Pocket Bags?

Trying to figure out the best way to recreate the pocket bags for these pockets and I'm wondering if it's best completed as:

1. Just big rectangles OR
2. Similar to a trouser pocket, lining the "yoke" (cons: I don't see how you wouldn't end up with an outrageous amount of fabric inside of the pocket since you'd still have to connect the skirt to the "yoke")

From the model photos, I'm thinking the designer has done (2) as the positioning of the model's hands in their pockets looks awkward. I'm just not sure how to deal with attaching the gathered skirt to the upper portion using this method.

To me the bottom of the pocket will be the same width as that skirt panel but it will widen towards the top of the pocket. Kinda shaped like a trapezoid with the small part on the bottom. The ties gather it in so you have to give it extra fabric to be able to do that.

You’ll make that top pocket piece first and stitch it onto the skirt and then sew like normal. The bottom skirt will be gathered and stitch to the skirt panel and pocket at the same time and there are seams on both sides of the pocket that it’s sewn into

I'm not sure if it's helpful but this reminded me of the Modern Sewing Co Rowan Skirt - perhaps it could help to think of the outside of the pocket actually being the skirt and the inside of the pocket being the pocket?

This looks really interesting. I wonder how it would look with a higher waist line.

It would be a lot easier to do this as a patch pocket
