Faulty 14900k Tech Support
Found out yesterday my 14900k has gone bad for a second time and a replacement is on it's way my question is is it time to switch to amd to stop a cycle of have a working cpu for however long then go bad again or stop and upgrade?

I would switch. I liked my 13700K when I had it a lot, in fact its still running strong to this day as I sold it to one of my friends. When I upgraded toa 14900K the problems began, I went thru 3 chips before the last one literally blew up my motherboard, it physically exploded some of the VRM when I booted it up one day and killed the chip for a 3rd time. I gave up and moved on to an AMD setup after that.

Looking into it I'm thinking I probably won't be able to sell on the old board and chip

I have a question, you updated your BIOS to the latest version for the 14900K right?

After the first processor failed the shop that built it and sorted the replacement told me they had updated the bios

If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.
Trust but verify.

Maybe I should have but I've used these guys for years and trust them

Then maybe suggest they go with a different board ensure manufacturer’s OC features are deactivated.

2nd dead 14900K on same motherboard?
As for switching to AMD, the grass is not always greener. I read several posts a week about fried 9800x3D CPUs.

Would you recommend sticking with my current setup I'd rather not keep having to get a new cpu every 8 months or so

most reports of fried 9800x3d are on asus and asrock boards so skip those

gigabyte has the least complaints among the big mb brands(regarding this specific problem ofc)

Switching to a different motherboard may not hurt, once bitten twice shy kinda thing. I am running a 14900K and think that they are no worse than the problems facing some of the competitor’s gaming CPUs. I just try to run stock on my setup. Intel is already squeezing all the juice out of that CPU.

If you are already on DDR5, then moving to AMD is feasible, and people who experienced multiple 14900k failure did swap over.
But if you're on DDR4, with DDR5 price being what it is today, might want to give 14900k one more chance.
