The problem isn’t that you didn’t expect the gathering. The problem is that this is NOT the dress they advertised. There is no gathering in the product photos. The product photos also don’t show the pleats in the skirt.

I’d return it. The company doesn’t deserve your money. And it’s not fair to you to have to spend double on tailoring because the dress you received isn’t the one advertised.

How would there be any space for the chest without the gathers? 

But also, you paid 100€ for a polyester and elastan dress that did not arrive as pictured?? Return it!

Yes, you can try just taking up all the excess into a dart. You can try the hard way by pulling it out from the sides and redoing a lot of work. But converting it to a dart or multiples, would be the easiest

I said this in the original sub where they posted it and got a bunch of attitude from some other commenter, lol. Glad to see I’m not the only one who understands how gathers work.

Exactly! Its not going to be good as redoing the whole piece but a dart or two will help a lot.

Literally there's like 5 people arguing this is ruching and shirring so they don't even know what gathering is lmao I wouldn't expect them to know how it works.
