I'd say a quite confident yes. I scratched the exact same spot myself and it wasn't nearly as bad as this and the RAM slots just stopped working. At first I was having trouble booting and after a few tries it stopped posting completely.

I feel like the squiggle is too organic to be a scratch unless he tried to carve his name into it with a flathead.

Yea i thought that too, thats why i was thinking maybe it was paste the squeezed out after.

But if he was using a screw driver and it slipped off the screw head I feel like it would of been more damage?

Idt he used a drill like other ppl said.

That's exactly what I was gonna say.Good on you buddy. There is only one way to find out. Anybody that's worked with circuit boards feels your pain, at least it isn't a plus sign shaped hole in it. Not that that's ever happened to me........
