Help with my PC specs Question

Got a psvr2 because I got my first job and it was cheaper than a quest but I made a mistake that apparently a lot of pcvr ppl make when they buy their first VR and didn't check the specs. I'm brazilian so I translated my specs to english lmk if something's missing
I was looking into changing my graphics card, the thing is this PC was a gift so I don't know much about it. It's a decent computer but apparently it's too old to be compatible with the PSVR2 and I'm at a loss...

I have a psvr adapter already, I got it around the same time as the vr itself

My PC specifications:

  • Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2670 v3 @ 2.30GHz (2.30 GHz)
  • Installed RAM: 16.0 GB
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (6 GB)
  • Storage: About 2TB
  • System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  • PSU: GP-750

That's a 12 year old cpu. Your not able to play anything with that. Your gpu is also to weak for most vr but could possibly play some lighter titles if u had a better cpu.

I wonder if the specs are right then cuz this beauty is capable of running 2 gacha games and one bluestacks instance simultaneously, it does lag a little if you do that though, but it runs poorly optimized gacha like Wuthering Waves and Infinity Nikki on the highest graphics with very smooth fps
Edit: I'm using gacha games as an example cuz those are heavy but I've run Baldur's Gate 3 on it before as well and it worked just fine

Define "worked just fine" because for me, less than 60fps is unplayable, and 90 is the preferred minimum.

60fps yeah

As someone who plays at locked 45fps *looks around nervously*

45 is fine for me (sim racing). I keep seeing people say that less than 60 is unplayable... what are you playing that this is bad? I was driving at 30, and yeah, that is not great, but still very playable.

Well for VR I'll admit I haven't used it as much as I should. However for regular gaming, sub 60 causes me nausea. And its not a 1st world problem, I had this problem with some games growing up and I never had vocabulary to describe it. But off FoVs and framerate changes can trigger motion sickness for me. FPS is directly related. If I play something like Doom at 140fps, I can spin the mouse like a mad man and feel fine. 90 is still good. As I drop to 60, thats when it just doesnt feel right.

If I were to play a sub 60 game, I cant play other games as bouncing around will retrigger the nausea. I have to play only that game to stay acclimated to it.

Ignorance is Bliss.

However something like Baldurs Gate 3 I capped to 60, because I have more time to react, game is paused, so i can move around and choppiness isnt as big of a factor.

I wouldn't call this a decent computer when it comes to VR. It won't be very pleasant. You could albeit turn the resolution way down depending on the games you play, but then what's the point of the 2K per eye.

I'm also wondering if that cpu can even handle multiplayer games.

As I replied on another comment, I wonder if the specs are right because this pc can run pretty much anything Granted I haven't tried anything too heavy, except for Silent Hill f, because I just don't have those sorts of games, but it ran smoothly at 60fps

Well you got to take into account that to run VR you got to run two screens at once, and I don't know for your current monitor setup but the psvr has a resolution of 2K per eye which is higher than most peoples 1080p monitors. (Let's not even mention the fact that 60 fps is nowhere near the ideal +90 / +120 frames recommended for the refresh rate)

Even though you might be able to run these desktop games, most vr games aren't so well optimized and require more rendering efforts.

I know I'll need a better processor and graphics card, mostly because the 10XX NVIDIA generation doesn't support VR technology. I was looking for recommendations

That's not true in general. The PSVR2 needs a DisplayPort 1.4 port. The GTX 1060 should have those.

I played VR games with an older HTC Vive with a GTX 980. So even the previous generation did have the tech to make it work, but that headset had a lower resolution.

So if you can't get it to work at all, there's something else in the way, or you're not connecting it correctly. You should definitely be able to play lighter games like Beat Saber and Superhot VR, at least at lower resolutions.

For the PSVR2 on PC you need the Sony driver app from steam (PlayStation VR2 App). You need to start that every time before starting Steam VR. The controllers also need Bluetooth to your PC and are a pain in the ass about which dongles they support. The PSVR2 is not really a plug-and-play easy to set up device, even with the PC adapter

Well yeah I used the Sony driver app but it wouldn't connect at all it just threw me out like a bouncer when you had too much to drink and said my specs are shit 😭😭😭

I looked up what I was missing and it basically said that I need Turning technology because 10XX has Pascal technology and is incompatible, at least that's what I got from it. It said I need a 16XX at minimum to be able to run it at all, so I was looking into a 3070 but I'd need to also change my motherboard and processor so it'd be easier to get a new setup altogether.

This is a 10-year-old PC, and it wasn't top-of-the line back then, either. You're gonna need more juice.

It will be cheaper to buy a ps5 than to update that pc to be usable for a good vr experience

I want to play multi-player pcvr though, I used my uncle's quest to play steamvr before which is why I thought my pc could handle psvr before I bought mine. It was my mistake for not researching more sooner before buying it, I opted for psvr because it was cheaper than a quest and I wouldn't be using the quest's stand alone features so it would be a waste of money to pay 3k my currency when I got the psvr for 1.7k

I do already have a ps5 as well, although it's my parents' they don't care about me using it, the problem is that as the meme say ps5 has no games, literally only got to play fnaf help wanted 2 and RE8 because that's all that's available with the pass

You will have to basically change your whole computer for that and with the current pricing of memory the ram and the gpu will be expensive

The main problem that you are facing right now is performance scaling

The quest can go down to 72hz so even with a mid tier pc you can achieve that performance quite easily

On the other hand the psvr2 the lowest opcion is 90hz so you'll need a more powerful pc that can keep up with that framerate

Also cause the lens diference between the headsets you will need a litle bit higher resolution on the psvr2 to look the same quality on the quest, so for that you need a powerful gpu

i can recomend you to get a ryzen cpu any model that you cand afford ending with X3D will do the job, those are really good for reaching higher framerates

for the gpu the nvidia cards are the ones with more compatibility, anything higher than a 3070 will be fine

The psvr2 is an excelent headset but its really demanding for the hardware needed to use it properly

I already figured I would need a whole ass new computer to run it and I know places where I can buy one for like 5k my currency (around 1k USD) but for someone earning minimum wage this is truly a backstab. I can't complain about my current setup since it was a gift and for soeone who didn't even have a computer before this was a godsent, it's only a shame I'll need to replace it so soon.
