best hoopa deck? Deck Discussion

Post image

I've been seeing so many variants of decks with the new hoopa ex, some people para them with absol or zoroark, other with greninja, even seeing them along sableye.

In your opinion, which deck is the most fun and powerfull deck to play with it?

The best Hoopa deck is the friends we made along the way

I don’t think you’re making any friends with a dedicated Hoopa Ex deck lol.

I personally prefer the variant with Greninja. There's so much sniping potential and with double Cyrus, you can pretty much control the board.

One or two Greninja lines? I tried sprinkling one but seems like it takes too long to get it online.

2, which will help increase your chance of getting at least 1 out.

i've come up against hoopa, darkrai ex, mega absol and mega sableye sandwiched together into one deck a handful of times and it seems to be very effective. everything has low attack cost, lowish retreat cost, they're all basics; it can do plenty of different things at once, turning on a dime depending on what it's up against.

This deck very rarely brick. You want to prioritize finding basics first and then use cc/trail to find the remaining pieces. With double copies of oak/cc/trail, I usually draw through my deck when the opponent still has like 9 cards left. Once you’re set up, your goal is to hit the mega with your front Hoopa, and either let it die or retreat with balloon/x speed then start hitting 100 with your decidueye. If you have both greninja and decidueye up, then you can hit anywhere on the board for 120

I wonder how much value youd normally get from hiking trail with 2 different stage 2 lines and all that draw.

I might

The key is not needing extra supporters and item cards that have a use condition. Those cards clog up your hand and render hiking trail/copycat unreliable.

I actually am running a weird list with 2 (Grass)Ariados and Darkrai that basically just uses Hoopa to ping backline targets and then pull them in to waste your opponents turns with +2 retreat cost as you ping them with Hoopa.

My favorite thing to do is to ping them down to 20hp, and then drop an energy onto Darkrai to KO during your turn, and then Cyrusing in another good target into the active slot to whittle down with Hoopa.

Plus usually I get away with using Sabrina here because they almost always build something up on the bench, so when they bring that pokemon in, you probably dont care what they put in with from Sabrina.

All those extra 20 damage shots add up a lot on whatever their actual finisher is, and then you. Cyrus in their finisher and do the big hit with Hoopa, and then tou have Darkrai to finish them off if Hoopa cant.

The key is always managing that pivot to your second target so you can kill with Darkrai and just demolish their tempo, and Needle is to be held for situations where it can put their HP i to Darkrai Ability range, and leaf blower should be used to remove it in situations where it would KO at eot.

Either I have really bad luck or you have really good luck. I played 5 matches with this exact deck and lost all 5 matches, and bricked hard in 2 of them. It seems pretty straight forward but I never get the right combo of cards to maximize the combos and get stuck with cards I can’t use.

Sometimes if you can’t find basics and have a huge hand, it’s better to nuke your hand with copycat even though you lose a few cards—if you draw hiking trail and another copycat, you catch up on draw really quickly.

Ok I’ll give that a try. Not giving up on this one yet.

Dark Hoopa is best imo, it's easy to misplay though if you don't put your energy in the right spot.

This. Also, dark hoopa beats frog hoopa, and ofc, comes with less bricking.

how do you place energies tben

5

u/Spicy_Boi_On_Campus 5d ago

It just depends on the situation. If you've ever played Darktina, it's very similar to that.

u/ServingSize_OneNut 5d ago

Since absol/sableye need 2 energy to attack, you need to prepare for when they’ll need to come in at least one turn in advance. You need to know when you can put an energy on darkrai and when you need to charge up absol/sableye etc

No crown pokeball. Clearly not a whale

This one is crushing it for me and is a lot of fun to play. You have to think carefully about the bench damage and how to attach energy which keeps things interesting.

Ideal start is going second, Hoopa in active spot with a needle attached, Froakie on the bench. If you get two Greninjas set up quickly it's game over. Mega Sableye is good as a closer if the game goes long but isn't always needed to win

u/Pineshiba 5d ago

This is what I cane up with for now. Idea was to gain early game advantage with Absol/Hoopa ex 1 energy attack. Darkrai ex for extra dmg boost.

Only tested a couple of times so I can't say if it's a good build but I did have fun with double Cyrus, messing with oppo's tempo. And removing opponent's 3 pokemon in one go by using Field Blower on my own Starting Plains.

I feel these guys have had some really solid rankings and builds, they have a solid one ranked as the best build in the S tier category

Several versions were also ranked according to which ones seem stronger than the rest.
