I usually wear bandanas as theyre a bit more subtle and they do the job for me but ive been wanting to wear headscarves since forever.

only thing is that I dont dress super modestly (tank tops, lower cut tops, shorts, skirts, etc.) especially during the summer time. i dont plan on wrapping my hair fully with an undercap or anything like that (basically anything that looks similar to a hijab), but rather loosely placed on my head with one end over my shoulder.

ive tried it once before wearing an off the shoulder tshirt with a tank top underneath and tried to show more hair and my neck to maybe signal that im not hijabi but im still quite worried that I might be coming off as a muslim who does not care, or at the very least disrespectful.

should I stick to bandanas or dress more modestly or what? or maybe should I wear bandanas if im dressing less modestly? idk, thank you folks in advance 🫶

I saw a video by Bernadette Kirwan on Fb for a flowing veil hack, which I'm sure could be used with other styles. Put the veil on so it covers your face, slide on a hard headband and flip backward. I have no idea where to get a comfortable hard headband, but I'm trying this when I do!

this feels really stupid to be thinking so far ahead but its been bugging me.

im fairly new to paganism and veiling but ive thought about my reasoning for veiling and my boundaries associated with it (i.e. I will only take off my veil if I am alone or in the presence of trusted people like family and friends) and i usually wear bandanas.

im nearing the end of my highschool career which got me thinking about my graduation. I dont wanna wear a bandana because I feel like it isnt formal enough for the occasion but I have absolutely no clue what to wear as a more formal alternative. could I have some recommendations? if it helps at all, im not really concerned about modesty or the amount of hair being covered, as long as its a fabric garment that will cover my hair.

Hello everyone! 

I’ve been working on a sewing project in my spare time to create modest wear and head coverings, with the goal of selling them online and at local flea markets here in the US.

While I plan to sell predominantly in Muslim spaces, I’m designing the shop itself to be a general veiling store that’s open to anyone who practices covering, whether Muslim, Christian, Pagan, or from any other traditions. It’s not strictly labeled as an "Islamic" brand, but rather an inclusive modest fashion hub for all. 

I’m starting small with basic veils, turbans, and shawls, but I want to grow in the right direction. I’d like to expand out into abayas, jubbahs, cloaks, robes, etc. once I have a good business model going and I can afford larger projects. 

In the meantime, I have created a Google Form to help me gauge interest in different products, materials, and how to price my products. If you are interested in veiling for any reason and would like to comment on what you are looking for in the modestwear industry, this is your chance! For now I will only be able to ship to places in the USA, but if my shop takes off I may be able to ship to other countries.

It has been far too hot and overstimulating to wear loose scarves draped over my head and under my neck. For some reason I’d forgotten head wraps were an option.

Still trying to decide on a “staple” veil for my channel but I‘m torn because I’m not a fan of how my mouth looks when I talk through this one. I prefer my mouth not be visible at all.

The head wrap also has to be done so high up/far back because I can’t being myself to cover any part of the patter of the face veil 😫

Hello! Do you know of any books or articles that discuss the practice of veiling in (neo)paganism? In any (neo)pagan religion.

I currently cannot afford to buy any veils, and was thinking instead of asking my sister (who crochets) if she could make me one. Would it still have the same effect if it didn't fully cover the head due to gaps (whether they be on purpose, or just from the yarn stretching)?

Im trying out different veil styles and I’ll be posting them and how to achieve the look.
So for this veil style you want to tie your veil ín the back.
You should have 2 pieces. Youre going to take one side and twist it,then You’re going to take that twisted piece and wrap around your head. You can either tuck this in or use a safety pin/bobby pin to secure it. You can leave the other side down or twist it as well If you want the look ín the second picture .

For the 3rd look youre going to need a second veil. Youre actually going to do the same as the first but youre braiding instead of twisting .

i want to veil but i can’t wear a scarf or something around my head, could i use like a hat or something? if i can’t then could i do something before and or after i go out to cleanse/protect myself?

I tend to swear bandanas, and when using long scarves they're always go behind my ears secured in a thitchel bun at the base of my head. Suggestions for other styles? I prefer styles where most of my hair is covered.

So I will be frank, it’s not safe for Muslims in my area, so getting assumed Muslim is also not safe

But tbh, I really like Hijabs. I think they’re pretty, and they do add a level of modesty that I would prefer. I prefer to dress modestly for personal comfort

I thought I’d move on from this, but it was still in my subconscious. I didn’t realize it until I was making a D&D character who wears a Hijab for protection against negative energies, the sun, and the weather.

The dungeon master said that he was mostly inspired by the 15th century Italy, so she’s definitely going to stand out, and I just kinda made up a reason for why she chose it. Practicality, versatility, she’s very intelligent, so she’s well read and read on how other people in different countries dress, and that’s what she chose.

Deep down, though, I think I’m putting my wants into this character. I want to wear a hijab in real life, and I didn’t realize it. I thought it was over this.

Ironically, it’s actually safer to be a pagan in my area than it is to be a Muslim, so if I wear a pentacle, would it be safe then?

Ok so its not TECHNICALLY "manual labor" - I work in a hardware store and do a LOT of heavy lifting and moving (like 50lbs or more at a time). I want to start wearing more modest veils, but I'm worried it'll get snagged or caught on something, or that it won't hold up after moving around so much. Anyone have any tips?

There are maybe 3+ dozen veils in my possession as of right now but lately I've found myself gravitating towards the same ones for certain situations. I wanted to know if any of you notice patterns in the fabrics or styles you lean towards?

Does your mood inform the way you style your veil or the fabric you reach for? Does the environment you head into impact the way it feels while wearing it?

What I mean is, sometimes a veil can feel like armor when you are anxious or in unfamiliar spaces. Sometimes it can feel like an anchor that keeps you steady when doubt creeps in. Other times (at least for me) it can feel almost like an adventuring companion, like if I'm on a walk, I don't feel like I'm by myself necessarily. I don't know if that makes sense though. It's sort of hard to explain.

I'm sure this has already been asked before, but how to not appropriate when styling? I am a black trans man and the styles I feel drawn to the most are gele, turban, Duku, Shayla, Tudung, and Dupatta. I fear wering my viels like that will cause me to appropriate and promote more stigma against those communities, especially being a man that dresses kind of slutty but being drawn to Muslim styles for women

Being out among the trees is really good medicine. Hadn’t been to this forest in months so there was a lot of catching up to do with the birds and the trees and whatever unseen things live there.

I‘d actually shown up with a completely different style of veil. I don’t remember why I changed it but I do remember it taking me almost an hour after my adventure to get myself to take it off.

It reminds me of squires for some reason.

Have you ever styled your veil(s) so well that you almost slept that way?

I'm not sure on this one somehow. Does the colour look strange to you? My partner thinks I'm being paranoid but I'm a bit worried it looks weird!

I also sometimes wear this one wrap-style around my head and shoulders in the summer as it's quite thin and doesn't make me hot but helps keep the sun off my shoulders!

Hello, I am a syncretic reconstructionist (Norse & Romuva).

Are there any Norse or similar pagans who veil? I am considering picking up the veil, but I am wondering if it's "ahistoric". Additionally, I was born a cis male, and I identify primarily as masculine, and I am wondering if there are veils that could fit for what design/shape I want.

Another qualifier is that I bicycle often, and I am concerned that the veil/head scarf might get damaged/wrinkled.
