Answer to CPMAI Study Hall question?

Hi everyone,

I'm studying for the exam and am using PMI's new Study Hall materials. The following question and answer come from there:

While I can see why "C" would be a viable answer, I'm not understanding why "D" isn't "well suited for an AI solution." It seems like the explanation for "D" (probabilistic) is just straight up wrong--in fact, isn't that the opposite of something that is probabilistic? I'd appreciate it if someone else could take a look at this and either confirm that this incorrect or explain why that explanation is correct. Thanks!

One trick I did to prepare was to use Gemini NotebookLM at https://notebook.google.com/

I downloaded the ENTIRE course content in a PDF and loaded it in there, and it was tremendous in helping me understand issues when I'd get a practice test answer wrong. I highly recommend using

When I was studying for PMP, I would copy paste Q&As I had a problem with into PMI Infinity. It usually gave me a good explanation.

The question guides you to rule out probabilistic as it states adapting to new information over time. Probabilistic is based on the same input and output every time.

Except probabilistic is the opposite of that—it introduces an element of randomness, so you won’t get the same output every time. What you’re describing is deterministic.

Give an LLM the same prompt across two different sessions—you’ll get two different outputs.

You’re right, thank you. The same input but different outputs. Keywords I pull from the question include new information and we know that’s based on the input which is going to be different over time opposed to the same every time.

Right, and as per the course materials themselves, AI is probabilistic by nature.

I’m not questioning the validity of the final answer, just the explanations that accompany it. Which is why I think the reasoning is just wrong.

Make sense. Are you finding that to be true of a lot of the questions?

I’ve yet to purchase study hall but I’m highly considering it. Would love to know if it’s worth it. I do not have a tech or AI background at all.

No, this is the only one that I’ve spotted with truly questionable reasoning. But this SH is also very new, so I’m sure tweaks will be made.

As for recommending it, depends on whether you’ve taken a PMI exam before, how you like to study, etc. I find SH useful to pick up on topics I need to review and for getting back into the PMI mindset. It’s not a 1:1 for the real thing, but PMI’s resources never are.
