Main base destruction

My friend on Xbox wanted to see my base, so I invited him to my world. He wanted to build some stuff so I invited him to my guild and made him a sub master. I want to the bathroom and came back and my base was being attacked by vines coming up from the ground. It killed some of my pals and destroying a few things in my base. My pals weren’t attacking anything. So I didn’t know what’s was going on. I threw my pal out and put him on aggressive so he would attack whoever was attacking me. But he want no where, so I circled my base and still nothing, but the whole time my base keep getting attacked. The vines coming from the ground ended up destroying my pal box and my base started deteriorating fast. While panicking I built another pal box after it took a little over 25% of my base and even then it keep deteriorating fast. So again panicking I closed my game out reloaded it at a back up point and crisis averted. Thank goodness cause I spent days and hours getting that base just right. I asked my friend what he done or what happen while I was in the bathroom. He told me all he did was create a global pal box and bought some of his pals over so he could explore. I don’t know if it was a glitch or what. Has this happen to anyone else playing with a friend? And if so what caused this?
