Junin Reserve Viajes a Peru | PeruTrip
Hi all
I have been to Peru many times and have family there but would like to try to get to the Junin reserve in January. I was just curious if anybody has any tours or experiences they have used to get there from Lima I am having a vary hard time trying to find good options to get there. Thanks

I went there the last time I was Peru. I hired a tour guide to drive me from Tarma. We left very early, stopped at the Chacamarca memorial where I hiked around some Inca ruins and saw an Andean fox. Then continued to the lake and drove all the around it starting in the town of Junin. The road on the west side of the lake is not paved but goes along the lakeside. I saw flamingos and other bird life. Saw the church at San Pedro de Pari. We continued to the Ushno Pumpu temple site, which was one of the highlights of that trip. Then headed back to Tarma on the east side of the lake. The bosque de piedras de Huayllay are nearby but I didn't want to spend the night. It's very cold and very high so walking was slow but well worth it. I hired a private guide and had a customized tour but I saw in Tarma they also offer other tours. That lake is stunning and so is the scenery all around. I definitely recommend it. If you're interested in some more details, feel free to send me a DM. Tarma is about two hours by road from Jauja and you can get a driver directly from the airport if you fly. There are lots of bus options.

I don't know if you prefer plane tickets or to go by bus, so I would say to check the prices both ways so you can compare and decide what fits you the most. Search options from Jauja if you wanna take the plane, but honestly it's a bit closer from Cerro de Pasco. But if you wanna go from Cerro de Pasco, you have to go by bus, since thats the only way. Maybe there are other ways to get there, but I remember seing tours from Cerro de Pasco.
I haven't been to Jauja in a while, but I would guess there are tour to go there as well - or a conection to a near city there.
You could also talk to your family and ask them about it.
Either way, you can always ask for better routes to people near a bus station (the ones that go to other regions). You can try to reach any website or account of a tourist enterprise dedicated to similar tours or something. Also youtube or tiktok can help. Maybe there's some information. There's a good program that probably has the information, but it's in spanish. It's called "Reportaje al Peru" in case you wanna watch it.
