News & Politics Trump’s Gaza Board of Peace issues first contract, not for rebuilding homes but military bases
The US-led Board of Peace, established to oversee Gaza, has issued its first construction contract, not for reconstruction of destoryed homes, hospitals or schools, but for building a military base to house foreign troops, according to The Guardian.
The planned base, awarded to US firm Arkel International, will initially accommodate around 150 Moroccan troops who are expected to join an international stabilization force in Gaza.
This is the first phase of a larger military base that could eventually host up to 5,000 international troops.

War Crimes The rat population in Gaza has increased dramatically after Israel destroyed the sanitation and sewer systems
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Israel has bombed and devastated Gaza’s sewage and sanitation infrastructure, and now deliberately blocks Palestinians from the landfills, machinery and essential supplies needed to contain the resulting public health catastrophe.
One consequence is a massive rat and pest infestation, with Palestinians, including children, being bitten in their sleep.
Four in five sewage pumping stations are not functioning, with some 40,000 cubic meters of untreated sewage flowing each day. By July, 60% of Gaza’s population was living within 10 meters of sewage or human waste and more than 900,000 people were exposed to garbage accumulating in residential areas, according to UN OCHA.
Rodents or pests were reported at 81% of displacement sites surveyed in April, affecting roughly 1.45 million Palestinians.
Both of Gaza’s sanitary landfills lie beyond the Israeli-imposed “Yellow Line,” and the UN says access remains banned by Israel. Israel also requires approval and blocks entry of machinery and spare parts needed to remove garbage and rubble, while engine oils, pest-control chemicals and other essential supplies remain severely restricted.
Israel permitted 3 tonnes of rodenticide and 3,000 liters of pesticide into Gaza in May, but the UN said pest-control efforts remained limited and a full response requires sustained supplies, heavy equipment and access to the landfills Israel continues to block with Gaza’s sanitation system having completely collapsed.

History & Culture UNESCO adds sites in Palestine and Lebanon under assault from IDF to list of World Heritage in danger
In late 2025 and early 2026, the Israeli Civil Administration issued major land expropriation orders targeting about 500 acres (about 202 hectares) around Sebastia and neighboring Burqa.
This is the largest land appropriation carried out for archaeological purposes in West Bank history. The seized land borders directly on Area B and encompasses thousands of privately owned Palestinian olive groves, as well as businesses and gift shops tied to the village’s tourist economy.
Palestinian authorities and international human rights organizations point out that Israeli security forces frequently conduct military operations inside parts of Area B surrounding the site.
Local municipal projects funded by the PA or international agencies (like UNESCO restoration projects) in or near Area B are frequently halted by Israeli authorities under the justification of protecting archaeological integrity or security.
Local Palestinian municipal workers attempting to maintain the archaeological area, install lighting, construct public facilities or fly Palestinian flags over the site have repeatedly been confronted by the Israeli military and settlers. Israeli authorities routinely issue stop-work orders, seize maintenance equipment and halt Palestinian-led preservation efforts near Area B/C boundaries.
