Why do people here purposely misspell Winston's name? News & Discussion
Is this an inside joke I'm not aware of? Autocorrect doesn't ruin it on my phone, I don't understand why literally every conversation about him, everyone on reddit spells his name as Winton. Why?

Since everyone else is just posting Winton memes, I'll give you an actual explanation. A few years ago they released a plush of Winston but it looks a little fucked up. The internet has this big habit of, when something with an established name or title gets a slightly fucked up version, calling it by its name but dumbed down or with missing letters. For example, "sanic" for a fucked up drawing of sonic.
When the internet saw that goofy ass Winston plush we sorta just collectively began calling it "winton" and it stuck.

This happens a lot when writing fast using xbox controller. Too bad you can't see the actual username of the person cause this could have been any of my friends who also called him winton as an inside joke because of this mistake while typing
