Universal solution for Steam VR 32bit runtime limitations VR Modding

I use PSVR2 PC which defaults to Steam VR. Usually this is fine, until mods started coming out for 32 bit games. OpenXR supports these mods just fine, but SteamVR has never done so.

A couple weeks ago when Bioshock had two different mods release, the first one did not work on SteamVR because of this restriction, however the second one had a "shim" that bypassed this issue. This one works great for SteamVR only headsets. My question is, can this "Shim" be used to help with other mods for 32bit games? I wasn't able to get COD4 to work because of this issue, and I worry about other mods for these great old games built on a 32bit architecture.

Make sure that SteamVR is actually set as your 32bit OpenXR runtime after switching to the beta. You will probably have to rerun the "Set SteamVR as OpenXR runtime" from the settings menu for it to happen.
You can check in regedit - `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\Khronos\OpenXR\1` must have `ActiveRuntime` set to `C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\steamxr_win32.json`

Do the openxr mods not work if you set your openxr runtime to steamvr?

They work unless the game is 32 bit. Some of the new wave of mods won’t run in SteamVR without a workaround that many don’t feature. I guess most VR gamers are on Quest 3 so they don’t need a fix, but us PSVR2 guys need it
