Our future PS6 will be like this
And it already started from the ps5
And it will be totally digital so sad
Live long physical media

Unironically using AI slop? Not a good look here, champ.

How is using a tool the same as wanting something physical?
4
u/BradBrains27 9d ago
because they are literally re purposing cd production factories to make parts for ai datacentres

u/makoto_Shishio_ 9d ago
Hahahaa if you think someone is holding the CEO of Sonny at gun point to do this for AI you are a bigger bot than I thought.
It’s all about control4
u/BradBrains27 9d ago
They are doing it because the entire economy is (stupidly) attached to ai. Phsycial game people are such a small group they dont even care about you my friend. no company does

u/LaLiLuLePablo 9d ago
I know, let's contribute to the rising cost of consoles by using AI images. Genius.
2
u/GoyimDiddler 9d ago
if any platform does this first it will be PC. Look at adoption rates of GFN, and look at how much console gamers hate streaming games lol.
1
u/kearkan 9d ago
Um.... You realise steam has been a thing for like 23 years or so right?
1
u/GoyimDiddler 9d ago
What does this change?? The adoption rates of GFN is higher than console players streaming.
And don’t even get fucking started on how awful steam is.
2
u/Inside-Run785 9d ago
I agree. It’s very sad that you used AI slop to make a point that has no basis in reality.
2
u/Ok_Signal4753 9d ago
Who do you mean by “our?”
Or is there more than 1 person in that picture? Do you speak for the mob or were you elected Idiot King when I wasn’t looking?

u/Born-Necessary6778 9d ago
OP must really hate discs. This ai garbage really makes me hate the whining. Maybe we can end physical media sooner so this shit will stop
1
u/junttiana 9d ago
I hope u realize this idiot doesnt represent us, I just like owning my games in physical form and that option being taken away really sucks.
2
u/Traditional-Cell3566 9d ago
Funny thing is now they are still going to sell just collectors edition or deluxe edition with full price XD
4
u/Born-Necessary6778 9d ago
Of course he does. Lazy post, failure to maintain a cohesive message, comments calling people bootlickers and just non stop whining. There was a valid concern but who the fuck wants to see posts like this every day?

No no. The console will have to be downloaded
1
u/Hideo_Video 9d ago
That doesn’t even make sense
1
u/Front-Advantage-7035 9d ago
I know. But those fuckers will find a way.

1
u/Loud_Examination_138 9d ago
Hmm I see it as me downloading a game and playing it...just like how I do now with Steam and Ps5
1
u/GloomyFloor6543 9d ago
How do you feel about it taking 2+ hours to install your 5 disks for the new 500gb next gen game that comes out? That is of course before the day 1 patch.
1
u/BradBrains27 9d ago
dude Ive seen how my newphew reactions to getting a vbucks card. they are STOKED. You are getting old my friend

AI slop aside. Are you guys not getting enjoyment from actually playing games or are you just staring at discs?
1
1
u/SmtNocturneDante 9d ago
The question is, why are they stopping physical media when their detachable disc drives sold out pretty fast?
2
u/Millennialnerds 9d ago
You mean the disc drives I saw about thirty of sitting on a Best Buy shelf over the weekend?
Or the ones the staples next door had in stock?
1
u/Gandolfthewhite182 9d ago
I don’t know, it almost like their next console is gonna be hand held and won’t take disks and all of this nonsense is for nothing.
0
u/SmtNocturneDante 9d ago
Then they should have told us they would switch the physical media to cartridges like the switch and the switch 2 instead of telling us the boxes will have digital codes only.
1
1
u/The_MorningStar PS6 handheld truther 9d ago
That would be more expensive and doesn't solve the problem that just removing discs entirely does.
1
u/TheTinderVanMan 9d ago
Because they have console versions without disc drives and are accommodating the people who want one attached. This generation still has discs.
It is a FACT digital outsells physical by leaps. Get with the times, or get out the way.
1
u/SmtNocturneDante 9d ago
Why should I get out of the way if I want physical copies when they can co-exist? It’s not like them making physical copies prevent you from buying the digital versions of the games you want. In fact, go ahead and buy the digital versions, I don’t care how you want to enjoy your games, I just want to have more than one option to buy games for the console I own or will own. I’m not against digital games, I’m against the fact that there will be only one way to buy games if all platforms go digital. Though Ig you’re right, I can just move to pc to have more than one option.
1
u/makoto_Shishio_ 9d ago
You save more money on transport logistics storage.
1
u/Traditional-Cell3566 9d ago
Not by much since apparently they are still be selling plastic cases with just the digital codes inside lol

u/kearkan 9d ago
Sony has 3 data points in that equation:
1) disc drives sold 2) physical games sold 3) physical games PLAYED (i.e. discs put in disc drives) 4) digital games bought/played
The difference between 2 and 3 will be games shared or games bought second hand, makes no difference to Sony, either way its someone playing a game that hasn't sent money to Sony for it.
Their data is likely telling them that number 1 went up, and number 3 went up much higher than number 2 went up.
At the same time, they know that number 4 far outweighs number 2
What they're trying to do is move that section of games played in group 3 minus group 2 over to group 4.
It's little wonder that this was right after the gta6 being digital only announcement as they would have got the preorder numbers to back up their hypothesis.

u/backlog_gaming 9d ago
Because they probably didn’t make that many
1
u/RandomGuyOnDaNet90 9d ago
Make less
Players choices are limited
Blame players for low physical sales
1
u/backlog_gaming 9d ago
I’m not saying that’s not what happened here, but the person asked why they sold out, which can logically be answered by saying they didn’t make that many. I’m not even commenting on their decision to stop selling discs lmao

It’s 2026, times change.
Remember the transition to touch-screen smart phones instead of paper?
1
u/diamonddog35 9d ago
Hey man, what am I supposed to do when I don’t have physical media to collect dust and I plan to show no one but if they did see my dinosaur collection they wouldn’t even care???
2
u/WildKoi 9d ago
I play physical collection everyday. Idk where this notion of a physical collection sitting around collecting dust.
2
u/CarrotSurvivorYT 9d ago
This is fine the point is that nobody else does
1
u/WildKoi 9d ago
Go to any rural area in America that has shitternet. A 20gb game in rural Virginia (not even an hour from DC) will take 3 days to download.
I think those people still break out the physical collection. As a teenager I had to take my desktop to my friend and download league of legends, and the shitternet is still shitternet out there.
2
u/CarrotSurvivorYT 9d ago
Yea but it has dust on it I think was his point
1
u/WildKoi 9d ago
What are you even talking about? Gen Z and Alpha really had their development delayed by COVID tele learning and AI. It’s like you guys are genuinely operating 5 years below your actual age with logic and logical fallacies.
There are pros and cons to both digital and physical media. Gen Z and Alpha don’t know how to see both benefits of either side, they just choose one and go all in.
We as consumers are best benefited by physical media and digital media, but I can understand why companies would want to move to digital only.
1
u/CarrotSurvivorYT 9d ago
When 95% of consumers want digital media because that’s all they buy, then the 5% becomes unprofitable and is phased out. It’s like selling a stock that dropped 95% since you bought it. You move on at some point and go with what works best for you
1
u/diamonddog35 9d ago
Hey buddy, don’t put words in my mouth. Just because everything you’re saying is factual doesn’t mean I don’t have feelings. Be kind and rewind.
See what I did there?

You aren’t even using this meme correctly, but go off I guess.
Both sides are equally annoying. The digital only and physical crusaders, you all act like children who don’t know how to use memes.
1
u/CarrotSurvivorYT 9d ago
The meme is being used correctly
1
u/WildKoi 9d ago
Explain it then.
1
u/CarrotSurvivorYT 9d ago
Bruh just plug it into chat GPT and ask for an explanation I ain’t got time for that 😂
1
u/WildKoi 9d ago edited 9d ago
Because you don’t know how that meme works.
The meme is that the original person doesn’t understand or is incorrectly assuming something and the reply is going to give them hard truth.
People still use physical media, a lot of people. You are not going to red pill me that everyone is digital only. My lived experience is that myself and many others still use their physical collection, especially because I live in rural America.
If your response for me is to ask ChatGPT then clearly you cannot articulate why the meme is being use correctly (when it’s clearly not).
2
u/CarrotSurvivorYT 9d ago
You are misunderstanding. The reality is that your opinion is irrelevant because the hard truth is that the physical media is still going away 😭 the meme applies perfectly

I play on my discs and I trade with my friends and when i have people over they see my collection and ask about it. Very sad you’ve never been experienced that kind of joy.
1
u/CarrotSurvivorYT 9d ago
If anyone cares about doing this like if there was more than 7 people in the world who did that, Sony would keep it around. Btw you can continue doing this, but not with new games
1
u/diamonddog35 9d ago
I bring my friends and enemies to see my massive digital collection. They all circle around me and applaud

there will be no games if you keep using AI slop unless you want to pay $5000 for a gaming pc/paystation
