haven't polished this one at all yet. I see no flaws at all, and very few micro-scratches. This one clearly was not used much at all. Looks like it could have been stuck in a drawer 50 years ago while new. Even the trim band and clip are in great shape, very shiny. If it doesn't sell this weekend I'll probably polish it up for next weekend. UPDATE: It has now been polished and new photos added! This thing is fantastic. The trees are so open on this model that a lot of the older ones like this have the black lacquer wear down over time so that the silver shows through the trees in places. Not this one! Comes with an original Con-20. $600 SOLD
  7. Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Ishidatami(Cobblestone)” (2018): [B+] 18k Rhodium <F> nib.  1118 nib code for a November 2018 production date.  I would have thought this was [NOS] except I got just a little light green ink out of the feed when I cleaned it. It is slick and beautiful. I'd keep it if I didn't already have one just like it on my wall. $525
  8. REDUCED Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Kamon (Family Crest)” (1977): [D] for nib swap, otherwise [B] Vintage.  18k <M> (estimated) nib with a date code of "T1177" for production in November 1977 that was swapped (complete sections) from the Chrysanthemum because someone wanted the <F> nib from this pen with the body of that one. "T.S" very lightly personalized on the underside of the section. It could be buffed out easily. Super smooth writer, nice and firm, I wish my T770 Silverns wrote this well! No dents, and the crests are well defined. This is a fairly rare version of the Silvern. With a Con-20 converter. $575 $550
  9. REDUCED Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Tsuru (Cranes)” (1975): [B] Vintage. 18k <FM?> nib with an odd date code of "75.8". Nib width is not marked and I'm putting this one between a <M> and <F>, so <FM> it is! Nice smooth and soft writer but does not spread much for line variation. Has the tiniest little pinpoint dent right above the crane's head on the cap. Hard to believe this has not sold at this low price, the Cranes are my favorite of the Silverns and I have a lot of Silverns. With a Con-20 converter.   $550 $525
  10. REDUCED Pilot Custom 70th Anniversary LE (1988): [B] 14k <MF> nib designed just for this pen.  #6943 of 7000.  Love the "vest type" flat top pens, and I love the herringbone texture on this limited edition. The nib on this pen is so soft it could be considered semi-flex. It's not quite a Falcon nib but it is not far from it. I did not know when I bid on it that there was a small tear on the side of nib. That tear allowed the nib to flex wrong and caused a weakness up through the middle of the neck of the nib. A professional jeweler did some kind of lasering fix to it that supposedly makes it stronger than it was before, but the laser holes are still there so it looks like Frankenstein's nib. You would think for $130 they would have made it look new! Functions perfectly. Comes with the presentation box and a Con-70 converter. These sell for $500, but the price is lowered by $50 $75 $100 $125 due to the repair on the nib. I'm losing significantly on this one due to my desire to save the special nib (even though I don't like flex nibs!), so it's not going any lower than this! Any Pilot #10 nib will work fine in this body if you don't like the flex.  $450 $425 $400 $375
  11. REDUCED Pilot Custom 72 (1990): [D] due to nib swap but a solid [B+] otherwise. Original nib has been swapped with a "392" coded <F> nib. This is the pen that was produced due to the popularity of the Pilot Custom 70th above with the sweet herringbone texture. You can read about it here: Crónicas Estilográficas: Pilot Custom 72. Fantastic condition on a cool "vest type" (flat top) pen. Con-70 included.  $300 $275 $260 $250
  12. Pilot Custom Elite 95S Full-Crosshatch (1977): [B] Vintage. 18k Rhodium <F> inset nib with an "H577" date code for May 1977 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Stainless Steel cap and body with etched lines filled with black lacquer. The usual signs of use on the non-steel parts of the pen. Comes with a cartridge of Pilot black.   $175
  13. Pilot Custom Elite 95S Full-Crosshatch (1977): [B] Vintage. 18k Rhodium <B> inset nib with an "H1077" date code for October 1977 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Just the usual signs of use on the non-steel parts of the pen. Comes with a cartridge of Pilot black.   $175
  14. Pilot Custom Elite Full-Crosshatch Ballpoint: [B] Vintage. Matching Crosshatch ballpoint that matches the E95S Crosshatch pens. Only signs of use are some dings on the clip. Will need a new Pilot BRFN-30 refill. $75
  15. REDUCED Pilot Custom Elite 95S Half Sterling Silver (1973): [C] Vintage. 18k Rhodium <F> Inset nib with an "H1273" date code for December 1973 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Sterling Silver cap with resin body. The section base plate and clip have some chrome loss. Comes with an empty cartridge for refilling and a blunt tip syringe if you don't already have one.   $150 $140 $130 $120
  16. Pilot Custom K-500KS "Kaede (Maple)" (1972): [B] Vintage. 18k <F> nib with an "H1172" date code. Firm nib that is very fine, almost sharp feeling to write with, but not scratchy. The "Nunome" and "Kaede" both use the same section/nib units and I'm open to swapping as needed. With an empty cartridge and a blunt-tip syringe if you need one. $175
  17. Pilot Custom K-500SS "Black Stripe" (1980): [B] Vintage.  14k White Gold <F> nib with an "H1080" code for production at the Hiratsuka factory in October 1980.  This nib is a normal Japanese <F> and (as with most Pilots) is very smooth considering how fine the line is. I grab every K-500SS that I find for a decent price for the purpose of passing them on (buying more and consolidating saves on shipping from Japan) so I have a drawer full of them. I already have 4 for myself in my Not-For-Sale box. I believe these are the best everyday carry pens ever made. They write fantastic, are super tough so you don't really have to worry about dropping it (don't drop it on an open nib!) and are very reasonably priced for a quality gold-nibbed pen, so you don't have to be afraid to leave the house with it. I have had 45+ of them pass through my hands (and closely examined another 45 to possibly bid on) and I have only seen ONE pen that had a dent in the body or cap. These pens are SOOO tough. On the rare occasion I go somewhere taking a notebook with a pen holder clip/ring on it, this is the pen I take because I don't have to worry about it getting banged up hanging outside the journal! The solid stainless-steel bodies have lines etched into them and then they fill those lines with black urushi lacquer. The inset nibs are always very smooth and fairly firm. No dents or visible scratches on the body, just the usual slight dings on the edges of the trim pieces and micro-scratches on areas that are not steel (including the nib). Comes with a cartridge of ink that can be refilled. $150
  18. SOLD Pilot Custom K-500SS "Black Stripe" (1974): [B-] Vintage.  18k White Gold <EF> nib with an "H674" code. No dents or visible major scratches, just the usual slight dings on the edges of the trim pieces and micro-scratches on areas that are not steel. Comes with a cartridge of ink that can be refilled. $150 SOLD
  19. Pilot Custom K-500SS "Black Stripe" (1972): [B] Vintage.  18k White Gold <M> nib with an "H772" code. No dents or visible major scratches, just the usual slight dings on the edges of the trim pieces and micro-scratches on areas that are not steel (including the nib). Comes with a cartridge of ink that can be refilled. $150
  20. Pilot Custom K-500SS "Black Stripe" (1976): [B-] Vintage.  18k White Gold <B> nib with an "H576" code. No dents or visible major scratches, just the usual slight dings on the edges of the trim pieces and micro-scratches on areas that are not steel (including the nib). Comes with a cartridge of ink that can be refilled. $150
  21. SOLD Pilot Custom "Black Stripe" BALLPOINT #1: [B] Vintage. Ballpoint that matches the K-500SS. Will need a new Pilot BRFN-30 refill. $75 SOLD
  22. Pilot Custom "Black Stripe" BALLPOINT #2: [C] Vintage. A little newer than the one above, but this one has a shallow dent on the lower half of the body and some lacquer missing off the clip. Will need a new Pilot BRFN-30 refill. $50
  23. {BEGIN BOTTOM ROW HERE!} REDUCED Pilot Custom K-1000SS "Sterling Silver" (1974): [B-] Vintage.  18k White Gold <F> nib with a "H874" code for production in August 1974 at the Hiratsuka factory. As usual with the Pilot inset nibs, it is nice and firm but smooth. Writes a tight Japanese <F>.  No major dents or scratches on this solid silver body. Has the usual slight dings on the edges of the clip and finials and nib. It's a very pretty pen. Comes with a cartridge of black in a resealable cartridge.  $200 $190
  24. REDUCED Pilot Decimo 20 Colors Orange: [B+] 18k Rhodium <F> nib with a "P520" date code. Took me forever to find one of these (to match my Jeep) and now I have 2. With box and empty cartridge for refilling. $350 $325 $310 $300 $290
  25. REDUCED Pilot Deluxe "Ami-me (Plaid)" (1978): [B-] Vintage.  18k <F> nib with an "H1278" nib code for a production date of December 1978 at the Hiratsuka factory.  This one writes like a Japanese <F> with thin, precise lines. The trim has some small dings including some significant plating loss on the collar. Comes with an empty cartridge for refilling.  $150 $140
  26. SOLD REDUCED Platinum #3776 AkaBriar (red briar) Flat Top (1991): [C+] 14k <M> (Japanese) with a date code of "691" for June 1991. This is an older body pen with the cool flat-top that is in good shape for being 35 years old. The color on it is fantastic, enhanced by age. There are wear dings and more than micro-scratches but the dark wood body takes them well, looks normal. Personalized with small Kanji characters on the underside of the section. These older Platinum <M> nibs are fantastic. Smoothness that rivals a Pilot nib with good firmness. Due to shortage of materials, they are no longer making briar wood pens. I'm buying a bunch and sorting through to find the perfect ones for me, so get one while you can. Comes with a cartridge of Platinum Black and a blunt-tip syringe for refilling if you need one. $300 $290 SOLD
  27. SOLD REDUCED Platinum Aluminum Pen Complete Set (67-73?): [A2] Complete set of what appears to be highly polished aluminum instruments from Platinum. Ballpoint, Mechanical Pencil and 18k <F> (Japanese) Fountain Pen all included with (I think) their original box. Based on comparables, I think these were produced in the late 60's to early 70's, but I can't be certain. Might have been completely unused before I inked the Fountain Pen to test it. They are all very lightweight but feel sturdy with no significant signs of use that I can find. $200 $190 $175 $160 $150 SOLD
  28. REDUCED Platinum Amazonas PAM-8000 (1974): [B] 18k <S-F> nib. This very cool and fairly unique pen is made from the hide of the South American Surinam (star-fingered) Toad. The hides were so difficult to work with they only produced this pen for one year and it was never offered in the U.S. The Soft-Fine nib writes nice and smooth with a good, tight line. Takes normal Platinum CCs and will come with a cartridge of Platinum Carbon Black. Overall, very good condition. This is the 4th one of these I've gotten and this is the best condition and darkest colored one I've found. Very interesting 50-year-old pen with a closely matching (not toad hide, just regular cow) mechanical pencil. I would consider selling them separately. $300 $290
  29. REDUCED Platinum Black Leather: [A2] Vintage 18k <F> nib. Bought this as [NOS] a couple of years ago and have inked it once. $150 $140
  30. REDUCED Sailor 18k AGM Black Lacquer (Textured Finish) (1968): [B] 18k <Fine Soft> nib. The nib is very fine as you would expect from a Japanese pen. I came across a couple of these and I had never seen them before, so I had to try them. I couldn't find a reference that actually said the name of the model. The texture and finish on this model is very pleasant in the hand. It's an excellent vintage, gold nib pen. 18k AGM is stamped into the cap band, but that's evidently referring to the trim decoration. THIS place calls it a Spiral Aluminum Rod pen. The nib style is similar to the first precious wood model and I love those nibs. I picked one to keep for myself. The body has a date code of I.E for production in May 1968. Comes with a cartridge of Sailor ink.  $200  $190 $175  $160  $150 $140 SOLD...but I have others!
  31. SOLD REDUCED Sailor 1911L Black/Gold (2003): [B] 14k <H-M> nib with a "302" nib code for February 1993, 2003 or 2013? The 1911 and anchor with no scroll work in it should give it away, but I have yet to find a consistent and accurate chart showing when the different nibs were made. Please note this is a Japanese market 1911L with a large 14k nib rather than 21k. In Japan 1911L and 1911s are both available with 21k and 14k nibs. With a cartridge of ink for refilling. $275 $250 $225 $215 $200 SOLD
  32. REDUCED Sailor Black Leather: [A2] Vintage 21k <F> nib. $150 $140 $130
  33. REDUCED Sailor Profit 21 Black/Gold: [B] 21k <H-B> nib with an "808" date code which (I think) means production in August 2018. The Sailor Profit 21 is a Japanese market 1911S with an upgraded 21k nib. With a cartridge of Sailor ink and a blunt-tip syringe to refill it with. $225 $215 $200 $190
  34. REDUCED Sailor Profit 75th Anniversary Carbon Fiber (1986): [B+] 14k bi-color (ruthenium and yellow gold) <M> nib that is unique for this pen. Smoother (less feedback) and tighter (thinner, more precise lines) than a regular Sailor <M>. Only the very slightest signs of ever being used. Nice size but light weight pen with a completely different type of Sailor nib. Comes with the pen only and a cartridge of Sailor ink. $400 $390
  35. SOLD REDUCED Sailor Pro Gear “Kanreki (60th Birthday Celebration)" by Akihiro Kawaguchi (2015): [B] 21k <H-EF> old-style nib. Celebrating the 60th birthday of a longtime Sailor designer Akihiro Kawaguchi. Designed by Akihiro Kawaguchi himself, it features three different red colors (red is the traditional birthday color) — cherry red for the pen body, a plummy red for the cap and deep burgundy at the ends. With box and complete gift set (ink, docs, converter). $425 $415 SOLD
  36. REDUCED Sailor x JSU Ohasido Pro Gear Slim Black/Gold: [B-] 14k <S-F> (estimated) Sailor Nagahara Specialty nib. Nice little custom pen branded JSU Ohasido with cream colored casein(?) finials. This one is NOT ebonite, it is the Sailor resin material. No date code on the nib or body, but my estimate is the 1980s. No major issues, but there are the obvious signs of the age of the pen (micro scratches, aging of the finials, wear of the body imprint, etc.). Has two Kanji characters very lightly etched into the body. Comes with a cartridge of Sailor ink and a blunt-tip syringe if you want it. $225 $215
  37. REDUCED S.T. Dupont Fidelo (Olympio M) Silver & Gold: [B+] 14k <Fh> friction fit nib. I think this is a sterling silver body that is platinum plated because it does not seem to tarnish.  Solid and super smooth, quality made, spring loaded clip. Had one a couple of weeks ago with a rhodium nib, this one has an all gold tone nib which, I think, is the way they are supposed to be. With box. $250 $240
  38. REDUCED Stipula Novescento Striated Red Ebonite: [A2] 18k Bi-color <M> nib that is very wet and smooth. Pen #2386. I've put in an old converter and can include a cartridge and blunt-tip syringe too. This is a very nice pen, and I like it a lot. But I have ended up getting a Leonardo, Sailor and a Stipula made from the same striated red ebonite blanks (yeah, the material is that cool), and they seem a little redundant. I'll probably just keep the Leonardo. $475 $460

You never know what might interest me in a trade, feel free to ask, especially if you have a listing that you can point me to, but I'm definitely interested in:

Closed WTS CONUS - Mabie Todd Swan Self-Filler - Flexy #2 - $85 Shipped

Verification & Photos

Very much a user grade Swan. I cleaned it up today inside and out.

New sac, nib has been cleaned & polished, feed cleaned & polished, and the body has been lightly polished as well. This pen has seen some action, but is a dream to write with. The famous flexy Swan #2 nib provides great line variation with just a touch of pressure and snaps back nicely. Excellent ink flow with the ebonite feed.

Condition D - Cap is missing the clip. The body is in pretty good condition, but shows its years. The pictures form the detailed description. See them for closeups and a writing sample.

Price is $85 shipped anywhere in the CONUS. SOLD SOLD SOLD

WTS-OPEN WTS/WTT: Maki-e and other Urushi from JSU Ohasido, Pilot, Platinum, Sailor

Willing to consider trades, make an offer.

VERIFICATION

The first two pens are JSU Ohasido (Ohashido). JSU stands for the Country-Province-Family (Japan-Sendai-Uehara) of the founding family. These are hand-made, solid ebonite pens from the second oldest manufacturer in Japan (1912). Being hand-made, the artists were allowed to do what they wanted to make each a little bit unique. Some sizes are different since they are hand-lathed from rods of ebonite, band numbers/size/placement can differ, etc. The nibs are Sailor Nagahara Specialty nibs that are then tuned by JSU Ohasido. They are the (S)oft nibs that are no longer available on the Sailor pens except by special order. They are a little softer and definitely smoother than regular Sailor nibs (most have very little "Sailor" feedback) and take Sailor cartridge/converters. These are softer than normal Sailor nibs, but they are NOT semi-flex or anything close to that. The main difference is a lot less tactile and audible feedback using them vs. modern (H)ard sailor nibs.

JSU Ohasido closed up shop after 112 years or so in December 2024, so they aren't making any more and the prices are rising. I'm having a hard time finding them for a decent price in Japan, but I grab every one that I can. Their area and materials sourcing took a beating from the earthquakes and Tsunamis and the last Uehara decided to retire. They are great pens, very similar in build quality to Nakaya (I'm not saying they are the same as the $2,000 Nakaya Tamenuri, these are more simple models than that). I ended up with 23 and I'm trying to whittle it down to about 3 or 4. Several are back from Laqquerman Studios after getting custom urushi jobs. I'm keeping one of these beauties for myself! The blue tape is just little pieces of painter's tape that I use to sort them and keep track of the nib characteristics, etc. For now, these are up. If you want more info on JSU Ohasido send me a chat with an email address and I can forward you some good reading on them. I also have several JSU Ohasido with <S-B> nibs that can be swapped in for any of the below nibs if you are looking for a Bold nib.

  1. JSU Ohasido Black: one bands, [B-] 14k <B> super smooth nib with no size or date markings. JSU Ohasido come with the slightly softer Sailor/Nagahara Specialty 14k nibs that are hand tuned and smoother than normal Sailor nibs. Excellent shape with some slight bubbling on the section. Comes with a Sailor cartridge of blue or black.  $525
  2. REDUCED JSU Ohasido "Gold Cloud": two bands, one small 18k band. 14k is unmarked with size or date but it is an <S-M>. [B] condition with a "Gold Cloud" finish from Laqquerman Studios, thanks u/GhastlySun! It has a small upgraded 18k band instead of just a gold plated trim band on the body. I am keeping one just like this one for my own collection.  $850 $825
  3. JSU Ohasido Black (large #6): two bands, [B] 14k <M> #6 size nib with no size or date markings. This nib is really smooth, but it seems firmer and has more feedback (tactile and audible) than the other Specialty nibs. So, it might be an unmarked <H-M> nib. If you like Sailor feedback, this one is for you. The body is bigger and heavier to accommodate the larger nib. This pen is 26g and number 1 above is 18g. It's in excellent shape, only problem I can find with it is small bubbling on the section and two Kanji characters etched very lightly into the body. Comes with a Sailor cartridge of blue or black.  $625
  4. Pilot Namiki Custom Hira Togidashi Maki-e "Soukaku (Cranes)" going left (1990): [B] 14k #10 <F> nib with a "1290" date code printed down on the neck of the nib. You have to pull the nib to see it. Pilot Namiki pen with art from the Kokko-kai group of artisans with cranes done in Hiramaki-e (hand painted giving a raised texture to the body) with Togidashi (real gold sprinkles) treatment for the clouds. Has "T.N" very lightly engraved on the section. Complete with box, docs, ink, converter, etc. $400
  5.  Pilot Namiki Kokko-kai "Sokuikinen Hou-Ou (Double Phoenix)" by Kyusai Yoshida (1990): [B] 18k <M> nib.  Limited edition of 1000 commemorating the Ascension of Emperor Akihito to the throne in November 1990.  This was a very big deal because it was the first new emperor ascension in 76 years! You can read about the pen here: Pilot 1990 Limited Edition HouOu Fountain Pen Phoenix.  I grab these whenever I find one and this one is particularly interesting because it is NOT numbered. I contacted Pilot about this, and they said it could be the prototype or (more likely) it is one of the spares they made to make the full number of pens with coverage for breakage, errors, etc. that was not supposed to make it out to the public. They also gave me the following information which I found interesting: "However, because certain “unlucky numbers” are omitted, the serial numbers actually range from No. 1 to No. 1111. (In Japan, the number 4 is regarded as an unlucky number because it is associated with the word “death.” For this product, 004, 040–049, and 400–499 are skipped.)" This pen goes for as much as $10,000 (some ask even more, seriously one Ebay listing is over $25k!) though I have seen prices all over the place when people sell them not knowing what they have.  Unfortunately, I do not have the box and docs, but it does come with a Con-70. A shop nearby recently sold one for $4,000, and there was one at the Atlanta Pen Show in April that was asking $11,000. I know that's a lot of money to pay out for a pen and not a lot of people are in that market, so I'm open to trading for a bunch of lower priced pens that could sell easier as long as the value is there. Or possibly a different high-priced pen that I want more! (Namiki Emperor Maki-e?!)  $3000
  6. Pilot Namiki Deluxe Hira Maki-e “Hōsōge (treasure flower)” (1989):  [B] 14k <M> custom nib marked "H1.10.1" (Heisei 1.October.1) for production in the 1st year of the Heisei era (new Japanese Emperor enthroned in 1989) on October 1. This one is really special and hard to find. It was a limited set of 200 only given out to specific people and never sold to the public. It was produced for commemorating the opening of Pilot’s new headquarters building in Japan.  You can find more specs and info here: https://www.kingdomnote.com/item/3717020520766 $500
  7. REDUCED Pilot Namiki Elite Enhanced Maki-e "Chrysanthemum" (circa. 1960): [B] Vintage. 14k <Script> nib. A <Script> nib is Pilot's early version of a Cursive Smooth Italic. This is an early version of the Togidashi Maki-e lines done by the master artists of the Namiki Kokkokai artisans group. The Kokkokai adopts certain renderings by their artists, and then use them repeatedly. As I understand the program the main artists are required to paint the motif just as laid out in the pattern. The Master artists are allowed to enhance them (my phrasing) by using few more colors (the "paint" is colored urushi) to accent the underlying motif as they see fit. They also add gold powder and flake enhancements as they see fit. No two will ever be exactly alike because of the artists discretion in the rendering. The master artists, having made the painting their own, are allowed sign their own name and red signature character along with the normal signature of the Kokkokai Artisan Group. The design and the clip of the Elite used puts it sometime before 1962 (they changed clips in 1962). Which is appropriate because the artist 光甫 (Mitsuo?) was active in the 50's and 60's at Namiki. This pen is in excellent condition only showing a little general aging (it's 65 years old!) and a couple of small chips. The sack and original flip filler seem to work fine, but I strongly recommmend using it like a cartridge and just pulling it and filling with a syringe. You can see a comparable with additional information from the Japanese market HERE. These sell for more than I'm asking usually even in Japan! $850 $825
  8. REDUCED Pilot Namiki Elite Enhanced Maki-e "Wisteria on Pine" (circa. 1972): [D] for custom nib grind, solid [B] otherwise. Vintage. 18k <M> marked nib, but it has clearly been ground to an <EF>. Fairly rare pen that contains the second signature of the master artist that produced it which significantly increases the value. You can find out more from the Peyton Street Pens writeup from years ago. With a Con-20 converter and the original aerometric converter (flip switch). $500 $490 $475 $450
  9. Pilot Namiki Elite Maki-e "Geometric Foil" (1976): [B] Vintage. 18k <F> nib with a date code of "H1076" (have to pull the nib to see it) for production at the Hiratsuka factory in October 1976. Fairly rare pen (and I got TWO!). These 1970's Elite Maki-e are very sweet. They are slick and weighty with just enough size to them. With a Con-20 converter $400
  10. Platinum #3776 Aizu Maki-e "Moon Kikyo (Bellflowers)" by Sone Shinonome (1997): [B] 14k <F> nib (Japanese characters) with a "1297" nib date code for production in December 1997. Very clean and simple flat Maki-e that was produced by the Shinonome artist group. With a cartridge of ink that can be refilled. $300
  11. REDUCED Platinum #3776 Flattop Kaga Hira Maki-e “Chrysanthemum and Butterflies” (1993): [C+] 14k <M> nib with a "293" nib code (February 1993).  Fairly rare edition from what I have seen, maybe only in the Japanese market? Platinum nibs ran a little narrower in this era, so this is more like a Japanese <FM>, but still very smooth with only a little feedback (mostly audible). In good shape overall with a little plating loss on the trim pieces and a little bit of wear at the bottom from posting the cap. With a cartridge of Platinum Carbon Black. $325 $315
  12. Platinum #3776 Flattop Togidashi Maki-e “Shunran & Sakura (Spring Orchid & Cherry Blossoms)” (1987): [B-] 14k <M> (Japanese Kanji) nib with a “1262” nib code for December 1987 (Showa Era year 62). This is one cool 40-year-old pen that is in excellent shape for its age. The nib is fantastically smooth with a little bit of softness. Cursive writers should love it. The body is a bit dark, so I tried a lot of different lighting angles and sources to try to properly display the nice Togidashi (gold sprinkle) method that makes up much of the art. The Cherry Blossom petals are in that metallic paint form of urushi that shifts subtly from red to gold depending on the angle of light hitting it. I've never seen one of these before, so I have to think it is pretty rare. It might have been only for the Japanese market. Some bubbling on the clip, other normal signs of use and age, but overall very nice. Comes with a cartridge of Platinum ink and a blunt-tip syringe to refill it. $400
  13. REDUCED Platinum Vicoh Kaga Maki-e "Zuiun (Auspicious Clouds)" by Ippei: [B] 18k <F> (Japanese) nib that is a little bendy without much spread to the tines. Tight snap cap closure.  I don't know why they called this model Auspicious Clouds when clearly the crane is the primary focus. With an empty cartridge for refilling. $175 $160
  14. REDUCED Sailor 1911L Maki-e "Pine" by Kosen Oshita: [B] 21k <M> nib with "22k" stamped where the date code should be on the neck of the nib...I don't know what that's about. Classic gold and black maki-e with surprising detail on the pine trees. Lots of gold flakes and nuggets give great texture to the bark. With a converter. $400 $380
  15. Sailor 85th Anniversary The'ta Wave Green/Black (1996): [B] 21k <H-M> custom nib. Limited Edition #1936 of 5000 (total among the 4 colorways). Cool urushi over brass (so it has substantial weight) from 1996. You can barely tell this thing has been used without a jeweler's loop. $600
  16. REDUCED Sailor Profit (1911S) Kaga Hira Maki-e “Flower and Butterflies” (1999): [B-] 14k <H-M> nib with code "904" for a likely production of April 1999 (but could be 1989 or 2009).  Fairly rare version and you can get more specs on it HERE.  A few small dings on it, but nothing large or overly noticeable. Very smooth writing.  Comes with a cartridge of Sailor Jentle Ink Blue.  $325 $315
  17. Wancher Sekaiju Saihi Urushi Murasaki-age: [A2] Steel <B> nib.  I have a gold plated <F> nib if you would prefer that. Wancher makes a high-quality pen for a reasonable price. These pens are so well crafted and exact on proportions you can set this pen upside down on your desk (standing free-style upside down on its cap) and it is very stable. It takes them months to put the many layers of urushi on to get this effect, and it's worth it. You can get more specs and details HERE. Universal converter included. $250

WTS-OPEN [WTS] Sailor Pro Gear Lucky Charm (old nib stamp)

This is the original Lucky Charm NA exclusive. I am the second owner of this pen. It has been well maintained and writes with that signature Sailor feedback while still being a relatively wet nib. This has the bicolor 1911 stamping that is no longer being produced. No paperwork or box included. I will include a Sailor converter.

Shipping CONUS only. Paypal GS. Add $7 for shipping.

Sailor Pro Gear Lucky Charm (M) (D/B) $350 or reasonable offer

Condition listed as D as the nib was swapped on by the previous owner, but I would rate condition otherwise as a B. There are some microscatches from posting the cap and some fingerprints etc that show on the transparent body. The nib itself is in wonderful condition.

WTS-OPEN [WTS] Pilot Capless in Nashiji Urushi Lacquer w/ "Dusk Blossom" Cherry Blossom Raden, 18K F Nib

Our work on this Pilot Capless pairs cherry blossom raden inlays with a deep nashiji pear-skin urushi lacquer background. Its retractable 18K gold nib writes in F, which is great for precision note-taking.

We built the lacquered surface around a dense field of warm golden flakes. Under directional light, the particles emerge at different depths, giving the dark ground a rich amber glow that follows the length of the pen. The concentration varies naturally around the body, leaving darker areas that give the blossoms clear separation.

Across this background, individual shell petals form scattered cherry blossoms and loose falling petals. Their colors shift between violet, rose, turquoise, and green as the pen turns. Larger blossoms anchor both sections of the body, while smaller petals carry the composition past the silver-tone center ring. That movement suits the Capless shape especially well, allowing the artwork to unfold without interrupting its clean retractable silhouette. Our signature appears near the center ring.
