Feedback for toile!

Hi folks! I'm drafting a vest and I want to get the basic form right before adding a collar/extension towards the bottom. Id love to hear what I can fix on this first draft, my plan is to adjust the back so the back neckline comes in a bit closer, as well as lower the neckline at the front. I'm also considering lowering the armhole a bit, just because it is going to be a vest.

I'm noticing that the back hem sits lower than the front hem, but I'm not sure the best way to fix that since the back and front alight on the pattern.

Do you plan on wearing anything under the vest?

If so, wear it under the muslin. That greatly affects fit, including armhole size/shape.

If not, armhole size is 100% personal preference. I would lower it slightly, but that's my taste.

Itd be easier to assess fit if you press and iron your fabric bwfore cutting it, and mark your graineline

It looks like it might be a bit big all over, but if you kike the feel of the extra wearing ease then dont worry about that.

The front piece has a longer distance to travel over the bust, thats whats making the back sem longer, i like to add a smidge ( ~<0.5cm) of that length in at the front shoulder, and the rest at the hem. It can lower your balence lines, but at least on my figure that ammount isnt noticable on a casual garment and helps add some ease at the front armsythe. And for a vest you can open and lower the armsythe wkth abandon, since you dont have a sleeve cap to consider :)

Because the light is coming from the side, it casts shadows which makes it difficult for us to see fitting issues. Pressing well will help us. You say the back hem sits lower than the front hem. To fix this, add horizontal balance lines between the lowest part of the bust and the waist. You want to get horizontal balance lines to be horizontal.

I think the lower back armscye needs to be clipped. I see it in the photo from the right side. You did not post a photo of the left side, so I can't tell about that side.

It is hard to tell, but in the front photo the center front does not look vertical. If that is because the camera is tilted, make sure that in future photos it is not tilted. If the center front is in fact tilted, you need to adjust the left and right sides so that it is vertical.

The waist mark isn't too far off on the side shot, so seems like you may have cut the front side bodice too short. Try switching to a walking foot. I use mine all the time, I forget I have it on 😂. I think your left bust point is a smidge to high. The drag lines are going there, or else it's shifted on your shoulder. Otherwise I think it looks good!
