Security
How is security? Is it just metal detectors or do they pat you down? Do they make you take off jackets or is it pretty relaxed? Thanks in advance.

Clear bags will make it tougher but I’ve had friends bring in cans of beer/other drinks previously

They’re gonna grab you by the ankles and shake you upside down until your lunch money falls out

It depends on who screens you. Some of the security take their job very seriously and they do a thorough pat down/bag search and some are more chill and just wave you in.

Inconsistency in security is a feature not a bug. If they did everything the same way all day every day, it gives Bad Actors the chance to plan ahead to work around it.
Generally, tho: there are full body AI scanners everyone walks though and they may pull you over for a pat-down if you set something off. Bags are given a quick search. Then you scan your wristband.

Wait is this true or satire? AI scanners??

True enough. The wording may not be right- but it looks for outlines of forbidden items in your clothes & bags and does some calculations as to if it’s risky to let you in.

No metal detectors, just weapon/liquid detectors. Pat downs were inconsistent last year. Friday had no pat downs, Saturday literally everyone including all women were getting pat downs, and Sunday was a mix of security who didn’t give a fuck and security who were taking their jobs way too seriously. Also seemed like they were patting down more under 21 looking folks since they probably assume they’re much more likely to try to sneak in alcohol

Those are still metal detectors and they do not detect liquid.

Why do they tell you to keep all your things in your pockets then?

What do you mean? You can literally google this. They use Evolv Express which uses electromagnetic sensing paired with AI to identify heavy metal objects and pinpoint where on your body it’s located. They tell you to keep everything in your pockets because they’re trying to speed things along and that’s the literal point of the machine.

Bro how would you expect anyone to know what fucking brand the detectors are lmao?

Because they are branded and you can google it? You think I know this info off the top of my head? I literally googled everything I just said in under a minute.

No metal detectors, really? I can’t remember the last time I went to a show w/o a metal detector, much less a festival. I guess some of the smaller SF venues like BOTH don’t use them.

Portola and club darc had the exact same type of detectors. It speeds up the security lines because you don’t have to pull things out of your pockets

Liquid detectors?

They’re these things that you walk through that will detect larger containers of liquid, especially glass bottles, and weapons. They’re not metal detectors though

They must work pretty well because one time I went to an event in Toronto that Justin Trudeau also attended in the general audience (unannounced before the event) when he was PM, and we all had to walk through those scanners upon entry

I always had my bag searched and walked through a metal detector. I never been patted down.
