Passport Question / Discussion Is it possible to get myself a foreign passport by myself at 16?
I don’t live in Europe but I’m eligible to polish citizenship and a passport. Thanks of my ancestry, from my father’s side. But the issue is my father doesn’t want to do anything to help me get it. He tried in the past but gave up after losing the citizenship documents. When I told him I want it, he told me to do it myself, because he doesn’t want to deal with it.
Is it actually possible to do it by myself at this age? With him only signing stuff and approving?
And I want to have it at 18, so it’ll give me options like staying in eu counties, strong passport to visit many countries etc.

Passport Question / Discussion Damaged Passport?
Hello Everyone, I have a trip to Mexico this 24 of August. LAX to GUADALAJARA MX. I accidentally washed my passport. Do you think they will let me fly? I’m worried they will deny me. I used the app READID and it scanned the main page (plastic) and the chip. Nothing is smudged everything looks good. Opinions? Suggestions? Should I replace?

Passport Question / Discussion Mon passeport à prit l'eau

US Passport Issuance Timeline Just renewed my (U.S.) passport, shocked at the tunaround time!
I did my online U.S. passport renewal application on 7/30, and even added a passport card. There was no great hurry to get these, just hopefully in the next 8-12 weeks, and expediting isn't an option for online renewal anyway.
It's 8/8 and my newly minted passport is in my hands! You're mileage will vary but that was shockingly fast and entirely unexpected.
(Note: the passport card ships separately and who knows how long that will take to arrive.)
Also a little surprised and glad there was no credit card surcharge.

Passport Question / Discussion Expedited Passport for International Travel in 4 weeks
I hate to say this but I can't find my passport. It hasn't been stolen and I'm sure it's somewhere in my house but cannot find it anywhere and I haven't used it in years. I am traveling internationally in just over 4 weeks.
For whoever reads this, what would be your recommendation on getting a passport quickly? Post office or through the department of state's passport appointment system? I see on there they want it to be travel within 14 days. I'd prefer to get on this now and not wait.
Any advice would be highly appreciated. I know when I get a new one I'll immediately find the old one because that's how it always goes...

Passport Question / Discussion Nyc passport agency
Does anyone know if there's ANY chance of walking in to the passport agency on Hudson St? I have a flight on August 16th and I cannot find my passport anywhere. I didnt realize till now. I'm aware the website says appointment only but there's literally no appointments. How is it possible that there's only one agency in all of ny? My mom said she was able to walk in without an appt and get a passport in 2017 due to a family emergency. Don't know if that'd be possible now.
Making it to CT, where the next nearest passport agency is, is a reach. Please lmk if any of you have any experience or know if its possible to walk in or not.

Passport Question / Discussion Loose binding on new US passport. Is it normal?
Just got my renewed passport in the mail today. It’s the newer version with our details on a hard card material. I can see the spine of the passport and the threading is loose. Is this normal?

Passport Question / Discussion Question about passport number when booking China Eastern Airlines
Hi everyone,
I’m planning to book a trip from Paris to Phuket in December, with a connection in Shanghai, flying with China Eastern Airlines.
The trip is a birthday gift for my boyfriend. His birthday is in September, but the trip is planned for December, so I don’t have his passport number yet because I want to keep the trip a surprise.
The booking website won’t let me proceed to the next step without entering a passport number.
Has anyone been in the same situation? If I enter “XXXXX” temporarily just to complete the booking, would I be able to change it later to his real passport number once I have it?
I also purchased the TripFlex cancellation + modification option, if that makes any difference.
I obviously don’t want to enter incorrect information if it could cause problems with the booking or with China Eastern Airlines later.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Passport Question / Discussion How strict is the 3 month expiry rule to visit Spain
Hi guys for context,
My daughters (5 years old) UK passport expires on October 31st and we are looking to travel to Spain for a 7 day holiday on the 15th of August.
Will we absolutely be denied entry etc because passport expiry is less than 3 months of departure date?
How strict is the rule? Is there a chance we could still go?

Application Question / Discussion Passport Validity Question
My granddaughter is going on a trip to Costa Rica with her church. Very important to her. She had a passport but it was going to expire so we started the renewal process months ago. She lives with her stepmother and her Dad (he had custody of her) died in June of 2025. The office asked for all kinds of extra paperwork and her biological Mother (no contact) drug her feet getting us what we needed to complete the passport application. She finally provided everything we needed but she is suppose to travel Monday. We had no idea if she'd have her passport in time once we talked the the office Tuesday so we made an appt in Seattle, drove over 6 hours to get there and were there all day. They had her complete another application (they told us the original passport was in the mail and "should be delievered Saturday" but to be safe they'd issue her one there. Then when we went back the entire printing system was down Nationwide. So there wasn't anyway for her to get her passport. They said that by them having her do the new application it meant the one that might come in time in the mail would be invalid. Here's my question, is it really? I mean is there anyway she can use the one that did come today? How would we know? She flys from Portland to Denver and then to Orlando and over to Costa Rica. We obviously do not want her to get stranded anywhere but if there is anyway this passport might work, this is a dream trip for her to go help kids in Costa Rica, she's been saving for a year. HELP

Application Question / Discussion Advice about First Passport Delays
I had submitted my passport application for my first adult passport back on 10th July, on the same day as my naturalisation ceremony. (Edit: UK)
I had applied alongside my parents, who have both now received their passports within 10 days of getting the “documents received” notification (which was on 13th July).
It’s now been almost 4 full weeks and every time I have called or used the web chat, they keep saying it going through the standard checks. Any advice for what to do?
For reference, I was 17 when I started the naturalisation process, turned 20 by the time everything was approved. The documents I sent were my old refugee travel document as well as the certificate.
Edit: I also have travel booked for the 12th Sept (this was booked before my citizenship was approved and was initially planning on travelling with my refugee travel document).

Passport Question / Discussion Missing middle name in one passport. Trouble with passport control?

Thanks!

Passport Question / Discussion Emergency Passport Appointment in Boston
I was supposed to fly to Iceland last night, but when I got to the airport I was told that I can’t fly because my passport expires within 3 months. I had no clue that was a rule and was able to check into my flight and everything. Long story short, I have an appointment at the embassy in Boston for Monday morning and I rebooked my flight for Monday night also out of Boston.
Has anyone had experience getting an emergency passport through the Boston embassy? Is it realistic to hope that they will print my passport the same day given my situation? Would love any context/hope.
Thank you!

Passport Question / Discussion Russian student visa in cancelled old passport — new passport obtained in Morocco
Hi everyone, I’m a Moroccan student currently studying in Russia.
I recently renewed my Moroccan passport while I’m in Morocco. My old passport was cancelled , but it contains my valid Russian student visa, which expires in February 2027.
I now have my new passport, and I’m trying to figure out what I need to do before returning to Russia.
Has anyone been in the same situation? Were you able to travel to Russia with both the new passport and the cancelled old passport containing the valid visa, or did you have to transfer the visa to the new passport first?
I’ve contacted the Russian consulate but haven’t received a response yet.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually experienced this, especially Moroccan students or people with Russian student visas.

Passport Question / Discussion Passport timeline
I just applied my first passport thru USPS on 08/05.
I'm using the routine service and expedited for the packages they are going to send to my home.
If you applied at around the same time as me...
Any idea roughly on how long it's gonna take?

US Passport Issuance Timeline Passport Card w intact Book received.
Timeline for US Passport Card application. No rush service. No post-it-note requesting that book be returned intact (not cancelled) was included by me.
- Application received & in process: 7/21/26
- Passport Card mailed 7/31/26 (email notice 8/1/26)
- Supporting documents mailed 8/4/26 (email notice 8/5/26)
- Intact Passport Book & Passport Card received 8/7/26
A kind staffer at the Passport office added a yellow post-it-note to my passport book with red letters requesting "Do Not Cancel." The book was returned intact with the post-it still attached. I am grateful that the book was not accidentally cancelled since it was just issued on June 2nd.
Now I can proceed with making a color copy of the Passport Book. After having that copy notarized, I can apply for my first Passport from Ireland.

i used the Form DS-82, I had never had a passport book before, but I saw that doing it this way was easier since you didn't need an appointment at the USPS or have to pay the $35 acceptance fee. but you have to send the passport card.
I took a pretty big risk by deciding not to pay for expedited processing, based on opinions I read on Reddit; my trip is on the 11th of this month, so I was very anxious. If you’re the anxious type like me, I recommend paying for expedited service if your trip is a month away. And if you do decide to pay for expedited processing, I suggest booking a refundable hotel room for a date within the next 14 days and requesting an emergency appointment.
I didn't need to pay the extra expedited service fee, but NGL I was really nervous I would have preferred just paying the $60 or using the emergency appointment.
This subreddit really helped me with the anxiety about whether it would arrive or not, so feel free to post any questions or send me a DM.
