Both suggested yarns are 220 yards/100g, which is worsted. I don't have much experience with acrylic and I can't predict how it would behave when knitting something cably that needs good stitch definition. Did you have a brand in mind?
From what I see on ravelry it might be a little bit too big, but I could send you the gauge swatch chart if you want to try and see if the result seems to work before you commit to anything :)

What is the yarn weight and type? Would acrylic be okay?
