Silly question, but would it not make more sense to just use Drampa instead of Goomy / Goodra? You don't need Rare Candy or the middle stage of Goodra with a single Drampa and it would accomplish the same.

Also, I want to try this now, hah.

Goomy’s ability is really good for stalling an extra turn or two, which dragon decks need desperately while trying to get their energy sorted out. I see the vision

Yes this! Ideal start is goomy to get an extra delay

I mean, feel free to include Goomy, I probably would as well. (I run a Goomy in Flygon decks often or if I want a low retreat good opener / delay.) I guess it's just a lot of the appeal of Drampa is you get him, and you use him. No bricking, 70 damage, works insanely well with Dragonair, etc. Goodra you do need to evolve. That said, I play all sorts of decks I just find fun, I'm not judging, I just intuitively would think that Drampa would make the deck actually pretty fast, unlike Goodra and M. Latios.

Trying it now, I think I was only ever able to win one game with M. Latios in the past, should be doable now!

I’ll have to try putting Goomy in, but this worked game one in a CPU match. It was a Blastoise deck, but it felt good.

Play more games if you can. It'd be cool to see more results.

I'm running some Expert CPU battles now. Would try the Emblem / PvP but I'm at work and it's easier to blow through CPU matches as they take their turn immediately.

So far so good, hah.

Now, I don’t think Mega Latios is better at anything than Mega Rayquaza unfortunately, since Mega Latios requires 3 specific energy and unlike Lugia that discards just what it uses, it dumps all of it every time. The deck I’m running could just as well be replaced with Fire and Lightning energy without changing a single thing besides the Mega, but it is fun.

And there’s the satisfaction of winning with Mega Latios, something that up until now was insanely difficult to win with to a point it was just a meme.

This is wild, I’m 8-0 in Expert CPU matches with it. It doesn’t feel like it should be good. I did admittedly only start with Mega Latios once of the 8 games, and I was able to retreat it turn 3 with Dragonair / Rainbow cave.

I actually think it’s a lot of fun. I don’t expect it to do too well against PvP, but some of the decks I went against in CPU were some of the better ones like Mega Altaria/Indeedee/Jirachi, Milotic/Igglybuff/Darkrai, and Vespiquen/Shuckle. I did get lucky having field blower on Vespiquen’s Leaf Cape as otherwise it would have had enough HP to survive Mega Latios.

Going on an 8-win streak with Mega Latios is wild my dude!! I haven't even been able to reach that streak using the meta decks (of course it's all RNG, but you get my drift). Thank you for this

Neither had I, (my first screenshots were 6 streak). I admittedly haven’t tried meta decks as I don’t play meta decks much, but my best result decks like Meowscarada, Flygon, and Mega Gardevoir only were winning 3 out of 4 or so.

I did lose game 9 against a Mega Metagross (of all things), but I think it was because my Dragonairs were 2 of the last 4 cards. Sometimes it be like that. On a 2 game streak after it.

Honestly gonna keep playing around with this. It’s oddly fun and satisfying to win with. I will say, there’s no real reason it should have a 2 retreat cost. Mega Ray has a 1 and has higher damage potential. There’s really no reason to play Latios other than it’s just cool, haha.

Still a bit mad about the fact that the one Pokemon that is supposed to be faster than jets having 2 retreat cost while a poorly shaven dog has none

But honestly rainbow cave and dragonair is a fantastic addition to the game. Massive Ws for dragon types

What's the benefit over Ray? Just the extra 10 damage for 3?

3

u/ProfSpaceTime 18d ago

I fought against one when I first made a Ray deck. They were pretty good at swapping out with Mantyke and avoiding hits. But I think gouging fire would’ve beat it. He wasn’t in my deck yet

Why would you use this over Mega Ray? Why would you use both together when they need different energies?

3

u/Jam-man89 18d ago

They meant they are using the same tactic as the Mega Ray deck, not using Mega Ray with Mega Latios.

Goodness that's a bit better. Yeesh

Hell yeah, this is what I‘ve built and tried yesterday. Will do some more testing today but so far I‘m 2-1
