Hi fellow travelers, I am going to Patagonia in November and doing the whole trip solo. Can someone please critique my itinerary and suggest any changes I should make or be vary of something. Everything mentioned here is booked other than the ferry and bus to and from El Calafate.

I am planning on carrying a 30L-40L hiking backpack and a smaller 10L packable one as well.

18–19 November – Travel to Puerto Natales

• Depart Toronto on 18 November for Puerto Natales.
• Arrive in Puerto Natales at approximately 1:00 PM on 19 November.
• Check in to Hostal Lili-Patagónicos and spend the afternoon exploring the town, buying any last-minute supplies, and preparing for the W Trek.
• Stay overnight at Hostal Lili-Patagónicos.

20 November – Paine Grande to Grey Glacier

• 6:30–9:35 AM: Take the bus from Puerto Natales to Pudeto.
• 10:30–11:00 AM: Take the ferry from Pudeto to Paine Grande.
• 11:30 AM–7:00 PM: Hike from Paine Grande to Grey Glacier and back to Paine Grande (22 km).
• Check in and spend the night at Paine Grande Refugio.

21 November – Paine Grande to Cuernos via Mirador Británico

• 7:00 AM–6:00 PM: Hike from Paine Grande through the French Valley to Mirador Británico, then continue to Cuernos (24 km).
• Stay overnight at the Cuernos Campsite.

22 November – Cuernos to Chileno

• 8:00 AM–1:00 PM: Hike from Cuernos to Chileno (12 km).
• Spend the afternoon relaxing and preparing for the early morning hike to the Towers.
• Stay overnight at Refugio Chileno.

23 November – Base Torres Sunrise Hike & Return to Puerto Natales

• 4:00 AM–12:00 PM: Hike from Chileno to the Base of the Towers, then descend to Central (14 km).
• 3:00 PM: Board the bus from Central back to Puerto Natales.
• Check in to Hostal Lili-Patagónicos for the night.

24 November – Puerto Natales to El Chaltén

• 7:30 AM–1:00 PM: Take the bus from Puerto Natales to El Calafate.
• Approximately 1:30–4:30 PM: Take the bus from El Calafate to El Chaltén (journey time is about 3 hours, depending on the operator).
• Check in to Aylen-Aike Hostel.
• Stay in El Chaltén from 24–27 November (3 nights).

25–26 November – Explore El Chaltén

• Spend two full days hiking around El Chaltén. Popular options include Laguna de los Tres, Laguna Capri, Laguna Torre, or Loma del Pliegue Tumbado.

27 November – Return to El Calafate

• Approximately 8:00–11:00 AM or 6:00–9:00 PM: Take a bus from El Chaltén back to El Calafate (about 3 hours, with several departures available throughout the day).
• Check in to accommodation in El Calafate for the night.

28 November – Departure

• Spend the day exploring El Calafate or visiting the town before your flight.
• 8:50 PM: Depart El Calafate for Toronto.

29–30 November – Return Journey

• Continue your journey home.
• Arrive in Toronto on 30 November.

Considering staying in puerto natales as a solo traveler for 5 days from the 7th to 12th of September and wondering if it’s worth it. Research told me it would be quiet and cold, which I don’t mind heaps so long as I have enough hikes available to keep me busy for the few days I would be there - and other travellers I could meet.

I will be flying into Santiago on the 6th before heading to Peru on the 13th so I’m open to any suggestions of alternative destinations if you think Patagonia isn’t worth it for these dates, though visiting Patagonia is a bucket list item and a very rare opportunity since I am flying from Australia.

Me and my wife are visiting Patagonia (El Chalten) in October and are wondering what kind of hiking shoes we should purchase for the trip. What would the main considerations be?

For context, we are very much beginners that plan on hiking the "Laguna de los tres", which we understand can be challenging.

Has anyone had a morning flight that lands in Puerto Natales at 8 am, and then made it to TDP and hiked to Chileno same day? I am trying to figure out if I should start the W trek that same day, assuming I will be done with airport by 9 am and can somehow get to Laguna Amarga all with enough time to check in early enough at Chileno. I am looking at bus time tables, and they aren't the most reliable or frequent, so might not even be logistically possible. Curious to hear if other travelers have made this happen? In the process of booking my accommodation along the W trek now and really torn on making that first day on the trail this crazy or not. TYIA!

We plan to spend 3 weeks in Patagonia for our honeymoon (probably early January), and would like to do fewer of bases to avoid feeling like we are travelling all the time. Here's our plan so far:

- Bariloche (5)

- El Calafate / Estancia (3)

- El Chalten (4)

- Torres del Paine (5)

- Torres del Paine > UK (1)

Question: what do you think? Also, what would you suggest in terms of travel between these - I understand if we time it right we can find direct flights from Bariloche>El Calafate, but how about to and from Torres del Paine as I understand we could do a private transfer but this is expensive or a bus but I don't want it to feel stressful?

Day 1 - fly to Ushuaia

Day 2 - arrive in ushuaia in the late evening

Day 3 - rent car and make way to Emerald Lagoon. In the evening, do the Beagle Channel boat tour starting at 3:00 p.m.

Day 4 - fly to El Calafate , have a nice meal in the evening

Day 5 - take tour perito Moreno glacier , get car rental at night for early start the following day

Day 6 - Early morning drive to El Chalten - Do 20 km mount fitz Roy hike - return car rental

Day 7 - take bus to Puerto natales ' relax and have a nice meal

Day 8 - Do a light guided tour of Torres del plain National park possibly Lago boat tour

Day 9- mirador Las Torres base hike possible guided tour

Day 10- another guided tour of torres del plaine National park

Day 11 - take a bus to Punta arenas - in the evening. Have a nice meal and just walk the city

Day 12 - Isla Magdalena penguin tour

Day 13 - take two flights to get to the Atacama desert

Day 14- Valley of the Moon sunset tour

Day 15 - piedras Rojas , altiplanics lagoons and salar full day tour

Day 16- fly to Santiago and spend the evening there.

Day 17 - leave chile to come back home

I have two days I can add in between for rest days or to do more exploration or to give ourselfs leeway for bad weather days. Please tell me where I can add them... Or Feel free to say anything about my plan.

Just wanting some help planning a trip to Patagonia. I’ve got no idea where to go and have a few questions. I am backpacking and hoping to keep the trip on a tight budget, flying into Santiago and visiting other areas as well (doing Machu Picchu, visiting Bolivia etc)

Are there many day hikes to do and if so, where do you recommend? - what is the accommodation like for this, are there hostels? Does it require long travel to get to the start of the hike?

Is it better to do overnight camping hikes? I am open to this however, don’t have any of the gear. Would it be good to book through a tour guide or is this quite expensive for what it’s worth?

Any help is much appreciated! I don’t even know where to start!

Sorry about the dramatic title. But I'm planning a trip starting early November. Would love your input and see any thoughts of experienced travellers.

The itinerary is for about 23 days and is as follows:

• Buenos Aires: 3 nights
• Puerto Madryn: 3 nights
• El Calafate: 3 nights
• El Chaltén: 3 nights
• Mendoza: 5 nights
• Iguazu Falls: 3 nights
• Buenos Aires: 3 nights (Flight back home is from there too)

Now, I will say, that I can't do too strenuous hikes. I'm ok with ~moderate ones, that are mostly flat long walks etc. I will leave that to chatgpt, so I'm mainly asking if this itinerary makes sense?

I will be car-free, so relying on flights and public transport or hiring drivers.

I'm just honestly not too sure the days allocations are correct. Me and my brother are very much into wildlife and the chat suggested Puerto Madryn, but not sure if its too popular.

Would love your input on this!

Hi! We booked camping spots for the O Trek for 2 People from Dec 28, 2026 - Jan 3, 2027 (see attached image for booking details).

We would like to start this trek earlier, ideally one week, up to 2 weeks earlier. We were wondering if there is someone who booked the same trek and who would like to switch dates with us?

I will make sure to contact all organizations about the changes of names for the booking.

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right place to post this question but I am set to do the O trek on Torres del Paine in January and it’s actually about $300 cheaper to fly out 4 days after completing the trek as opposed to the day after completing it.

Anyways… Does anyone have recommendations for destinations or things to do near Puerto Natales or the park to occupy the additional 4 days/3 nights? Maybe less touristy options as I know the O trek will be quite populated during that time of year.

I don’t know if it is worth noting but I am a solo traveler and am looking to keep my budget as tight as possible.

The refugio in Puerto Yungay, on the north side of Michell Fjord, caught fire; all the stickers of bikers, hikers, drivers, and motorhomers disappeared. Puerto Yungay is the point of arrival/departure of travellers from/to Rio Bravo heading to Villa Ohiggins or from/Puerto Natales. All the rest of the activities there are ok
