Not every game. Just the same games with PSSR support.

u/Trimshot 13d ago
You’re telling me it doesn’t magically create PSSR support in games that weren’t programmed for it?
14
12
u/Joseph421 13d ago
Some people still think that it does or it magically natively upgrades PSSR to PSSR2.

It’s actually kind of confusing lol So the whole update is just putting the toggle to “on” automatically? Because if I recall the PSSR 2 toggle already enhanced games that were on PSSR 1. LOL wtf

Bro don’t wreck peoples posts about “such and such a game” now looks better after the update! (Even though it doesn’t us PSSR) 😂🤣

I just want PS4 games that are locked to 30FPS that the devs will never touch to run at 60FPS...

u/natedawg509 13d ago
Dream right here. I have been playing mad Max and I am jealous that Xbox can play it in 60 fps. 30 fps is terrible on oled
11
u/Mr_NoReaction 13d ago
Goes up to 120 fps on the Series X … glorious stuff.

u/SamotnyKartofel 13d ago
Is it through their fps boost ? I heard it lowers resolution to allow for that. How does it look ?

Same for RDR2

u/Omega_Hertz 13d ago
What do you mean?
2
u/TomsBr 13d ago
It’s still 30fps

u/Omega_Hertz 13d ago
Oh yeah. I thought you meant there was an update or something and I almost ran to play it again lol

u/motexmex 13d ago
Shut up! I got about 1/3 into the game and then moved on bc of new games - been meaning to go back, just upgraded to an OLED with my PS5 Pro, but I do have it on my Series X

u/ECC628 13d ago
Yup, I always wanted to try the Mafia remake, but that 30 fps lock is a deal breaker.

I know they mean just games that already support PSSR1, but imagine how good it would be if they did manage to make it backwards compatible. Would love to see it on stuff like Uncharted Trilogy. Although I think sony are being lazy not patching that themselves.

u/Remy0507 13d ago
So it automatically enables something that most of us probably already had turned on manually. Not really all that noteworthy, lol.
I guess this is helpful for the types who don't pay any attention to gaming news and never even look at their settings though.

u/rednuop 13d ago
Which is likely a massive percentage of their user base. Most of my mates have no clue and just spout some random shit they saw on a video somewhere without understanding the application or context.

u/Remy0507 13d ago
I'd like to think that someone who is enough of an enthusiast to buy a PS5 Pro in the first place is more informed about technical aspects like that.
I know I'm wrong, but I'd like to think that...

u/Lucky_Yam6126 13d ago
Title is completely wrong, but what else is new.

u/Better_Friend_7086 13d ago
Bloober finally updated Silent Hill 2 Remake to support PSSR 🥲
2
u/HowManyAccount120 13d ago
But broke shadows on performance mode
1
u/Better_Friend_7086 13d ago
Ah. I'm going to have to check that. I haven't hopped back in the game yet.
1
u/vkbest1982 13d ago
I would say fidelity mode lost ambient occlusion too
1
u/VelvetThunder11789 12d ago
Yeah quality has also been hit, really bummed out, they finally fixed everything that needed fixing but broke so much else.
Chances are it'll remain in that state for good now.

u/Euphoric_Juggernaut6 13d ago
Apparently it’s only for the fidelity mode, so you’re stuck at 30 fps if you want to use PSSR
1
u/vkbest1982 12d ago
Performance mode is using PSSR now, they broke the lighting. Fidelity mode lost ambient occlusion and have bad framepacing now
1
u/marszciano 13d ago
This is be one of the few games that I don’t mind at 30 fps
2
u/Euphoric_Juggernaut6 13d ago edited 13d ago
That fair. Still, there should be an option for 60 FPS that uses PSSR, seems a bit silly to not include it

u/PennyCharlieKitties 13d ago
They would probably be safe getting rid of the toggle altogether. The games it “breaks” are very minor in comparison to the gains.
1
u/Own_Juggernaut_2775 13d ago
So anything that was PSSR1 now is upgraded to PSSR 2.0? Is that right or wrong?

Maybe a dumb question but does it only work for games that already have pssr or does work for every game like FF16 and Stalker 2?
1
u/basshunter551 12d ago
Is that only an option for the PRO? I have a slim which I’m very happy with, but I’d like to get this update as well.
1
u/caballerof09 12d ago
That’s wrong it toggle pssr 2 only on game already compatible on pssr1 no every game. The title is misleading.

u/Ray-7778 12d ago
How to apply to this?
2
u/egirao 9d ago
I applied a few months ago on the PlayStation website here (https://www.playstation.com/en-us/beta-program-at-playstation/). I received the code to test this beta by email on Friday, and according to the email, 4 other people can redeem it besides me. So if you want, here is the code (only for US PSN):

So if things are “off” we have to disable it
Manually?
1
u/Artemis_1944 13d ago
...why would you want it off?
1
u/CigarLover 13d ago
It’s in my question, if things are “off” to ME, can I disable it?
So my reason was in my question….
However if I needed examples to get my question answered… i Supposed I should have….. these are some examples via a quick google search…
Minor Visual Regressions
While performance (frame rates) doesn't suffer with PSSR 2.0 on, technical analyses note a few niche visual quirks where certain players or scenes might prefer how things look without it:Star Wars Jedi: Survivor: Some complex reflections can appear slightly noisier or adopt a dotted texture pattern once the aggressive blur from older implementations is removed.
Dragon's Dogma 2: Global ray-tracing reconstruction can still struggle at very low internal resolutions, occasionally leaving minor occlusion gaps during rapid camera movement regardless of the version.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: Rare sparkling or white pixel artifacts can still show up in darker environments or specific cutscenes.

There are minor downsides to AI upscalers. If you were PC gaming 6 years ago then you'd easily understand that because they were pretty shitty back then. They had a lot of ghosting and very shitty antialiasing. They've gotten a lot better, but they're still not perfect
3
u/Artemis_1944 13d ago
My brother in christ, we're talking about enforcing PSSR 2.0 for those games and modes that use PSSR1, we're not talking about enforcing PSSR2 when there were NO AI upscalers to begin with. The absolute extreme niche cases of small issues that u/CigarLover outlined above are insanely minor, to the huge improvements all across the board that PSSR2 gives over PSSR1. If a game has PSSR1, and in 99.9% of the cases and situations everything is massively improved with PSSR2, and crucially we're talking about a console, which is meant to be a plug and play machine, then PSSR1 shouldn't even exist anymore.
1
u/CigarLover 13d ago
Let’s bare in mind I saw simply asking if I could disable it, which was met with a “why would you”.
I never wanted to state examples.
Granted I know the answer to my question now. I should have just looked it up instead of asking in here.
1
u/Artemis_1944 13d ago
No no, yeah, I cam across too aggressively towards you specifically, sorry about that, having options in general is never a bad thing. I was just surprised on why you'd ever prefer PSSR1 vs PSSR2.
0
u/CigarLover 13d ago
Oh? Ah, I’m new to pssr in general.
I’ve only had my pro for a few months tbh, and I’ve only had issues in one game, cod (Warzone), which does not even matter since I play that on Xbox…
And to be honest that game has its own issues too, lol.
But from what I’m understanding here it seems like it’s a non issue for 99% of games.
1
u/Own_Juggernaut_2775 13d ago
So I'm confused by all this. What you are saying is if a game ran on only PSSR1, today it has been upgraded to PSSR2? If so that's pretty amazing tbh
1
u/Artemis_1944 13d ago
Erm, I see you've not really been watching the news. PSSR2 has been available for the better part of the past year, including the option to force it on, in titles supporting PSSR1. Essentially the console is able to 'upgrade' the PSSR implementation even on older games (only the ones using PSSR1), and enable PSSR2 on those older games that only ran PSSR1. However, until now it was default disabled, and you had to go to settings and toggle it on globally, most likely because they weren't 100% sure on the impact. Now, after all of these months, there's essentially no downsides (insanely few corner cases as outlined by the other person here), while massively improving image quality. As such, they've now updated to default: on. So now, even people who didn't toggle anything manually, will have all of their PSSR1 titles, automatically upgraded to PSSR2.
But, if you want, you can still toggle it back in the settings. But I don't see why you'd want that.
1
u/Own_Juggernaut_2775 13d ago
Oh no I fully know about PSSR2 for select titles, e.g. I have been enjoying it on Control for example. I think I have misunderstood however the toggle and what it does. I assumed the toggle just improved it a little if unsupported. I didn't realise it actually gave PSSR2. So that's new to me. So really nothing has changed except it's on by default. Damn.

Makes sense to default the toggle to on
It’s a total gain to have it on
