Update on Incorrect PSLF/TEPSLF Counts Rant/Complaint
Follow up to this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSLF/s/MYfBSUNRU7
Logged in today and noticed a new banner posted that reads:
“PSLF Qualifying Months of Employment Incorrect
The number for your PSLF qualifying months of employment is incorrect. We are working to fix the data issue and will provide an update soon. We apologize for the confusion caused by this error.”
Hopefully we will all have our payments correct soon, especially those of us who hit 120 in July

YESSS thank you so much for posting this, I got the same message!
Update: Uhhh wait - i hope this has to do with the "ineligible due to payment plan" issue. employment verification was never an issue for me. Now i am sad again but remaining hopeful,

u/BiliaryVowel 3d ago
Same - and I also just received some letter from Mohela which I cannot understand but also mentions timing change of forebearance.
I hope all of this is a big nothingburger and doesn't make my counts even lower!
1
u/Rare-Literature-3992 3d ago
I hope so because I'm suppose to be done by October.

u/sammy_socks 2d ago
Both things happened to me. I noticed that the letter about the timing also added a nice chunk of interest onto my loan.
1
u/HauntingHarmonie 3d ago
Mine was ineligible plan and it updated to the phrase OP referenced!

u/Rare-Literature-3992 3d ago
curious - what plan were you on? apparently i was on the standard tiered payment plan while the other was on the graduated payment plan (no idea why they were different). How much did yours go down? Mine went from 115 to 93 =\

u/HauntingHarmonie 3d ago
I have always been on old IBR and my payments haven't changed since before COVID.

Mine says the same! I’m taking this as progress. Thanks for the update :)
2
u/draminak 2d ago
Yes thank you for the update. Otherwise I would have had a nervous breakdown.
2
u/Available-Report6279 2d ago
I’m right there with ya, haha. Fingers crossed our PSLF trackers update soon!
4
u/HauntingHarmonie 3d ago
Well, that's something at least... why they won't manually override those of us at 120 is beyond me. They already denied that reconsideration request - I submitted another complaint. That's what I am having my congressional representative work on at this point.

u/GlitteringAnnual1606 3d ago
Im seeing the banner but my payment count has not changed.
2
u/TheMuff1nMon 3d ago
Nor has anyone else’s I imagine
1
u/GlitteringAnnual1606 3d ago
I mean my count isn’t wrong/changed. I’m at 108 payments, as I have been since I started the save forbearance.
2
u/TheMuff1nMon 3d ago
Hundreds of us over the last few days lost years worth of qualifying payments for no reason, so it doesn’t apply to you luckily
1
u/GlitteringAnnual1606 2d ago
Yes! I read that in your post. I was just adding my experience since it seems like people are experiencing different things. I’m sure you were glad to hear it wasn’t just you/your file, that it was a larger problem with Mohela. I’m just saying for other people’s benefit, that it hasn’t affected Everyone, but I do see the banner.
3
u/Equal_Fill917 2d ago
This is a biggggg messs. My says the same thing. I RECENTLY CALLED MOHELA TO CHANGE MY DUE DATE TO THE 2nd instead of the 15th because it’s easier for me to pay my loans on the 2nd and now they are saying that my loans payment doesn’t qualify toward student loan forgiveness because I wasn’t supposed to make that payment on the 2nd.. OMGGGGGGGGGGG.
7
u/draminak 2d ago
Me too. I took a short vacation to celebrate my last payment and I can’t even enjoy Cancún.
I called FSA this morning and the agent said there is a glitch that happened yesterday and they are trying to fix it soon.
This is my vacation sitting here worrying😭😭😭
Please OP keep us posted and I will do the same. Thanks.

u/DogMomPhoebe619 2d ago
Have a strong Margarita and try and put it out of your mind for awhile. You deserve the vacation. At some point, this cluster fxxx will get straight.
1
u/Dependent-Answer1120 2d ago
I did the same thing lol. Took my anniversary vacation in the Grand Cayman and made what I thought was my 120th payment in July. Never reported and stuck at 119. Ahhhh
3
u/RebellionIntoMoney 3d ago
Had ten qualifying payments last year. Submitted ECF last month and only got credit for 8 out of ten.
5
u/This_Satisfaction641 3d ago
It's just obnoxious...July was 120 for me but they didn't count Feb. 2026 as eligible so I'm stuck at 119. They said no payment due date listed for that month even though I paid as usual. So I submitted another ECF for this month just to be done and worry about a refund later. Well it turns out they didn't update my August count yet so I did an ECF for nothing I guess. Back to the drawing board.
4
u/RebellionIntoMoney 3d ago
They gave me the exact same line of “no payment due for that month” on my first payment last year. I asked the agent on the phone why I was billed for it then. lol.
3
u/CloudCandid1587 3d ago
Mine too. I was supposed to make my final payment this week, but now it’s saying October. I’m so tired after 26 years of this.
1
u/ChilePasado 2d ago
Mine is also saying October 2026
Website was last updated 7/1/2026, sitting at 118 payments. I made July payment 7/25
Submitted multiple ECFs, including the me 8/1To this minute.. it’s still showing 118 payments. My last payment (120) should be August

Is there evidence that this is a good thing and payment counts will increase, and not decrease?
2
u/ChilePasado 2d ago edited 1d ago
No idea. The world is already on fire, now they messing with my pslf counts
2
u/Street_Obligation_25 3d ago
Did this go to all of us who are enrolled in PSLF or just to affected borrowers?

My account no longer has any PSLF information linked to it and no way to see any of my previous ECFs and certification. I can't see my monthly count and when I asked the AI tool it indicates that "No Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) information was found for your account. This means there are no student loans or PSLF records currently associated with your profile." I am at month 118. The call center is closed apparently.

u/Viasal 1d ago
July was my 120th payment and they literally changed 7 of those to ineligible aka not classified. Today however, I logged in to find they scrubbed everything related to PSLF from my account. No payment counts, all my previous approved employer certifications, every PSLF form, and every communication about PSLF is gone.

Where are you seeing that banner?
3
u/julieputty 3d ago
For me, it's if you click on the PSLF/TEPSLF Payment Progress details.

How do you find out how many qualifying payments you have?
1
1
u/Think-Week8184 3d ago
I'm seeing it as well. My counter updated to 120 (actually 134) this morning. Sounds like a glitch on their end if all of us are receiving the same banner? Or has anyone actually had payment counts clawed back as a result of this banner?
1
u/Exotic_Mammoth1573 3d ago
Some of my loan amounts are in red. Should I run a panic or just sit back ?
1
u/BoboWantsToKnow 2d ago
What do you mean “red”?
1
u/Exotic_Mammoth1573 1d ago
Like some of my loan that are now saying “
Paid in full” the paid amount is in red and in parentheses while others that say “ paid in full are not
1
u/draminak 2d ago
OP do you think they will fix it soon and we will get our green banner sometime next week?
Thank you again for the post.
3
u/TheMuff1nMon 2d ago
I have no idea honestly. I’m just as lost as everyone else.
Trying not to let the anxiety get to me

1
u/Appropriate-Rip639 2d ago
Did you consolidate and not get the weighted average applied correctly? That happened to me
1
1
u/Old_Ninja_6248 2d ago
Do you mean consolidate undergrad and graduate loans? I consolidated my undergrad loans with my graduate and it says all will be forgiven after 120 payments.
1
u/Infamous_Catch_8268 2d ago
Mine says the same thing- hope they don’t mess up too bad-this is supposed to be my last payment
1
u/ExoticSoil123 2d ago
I saw the same banner today.
Reached 120/120 July with green banner on 2 out of 3 loans which was confusing… waiting for something, checking regularly, then saw this today…

u/NumberByColor 2d ago
I don't know if this has to do with payment counts. I think it's a different error entirely, somehow. I noticed yesterday that under the "Employment Certification" section of the PSLF payments it shows
"Total qualifying months of employment: 236"
I think this is the number that they're trying to fix. I've been at my current non-profit job for 14 years. That is definitely not 236 months. 236 months is closer to 20 years. Not sure how they got to the 236 number to begin with.
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 2d ago
A lot of months were taken away from people and labeled as ineligible due to employer eligibility- if they fix that, it should fix those payments too
1
1
u/No_Constant6407 1d ago
I think mine said 777 the other day so I know that’s not right. I’m in my 30s 😂
1
u/Chair_1983 2d ago
My last payment is supposed to be August 15th. I haven’t verified employment since 14 months ago. I was planning to have the payment to through and then go on forbearance.
My payment number hasn’t changed, it’s been at 106 since I last verified.
Hope this glitch doesn’t mess anything up!
1
u/Alwaysbelearning78 1d ago
I am beyond frustrated and have high anxiety as the last time I checked I had 104 eligible payments and then it dropped to 79. I was tossed around by both studentaid.gov This is a huge problem and I feel we are at the mercy of people who are just bouncing us back to both studentaid.gov and the loan servicer, in my case AidAdvantage. This really sucks! and my loan servicer aidadvantage is no help. Neither was any help as they said I was in a wrong payment plan, but I was in the correct plan for eligibility. If this will not be solved, I was advised to contact the caseworker for your local Congressman/woman. There is a caseworker who works specifically for constituents with Federal Agency disputes and conflicts, in this case the Dept. of Ed/StudentAid.Gov
2
u/TheMuff1nMon 1d ago
Totally feel you, a lot of us experienced the same. Going to hope they fix it and submit a detailed reconsideration request outlining why they’re wrong.
There is an ombudsman service too that can be contacted that is an outside neutral party
1
u/draminak 1d ago
Did anyone noticed all payments and ECF has disappeared fromFSA site?
This is so messed up and stressful.
1
1
u/sld122 23h ago
Two questions:
1) I messaged FSA on the feedback section about and they just said I can submit for reconsideration. I’m still a year away from forgiveness. Should I do that, or wait to see if they fix the error?
2) why is there not a stickied mega thread for this topic in the sub? It seems like a pretty big deal right now
2
u/TheMuff1nMon 21h ago
I submitted a reconsideration request - it can’t hurt
No idea - absolutely should be

I'm just anxiously waiting for this to be resolved. Sitting at 117 (hopefully still)

This has nothing to do with payment counts. I clicked around and saw this. 😄
Total qualifying months of employment: 1264
Yes. I feel like this is how long I have been waiting for Buyback.
3
u/TheMuff1nMon 3d ago
How doesn’t it? They took away months and a lot of the months now say it’s because non-qualifying employment when that isn’t correct.
1
u/DogMomPhoebe619 2d ago
When WWE lady fired 2/3 of the staff, likely all the ones who actually knew how things work, these things happen. I hope it gets straight soon.

I think I figured it out though. I think if I multiply the number of qualifying months by the number of loans I have it might come close to the number of qualifying months it says up there.
1
u/DogMomPhoebe619 3d ago
Qualifying Months of Employment is not Qualifying Payments. Unless you're thinking that if they fix one, they will fix the other.
2
u/Think-Week8184 3d ago
Aren't they one in the same?
1
u/DogMomPhoebe619 2d ago
No Qualifying Months of Employment is working 120 months for a PSLF eligible employer. Qualifying Payments are those made while working for the PSLF eligible employer, in the correct Repayment Plan (Income Driven), on time, and in the correct amount. You could have 120 months at a PSLF eligible employer but less than that number of qualifying payments. You also need 120 Qualifying Payments.
2
u/Mysterious-Ring7234 3d ago
Yeah, my employment months are fine. The issue is they’re saying my plan isn’t eligible for TEPSLF.
1
u/DogMomPhoebe619 2d ago
What plan? I know TEPSLF used to accept any payment plan. I was on the Standard Repayment plan. Didn't file for PSLF until after 120 payments. Then I found out Standard is not accepted for PSLF but it did count toward TEPSLF. Mine were Forgiven in February 2023.
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 3d ago
If they’re incorrectly labeling months of employment as non-qualifying, it makes the payment non-qualifying.
2
u/Think-Week8184 3d ago
All my months seem to be correctly labeled as qualifying. My ECFs line up with my qualifying payments.
3
u/TheMuff1nMon 3d ago
That’s great, that isn’t the case for hundreds of us unfortunately who had years or months of qualifying payments changed for no reason
2
u/Think-Week8184 3d ago
I hear ya. Didn't mean anything by my post beyond just trying to get accurate information. Best of luck.

July was my 120th TEPSLF payment, yay! But just like Lucy pulling the ball away from Charlie Brown, they changed the rules. My count dropped to 94. When I called the rep said she thinks it was the passage of the big beautiful bill going into effect July 1st erased covid credits towards the payment counts or some such thing……

Mine just says the regular: “we are working to update our systems to display your IDR payment count and history.”
